NCfOM wasn't a "good" movie, it was a *great* movie. It didn't miss anything, it wasn't a Western.

I'm glad to hear they translated the book well … can't wait to see it now …

Well it did win Best Picture, as well as the most awards overall in 2008. Not necessarily a guarantee of greatness, but I think it was definitely deserving in this case.

Yeah, glad you qualified that, because it is generally pretty meaningless … at best.

Agreed, and not to burst your bubble or anything - but I think the picture is vastly overrated - much as I think the Coen brothers are. They HAVE made some brilliant movies, in my opinion, but I tend to prefer their less celebrated works, like Miller's Crossing.

I'm not sure if the book is the same way, but if it is - then it must be pretentious, irrationally negative, have exceedingly unlikely characters, and just be really quite middling.

The book is bleak and negative, but it all works and is very well written, IMO.

Seems I notice my mistakes each time you quote me

Coen brothers, naturally

In this case, it's probably just me being difficult. The two big oscar winners just didn't do much for me - and I found others much more deserving of winning that Hollowood award.

Your opinion is not enough to burst someone's bubble . Just like me saying "well I hate to burst *your* bubble, but I think it was great". I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it as much as others did.

That year? Like what for example?

You obviously haven't tried bursting bubbles with your opinion, but believe me - it's exactly what my opinion tends to do more often than one would think. It's because some people have a very hard time accepting that opinions differ - despite the utterly basic and simplistic nature of that being a fact. You'd be surprised how many people forget that and get carried away when someone doesn't agree with them.

Anyway, it's great that you liked the film JDR and the reason for my bubble remark was to make that clear.

That year? Like what for example?
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and Gone Baby Gone - to name a couple.

Well I'm glad that you're so confident in the power of your opinion, as long as you're not getting opinion confused with fact.

I guess we agree then, because that was exactly the point of my comment. I was stressing that it was indeed just an opinion.

It's unfortunate that you would suspect me of confusing such things, but I guess it being the norm so often can have that side-effect.

My opinion has no more power than any other. If I have "confidence" in something, it's the irrational behaviour of human beings.

In my case, you really don't need to stress that.

Indeed, I think he's incredibly talented.

No problem, I'm sorry if there was a misunderstanding there. You see, to say that you're "bursting someone's bubble" usually implies that you are presenting facts. At least that is how that term is used over here.

I haven't seen either of those movies yet, but I already had it planned to watch TAoJJbtCRF as soon as I get the chance.

No worries, I'm just trying to make myself clear to the best of my ability

AFAIK to burst someone's bubble is akin to ruining their mood.

It's hardly uncommon to have one's mood ruined by someone putting something down that you either like or look forward to.

Like, for instance, I'm looking forward to the game Mortal Online - and if a beta tester spoke openly and plainly about his opinion that the game sucks, it might just result in my little Mortal Online bubble bursting, at least temporarily. Depending, of course, on the validity of his words or the history of his posts. You see?

It was basically meant to be a polite introduction to my negative opinion, and nothing more.

I just bid on a copy of 'Once Upon a Time in the West' on Ebay. After seeing a few short clips on YouTube, I really want to see the full movie.

Keep us updated how you liked the recommended movies.

For all Leone movies and also all Italo-westerns: Make sure to get an uncut versions. American distributors often considered them too long for their audience.

I haven't seen Miller's Crossing yet, I'll be sure to check it out when I get the chance.

The Big Lebowski is another favorite of mine by the Coen brothers.

The Big Lebowski is my favourite Coen Brothers movie.

Miller's Crossing is a calm, complicated gangster film playing in the 30s or so. Good stuff, but as usual for the Coens not really mainstream. It's sort of a mix between A Fistful of Dollars and Road to Perdition.

Big Lebowski is my second favorite

Miller's Crossing is brilliant - and Gabriel Byrne plays one of the most interesting characters in cinema history.
