The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf - Canceled, Witcher 2 Starts Production?
The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf - Canceled, Witcher 2 Starts Production?

It's clearly an issue of overstretch. They would have been fine if not trying to balance two AAA projects and 1 port. Maybe without the financial crisis that would've been manageable too, but alas.
And now for the sad news, Widescreen Games sent out a press release calling the project frozen.

There seems to be some hints Tom Ohle has been affected. If you read this, Tom, best of luck and thanks for all your help over the years.

I'm a little behind on Witcher news, so it's unclear to me what exactly is happening. As far as I can tell after reading the links, a port of the original game (to console) has been cancelled by the folks who were contracted to do it (because they stopped receiving payment). That source claimed that Rise of the White Wolf has also been cancelled. But that isn't confirmed (right?), and the ones claiming it have nothing to do with it (or are those the same thing?).
Widescreen is leaving the door open, but if that was the intent, Masclef really should have remained quiet and let the news surface some other way (and then comment after that). It's hard to be nice when the checks stop coming (been there many times, myself).

Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on. But it don't snow here. It stays pretty green. I'm going to make a lot of money, then I'm going to quit this crazy scene. -- [Joni Mitchell]

And yes, that's the official story (confirmed in a slightly different version by CDP:R), payments to Widescreen failed for 3 months and it pulled the plug. If my source is to be believed (and since he told me about RotWW's cancellation even before Polygamia mentioned it I'd think so), that's not really the limit of CDP:Red's problems, in people losing their jobs and in projects being cancelled.
They really should have official word on TW2 soon. I hope.
