Borderlands Vids
September 5th, 2009, 20:11
For anyone interested in seeing Borderlands footage; this is a good thread to keep your eye on:
http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com…ad.php?t=72948
Most of them focus on action, however, I have seen some char development/RPG elements on a few (leaked) vids.

Thanks for the link. I can't wait to play this game with friends. It reminds me very much of HGL (which was a good game if the devs didn't try to overreach, sigh).
I do wish that the game offers a 3rd person view too.

OMG, I would give you a hug if I can!
So how is the beta? How much of the patch 2.0 is included?
TBH, I found the setting of HGL to be too good to waste. I even bought and read all 3 books… (which I never have done for any other game).
I really hope that the universe would be revived.

Well, they're taking baby steps, so patch 2 might take a while (they say it could be years to get in everything). As of now, they have doubled your char inventory, given you 10X more stash space (note: you can see the extra space, but not actually use it, yet), rebalanced the game a bit, changed up the vender offerings, etc. No major heavy hitting graphical changes yet. I have my fingers crossed that someone from the old Flagship team will leak the code to them, out of spite for Hanbitsoft, and shave eons off the team's development time. We'll have to wait and see.

Problem with code "leaking" is that apparently the korean company (forgot the name, since I don't have happy thoughts about them
) "owns" HGL now

Well, that's why I imagine that it would have to be leaked, as in "Wasn't any of my old team, better check your own security". We can but hope.

That ransack skill is an interesting take on the 'magic find' ability. You gotta kill something to power it up.

I now find myself slightly more interested in Brick (whom I've had zero interest in), and slightly less interested in Lilith (now that the mystery is gone); Roland and Mord still seem fairly solid contenders.

I really love the fact that there doesn't seem to be a strictly "healer" class. Everything's about offense. (Again this is something I love about HG:L… sigh…)
But I am betting that Combat Soldier will be the MOST wanted character in any online party games. I can't think of one party make up that won't benefit from having a Combat Soldier in the party.

Thanks for posting that. I really needed to see some game footage. I'm sort of excited about this game, the premise really appeals to me. But I think it will be too arcady for me. It reminds me of Hellgate London, which I thought was utter garbage (no offence to the fans here). I loved the premise of that game too. Got excited about the screenshots and whatnot then played the game and couldn't believe how bad it was. I hope this game isn't like that.
And whats up with the graphics, it looks like a cartoon? What does everyone think about that? Love it? Hate it? I think I hate it.
I hope my local video place gets it in so I can rent it. I wouldn't buy it based on what I've seen.

I'm not sure about the cell shading, yet. I played XIII and liked the graphics, but gave up on it for a totally different reason. The savegame sucked.
I do hate the bouncing hitpoints. I really hope this can be modded out of the game.

I have to admit that I've been losing interest in this game. The concept seemed really cool when it was first announced, but it's starting to look more like a multiplayer run&gun than the RPG hybrid it's supposed to be.

I think that's all it's going to be. Some mindless fun with hopefully some skills that have some bearing on what kind of character you want to play.
I don't mind these every now and then. Sorta like Serious Sam, but with some skills to invest in.

I like the art style. Before the change, it was extremely generic. At least now it's distinctive.
I'm looking to Borderlands to provide a little MP fun with my buddies, not a real RPG experience. I think the experience will be about 80% how a co-op FPS feels and about 20% RPG, with that element being the loot-whoring variety.
I don't expect the fun to last long -- a few weeks maybe -- because the RPG elements are so thin. That's okay. Like skavenhorde said, these games are fun every once in a while.

If someone has played Hellgate London, and you play this, can you tell me if it's similar? I'm interested but for some reason I get the feeling it will be a lot like HG. Which I loathed.
I'm tempted to preorder it because the webstore's giving away a free hat. But I really think I should rent it first.
