Diablo for Playstation
July 7th, 2009, 23:25
I am trying to obtain a copy of Diablo for the psone. The prices on ebay are out of my price range. Is there anyone who has a copy that they are willing to sell at a $20 price range? Or perhaps trade? I have tons of PC rpg's as well as numerous ps2 rpg's. If someone has it and is willing send me a pm of a wishlist and I will tell you if I have the game or games you are looking for. Thanks.

I took a look on Goozex and there is a large waiting line with no supply. I think this is one of those rare things …

Yeah it's rare. But the prices on ebay are a bit inflated in my opinion. Most of the auctions ended at around 25 bucks. Most of the buy it nows dont get sold. I offered one person 25 . They had a buy it now of 40. They declined. Oh well. Its their game they can do what they want.
I understand you can install it on your psp. That is what I am looking to do with it. If anyone has done that and can tell me how to do it I would appreciate it.

To do that you need to crack the firmware, voiding warranty and violating Sony's EULA. In other words, it is an 'out of bounds' discussion not for the forums.

I didn't even know that a Diablo PS1 port existed. After looking into it, I'm not sure why anyone would want it that badly. It appears to be nearly identicle to the PC version, but without multiplayer.

Not certain how many players could play at once (e.g. if it was compatible with that multi-tap thingy) or if you could network it with another PSX.
The problem with playing on the same screen was that it wasn't split-screen, and it was all too easy to get one of you on the other side of a wall. Then you'd have to back track to get together again as otherwise you'd be stuck (a la the original Gauntlet games).

The game is ridiculously expensive (who knew?? geez) when I do find a copy, and I'm not paying $30+ for some used thing. I just seemingly tracked down a new one on amazon for 23 bucks out the door, but it was w/ a freshly launched seller who hasnt contacted me at all, and unfortunately has this up for sale. Not too encouraging.
At least Amazon will refund me if the deal goes south, that's why i took the chance in the first place, had some luck w/ the too-good-to-be-true prices before

*Edit* Surprisingly, you can still get the PC version brand new for $29.95 on Ebay.

Gothic Universe and King's Bounty vs Diablo on the PS1…. hmmm.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you might have made the better choice.

the fine details like text tend to get all blurry when I do that, I think my television is substandard

At one time I went to great lengths to find this title, mainly for the reason of being able to play it on my TV in the living room. I got it off eBay. I played it for a few minutes before putting it away. In every way it was inferior to the PC version so much that I found it unplayable.
YMMV, but I would not recommend going to a lot of trouble finding the PS version.
edit: I missed the post stating the OP bought some alternatives. Should you find yourself wanting Diablo again, keep my comments in mind. The PS version is just bad.

King's Bounty is really something special. I'm personally not a huge fan of turn-based strategy games, but KB blew me away. It might be the best game I played all last year.
There's not much to say about Gothic, other than it's one of the best RPGs to ever grace a PC.

As long as games are capable of widescreen resolution, they feel like playing on a traditional console, but with full 1080p resolution with all gee-whizz stuff like AA and QA.
I'm actually going to try that this weekend.
Imagine that you had a tiny box with a pricetag of around $100 that could be connected to the TV. The box would act as a satellite, that connects to your stationary PC through the network. The box do two things; stream the video output from the stationary, and capture (and send back) signals from bluetooth devices, such as gaming controllers, a keyboard and a mouse. Imagine you could even get an easy to control interface that can launch games and applications like videoplaying software and games.

I have seen D1 a few times on flea markets here … But I don't think you'd want to play a German-language version of it, no ?
