Default Redcliff Question (might contain Spoilers)

December 6th, 2009, 09:16
Hello people…..

Right now i have arrived at Redliff, And I`ve walked to the mayor after talking to Bann Thegan. In the tavern i met some miitiamen complaining about not getting drinks from LLoyd the tavern owner and I get a quest about solving this problem.

Now to my question: When I pay the tavern owner 100 silbver so he serves them ale it get the quest solved icon but there is an ironic remark about if it is really a good idea for the militiamen to be drunk when fighting later on…..

Is this a problem ?? Whats the best way to solve this quest ??

Thanks in advance,
L.

Not sure what the best solution is, but I refused to allow them to continue drinking for that very reason. I've only played through there once, and I didn't find it overly challenging with lots of forces prepared to fight. Others should be able to add their experiences.

thanks for answering…. I have an additional Question for Redcliff…..:

I have defeated th walking corpses and now isolde comes rushing to Bann Teagan begging him to come with her and I am supposed to follow using the secret tunnel in the windmill….. I read somewhere that in order to have the good ending in redcliff i have to get to the circle tower inbetween to get some help…..

So I am asking: Do i have togo now (prior before entering the secret tunnel) or can i enter the tunnel and fetch the mages help later on… ???

Thanks in advance,.

Getting mage helps is much later. Entre the tunnell, explore, have the big meeting with Isolde (who I despised), Teagen, Connor, etc.

You then get a bunch of choices. One of those options means getting help from the mages. At that point you can choose the mage help and you get to leave to go get them.

This, of course, will only work if A) you have finished the circle of magi quest line and B) You had some mages saved and did not have the circle annulled.

Actually, you do not have to have finished the CoM quest line, as you can do it once you leave Redcliff. You complete it and then if you chose appropriately ask the mages for help.

Bah, I just let Jowan do his deed. I didn't like the whiny woman in the least, and would have beheaded her if I'd been given the chance.

…but you get lots of love points from Wynne, Alistair, and I think Leliana if you save everybody's heads, and do the 'good' deed…

Alistair does not appreciate it if you allow Isolde to sacrifice herself. It leads to an interesting dialouge with him though. I got Mage Tower help in my first game, and sacrificed Isolde in my second game. It's worth trying out different solutions to different things over different games, I'm still discovering new stuff, new consequences on my third playthrough. It's great that I can still find things unfolding in different and interesting ways.

I killed connor, matter of factly knocking out his mother first when she wouldnt pipe down and get out of the way. Everyone seemed to give me kudos at first, then back at the camp Alistair started giving me shit about it. I was able to steer the convo back around, and had him then apologizing to me.

I think that I got out of it w/ no love lost, I only gained. Morrigan loved it, of course!

Actually, I went through Redcliff and gained on everyone save Alistair, who was pretty much neutral between gains vs losses after getting back to camp. Morrigan was unhappy that I helped the people in the first place, but happy I let Jowan go.

Don't have Wynne yet, so no worries there. And Leliana is all but loving me now.

Then again, I took a break out in the Brecilian Forest. Work has really slowed down my ability to play this and other games.

The drinking question can be done several ways.

Bart and Corwin should just admit that when it gets down to it, I will have the final say.

Quite soundly, in fact this morning I had an especially rough time getting out of bed!

I used to go default "white knight, do gooder, yes ma'am/no ma'am, kumbaya-for-all". Then I played Jade Empire as black and evil as I possibly could, and that was an absolute blast! Til the repetitive combat got me down…

But yeah, I cant say that I'm playing Draconia black as pitch - but she's not particularly fond of humankind, she's a ruthless opportunist and pragmatist, she has about a 5 second fuse, and she doesnt take any shit from anyone… ever. One of Loghain's punks was mouthing off and thumping his chest on the steps of Orzammar for example. He found himself upside down and full of holes about a half minute later. There's no backing down.

I'm sorry, it's just so fun to play that way.

It's great to pick "snide comment (kill him)" and take his head off when the redcliffe doomsayer nut is ranting and raving, or Genitivi thinks he's gonna charge admission to "Ashes-R-Us" then catches my knife to the back of the skull. So yeah, instead of going thru a bunch of bullshit to be Mr Noble, taking unnecessary risks with a demon from the bowels of hell, delaying progress.. no. I prefer the direct approach - kill the demon and it's host. Problem solved. That's war for ya.

Make no mistake, we are at war, total war. Connor was just another casualty. Everyone seems to agree as well, now that the deed is done. Besides, how many Dalish children have been killed by humankind's acts of genocide? Sorry, I shed no tears for little Connor.

And yeah, it sure was kinda gratifying to (knock Isolde out) w/ the butt of my dagger. Pampered bitch wouldnt last 5 minutes in the Elven slums ='.'=

LOL you almost made me spewing morning cereal all over my keyboard. Even though i'm not yet finished my second round i already thinking about my third character - a oppressed and racially discriminated city elf gone vengeful, slapping and kicking human / dwarf / darkspawn left and right when got the chance.

Heh, I've tried playing evil..- I just can't do it.. Sure, I can be a little evil, but I failed miserably in Jade Empire, so I've just given up trying.

On the other hand, I am pragmatist. For instance, I wanted

It was fun "saving" Connor anyway.

Actually, some of the "evil' decisions in DA are fun, it's just the blasted companions that tend to be the problem…

Killing Connor gives a very funny face to Isolde , too bad there is no option to take out her too.
Redcliff soldiers fought while drunk the night before so not a big deal to do it again.

Regarding the Redcliffe militia and knights….

I must have fought that battle about 20 times, trying my damnest to make sure no one got killed, but to no avail. As soon as I reached the lower town an out of sight militia member was gutted - no chance to heal or intervene.

Supposedly you get a special reward from Teagan if no one gets killed.

Has anyone successfully done this? If so, how? I am playing on normal….

I managed to save everyone in Redcliffe on second playthrough. The scene in the morning after the battle has some changed lines, and Teagan did indeed give me an extra reward.

You just have to be proactive about engaging the monsters as they approach, use taunt a lot, heal villagers if they lose health, crowd control (can't emphasize enough how important CC is in this game, not just for this fight, although it's particularly helpful in this fight if you're aiming to save as many people as possible). You have to be prepared to use potions as well, you need to be able to keep using spells and abilities through the fight.

Yeah tried all of that and there was always one militia that was dead before I could do anything to save him. There must be something else, or I had bad luck on that save.

This was on normal. It's probably easier to save them on easy?

You can always switch to Easy and back again..

I'll admit something… I switched to Easy at the end of my battle with the mountain top dragon, which I took on on "normal"; for the simple reason that you don't take friendly fire in Easy, and I got tired of my people taking constant friendly fire because it was hard to position them with that stupid creature flying up and jumping around all over the place.

Suddenly; the battle became a WHOLE lot easier, and I didn't feel any satisfaction at the end.. - this game really is "too easy" on easy - there seems to be quite a big discrepancy between normal and easy - in my experience, anyway.
