I'm not sure if I want to find out how much further they took it when the rest of the show wasn't that appealing in the first place.

Yeah, she's annoying. She reminded me of a lot of people I knew in High School that were way too upfront about their faith to really be serious about it. I kept waiting for an episode where the guy she's into tries the whole 'You don't want to die a virgin, right?' move.

I didn't notice anything else that had overtones though.

Well, the last episode I watched was the one with the group prayer ending, so it's kind of stuck in my head. Maybe I'll give it another go later. But this sort of thing in (mostly US) series makes me wonder if the writers are Christian and wanted to insert some evangelization into their story. It turns me off.

Well Spielberg executive produced it, and he's definitely not into Christian evangelizing!

So a character on a TV show who is similar to actual people you know bothers you?

Yeah, I remember the movie with the mysterious mist (The… Mist? ) with the religious lunatic woman getting a following and stirring up some interesting madness. If it were like that, it'd be awesome.

When those actual people bother me, yeah. Pretty much.

I only saw the first episode of Falling Skies, but it was only so-so, so (heh) I didn't follow up on that. Might change my mind when people say it's getting better.

Since I saw that Star Trek: TNG is coming out on Blue Ray next year, with redone effects and in new splendor, I realized that TOS had already been remastered as well, which has prompted me to seriously consider watching all of Star Trek again, in chronological order. It's been so long since I watched anything (exluding Enterprise) that it'll quite literally be like new.

I might even go ahead and add the Animated Series to the mix, which I have never seen before.

I didn't see Torchwood mentioned in the thread anywhere - it certainly deserves a spot in a sci/fi tv list, particularly if one enjoys modern day Dr Who. (Not my kettle of fish - Tom Baker, Willy Hartnell and John Pertwee FTW!)

Whilst I've only seen the Children of the Earth serial in Torchwood, I quite enjoyed it.

I'm also quite surprised no-one has mentioned Sanctuary; Amanda Tapping's new show post SG1/SGA. If you've not seen it, think Jules Verne and combine it with Victorian and Gothic touches in a modern day setting.
This is into its fourth season now and has had some great moments scattered throughout. The Requiem episode from the first season especially was great and featured some of Tapping's best acting. Probably not for everyone, but I've had fun with it.

Actually, the latest T'Wood, Miracle Day is better than any of the earlier stuff.

Huh. Torchwood. Never heard of it, but I like the modern day Doctor Who very much.

A bit more elaboration if you please. I don't generally accept statements like this without a little more effort gone into the reasons why. Cheers.

I felt the same way with Jericho. The uncertainty of a nuclear war, and the show spends the majority of its time dealing with BS issues that we get shoveled on every other uninspired TV drama. And what was with the use of freshly cleaned & waxed vehicles just roaming around that town guzzling down valuable gas?

Been trying to get back to my Farscape DVD collection and that's pretty good sci-fi, if I do say so.

Agreed. And there were some really good moments in that show, too…

Well, it's a longer continuous story arc; it's partly set in the US; it has some new characters including a few Americans; the story is both convoluted and compelling; the production values are excellent and it explores some very intriguing themes!!

It's worth checking out for that reason alone.
