Default Drakensang German sales

March 3rd, 2009, 02:41
http://www.gamestar.de/news/pc/rolle…rakensang.html

More than 100,000 units sold in Germany. This makes it quite a success. As a comparison, Far Cry 2 sold about 60,000 units. The WoW add-on Wrath of the Lich King more than 400,000.

Both Drakensang 2 and Demonicon (TDE action RPG) are planned for 2010.

In case you haven't seen it yet. Demonicon picture gallery. Some engine shots and some concept art. Some of the concept art is very good.

Reviews and word of mouth killed it. It quickly got a reputation as a quite uninspired game. 60k is still pretty good though.

The German market is also quite different from the North Americanmarket in some aspects. While the mainstream is similar, there are huge niches for strategy (Settlers, the Anno series), classic adventures and RPGs. The PC games market also is larger (percentage-wise), though it also appears to be shrinking (though it is hard to say, since online sales are often not included in the stats).

Anno 1404 PC is once again made by Related Designs. Ubi got a 30% share in the company when they bought Sunflowers. The console contracts went to Keen Games. They already did a good job with the last Anno conversion.

Never played an Anno game in my life. But anno 1404 looks very sweet. I like all the oriental bits.

Far Cry 2 also got a BIU Award this week. So 100k are confirmed. Probably plus online sales.
