Now, when you yourself encouraged watch users to do something much worse than what Konjad said, you thought it was obvious that you did not really mean it. Taking into consideration the "lulzy" nature of the codex, could it be possible that this was the intention of Konjads post also? Or is he an apostate, since he spoka out AGAINST the group?

Group mentality is a far bigger bully than insecurity, and you seem to be completely oblivious to it.
You fail at sarcasm, buddy.

h0e, are you serious? Did you *really* read that post as advocating the criminal acts described there?

'Cuz I sure as hell intended it as a warning *against* escalating this thing -- describing the real, serious damage that could happen if it was allowed to run completely out of control.

Thing is, I know something about how this shit works. It's very, very easy to mount a low-grade DOS attack on a site -- not bad enough to take it down, perhaps, but enough to significantly drive up the bandwidth costs and cause slowdowns. You don't even need a botnet or anything. It takes, like, one line of shell script and an anonymizer, plus access to a couple of Net access points. Hobby sites like these are totally defenseless against them, and the only reason they're around is that nobody's pissed off enough to do such stuff. And I was genuinely concerned that things were headed in that direction.

I mean yeah, I know that irony doesn't always go across well on the Netz, but that was hardly subtle enough to qualify as such. I thought the picture of two smoking ruins of websites at the end would be enough to get the message across. Guess not, though.

I agree, Anderson — and if you'll re-read that post carefully, you'll find that I stopped just short of calling him a toady. Instead, I said that his actions during this "raid" were the actions of a toady.

(I did call him, and a whole bunch of other people, all kinds of stuff earlier on. There may come a time when I'll apologize for that, but that time is not now.)

Edit: Whoa, dude -- now I'm able to reply to stuff even before it's posted. And I thought I was a fast typist *before*…

That's a good post, I enjoyed reading it. My first reaction was, "I like this guy." But then, I have to object to one part of it. The part where you call him a "toady."

I believe you are being unfair to Konjad, in making attributions about his personal character, based on a couple instances of behavior on an internet forum.

I'm not making excuses for him or defending him. I haven't known him the way other people have, because I'm new here. So maybe there's more I don't understand.

But there's a difference between objecting to a couple of pieces of behavior and making sweeping, derogatory generalizations about a person's character. I see the latter as unwarranted personal attack. Making an inference about someone's character based on two pieces of internet forum data is just not reliable or fair.

lol, sorry, my bad. Folks, the two posts above should be read in reversed order. I got the "edited" line on my post, and that bugs me for some reason, so I deleted and reposted in order to remove it. I must've done that just as PJ was replying.

The only reason I'm pointing this out is that you seem like a reasonable fellow who can hear it. I know character attacks are almost a way of life on internet forums. They are flying around like crazy in this thread. I was the recipient of one a week ago on another forum, and maybe it has sensitized me.

As for the distinction… well, personally, if I heard someone talking at length about my actions being "those of a toady," I'd hear them calling me a toady. I know there's a difference linguistically, but in terms of the message that is delivered, I'm not so sure.

Enough said by me on this subject, though. Let there be peace and good will between the codexians and the watchers forevermore.

Guys, please. Stop with the personal attacks. I'm pretty sure this site has some rules about that or something.

Konjad, you should report everyone to the moderators and have some people banned. This will not stand.

Well, this is my first post here and I have to thank the Codex for letting me know of this site.

I love the Codex. I actually like the personal attacks since as one poster in this thread has said: "There's a certain purity to it." After all, if anyone attacks another person's opinion, isn't that automatically a personal attack, since opinions are formed via personal bias/tastes? If you're so insecure that you can't take any personal insults or flame wars, then how can you be taken seriously?

Besides, the Let's Play section has introduced me to more games than I can remember. Since any game in the Codex is pretty much trash to one of the posters, I realize the weaknesses of my favorite games, but they also remind me why I like them anyway, despite of those flaws. This is better than any retarded forum where everyone just discusses pretty much a shared opinion.

Even GD, with all its racist and sexual posts, manages to be funny in a Maddox kind of way--when they're wrong, it's so wrong, but when they're right, they are so right. The Codex is just fun all the way, but you have to have the cojones to take the heat.

In fact, I dare you to post something simple in the Codex, if you're not a member: "I like X game because of A, B, C." The next replies would be dedicated to destroying A, B and C. But try as hard as you might deny it, the posts will have points; points which would not be raised in a forum that isn't a cesspool.

Konjad behaved in a 'normal' way before this codex invasion. Apparently he felt important because he already had 500 something posts on these forums and figured misbehaving here would make him even more important on the Codex forums too. His played innocence is a joke and so is he.

We don't have to moderate a lot normally so we've tried to contain this new invasion with low moderation and merging some thread.
Some from RPGCodex feel that they are allowed to say what they want like there are no limits to freedom of speech. This is however RPGWatch and not RPGCodex and we have limits and rules, we have up to now not applied them yet. I'm convinced low moderation in this case has been a mistake.

It's obvious you haven't looked around here much yet.

Also, it's possible to raise/make points without being a cesspool.

I have yet to see the same amount of opposition towards arguments and "ferocity" towards the defense of said opposing views on the Watch as in The Codex. Here it's mostly: "Good game. Oh you agree? Right on, lets make out". Call it trolling, or outright offensive behavior, but Codexians are usually more passionate about their games than anyone else.

And this thread is an example of the passion Codexians have for games? If so then please keep your passion at the Codex.

I got here kind of late, and see I've missed a great opportunity to flex my modding muscles. exercise some power over others you know. something I rarely get to do in real life what with being a girl and all. so how about it guys do I have your consent. do I have the approval of the group to get my moderating on

It probably was, and probably mostly mine because I'm usually the guy advocating low moderation while many others want to be more active.

Especially the guy in the mom-thread should have been instabanned.

I continue to find it supremely ironic that the one person who potentially could have been "hurt" by some of the more assholeish comments posted in both the mom thread and here in the Cesspool (cool name, btw; I like it) is one of the only members here who seems to possess a bit of internet backbone. He can clearly understand when he's being trolled and he responds with aplomb and adroit intarnet dexterity. I can see why you guys like him here.

However, I still maintain some of you really need to get over yourselves. If you don't understand why, read the above paragraph again.
