RPG's or strategy games in the next year?
October 14th, 2009, 21:32
Hey there,
I'm been reading around here and I'm trying to get an idea of the the rpg's and strategy games (or anything else, for that matter) that are going to be released in the next 9 months/1 year or so for the PC.
Dragon Age (d'uh
)
Risen
Alpha Protocol (I pre-ordered but not sure about a male only protagonist *sniff*)
King's Bounty: Armoured Princess (although I still can't find an exact release date)
Divinity 2
Mass Effects 2 (although the link to one of the trailers was just…hideous
)
DS/PSP game mentions are welcome also
I'm trying to get my "Wish List" up to date.
Thanks in advance,
Celeste
What else is there? Any good solid indie games to add to the list?

Majesty 2 just hit the shelves. Stardock's "Elemental" is slated for early next year. Eschalon 2 is still on track for Christmas, IIRC.

Disciples III(tb strat) is supposedly coming out in quarter 4 too, but there's not a sign of it anywhere yet.

Don't forget Venetica; it looks interesting as well.

Ahh those are some good suggestions! They all look interesting, particularly Venetica. Has anyone tried Majesty 2?

Drakensang: The River of Time is coming early next year.
Arcania: A Gothic Tale a bit later.

Elemental - War of Magic is the one I'm most looking for now (in the strategy department)

Thanks for the info! Btw, how hard/easy is King's Bounty? I have it but just haven't gotten to it yet. I love strategy games…I'm just not that great at them

I'm playing on normal and not struggling too much. There's an easy setting if you're looking to coast. If you've got KB, install it and play immediately if not sooner. It's a real gem and very addictive.

I actually held off playing it because I installed it and saw the graphics (they are like candy to me), I wanted to save it
However, since Armored Princess is due out, it seems safe enough to play. I just hate playing something I will love and then have nothing to follow up. Still waiting on that Planescape sequel…
Btw, when fighting the dragon in the Intro, he keeps taking out my weakest stack. Is that normal or do I need to practice some more? *snicker* It just feels a bit embarrassing to completely lose a stack in the intro

Don't worry about the training missions. The dragon is much stronger than the peasants and archers. If the dragon gets within range, they're toast. I can appreciate a "lose nobody" attitude (I'm pretty bad about it myself), but it simply doesn't apply to the intro.

Ok, good! Yes, I'm guilty of the "lose nobody" approach. Nobody dies on my watch…especially if I can reload

You'll want to max out your scouting skill very quickly, then. That will allow you to see the strength of the enemy so you can pick your battles and run screaming like a schoolgirl when the situation merits (and the game will do just that regularly).
You're in for a treat. Hope you weren't planning on sleeping this weekend.

You'll be making up the experience pretty quickly once you get out—but otoh, the troops in the intro won't come with you when you move on, so they're basically disposable anyway. It's whatever's fun for you. Enjoy the game. It's one of the best in recent memory, imho.

I've got Risen on back-order and I started King's Bounty. I just love it. Hopefully, I'm doing ok…level 4 and have 21,000 or so gold and not losing toooo many troops.
