Bethesda forced Arkane to call its game Prey - PCGamer
Raphael Colantonio said nobody at Arkane wanted to use the title, but Bethesda gave it no choice—which is part of why he left.

It was a fairly widespread point of confusion, in fact, and not just among gamers but also at Arkane. In fact, studio founder Raphael Colantonio, who left Arkane (opens in new tab) in 2017, said in a recent Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences interview that Bethesda's insistence on using the name "was very, very hurtful," and ultimately helped convince him that it was time to go.

Fallout: Why Did The Bombs Drop to Start the Great War? - Dualshockers
The post-apocalyptic world of Fallout is a big and long-running one, which means that there’s tons of lore out there on its myriad factions, the creatures of the wasteland, and the many vaults that sheltered (and, uhh, experimented upon) people throughout the nuclear war that ravaged the world in 2077. But given that the Fallout games take place decades after those cataclysmic events, not an awful lot is known about the world before the bombs dropped, including why the bombs dropped to trigger the so-called Great War.

Knights of the Chalice 2 Class Updates and Module Ideas - Kickstarter
Hello everyone! The latest version of KotC 2 is version 1.45. It can be downloaded here for both Windows and macOS. It can also be downloaded on Steam and GOG.

If you haven't updated your game on Steam or GOG yet, and you'd like to keep your Character Roster file, please be sure to make a backup copy first as that file will be deleted when you update the game.

In the past month, I've been focusing on new feats for the Mage Knight and Paladin, bug fixes, AI improvements and speed improvements. The Half Giant also gained a new feat, Skirmisher, which cancels the size penalties of Half Giants.

In this update, I'm also writing a little bit about my ideas for the new modules (scroll down to read).

It's playing in Baghdad. That's a setting I'm really looking forward to. :)
Wonder if it will be Early middle ages as that setting was already done in Assassin Creed 2 and it's spin-offs. Guess we'll see but I'm not liking the rumor of going back to the old formula. Also sorry to thread readers not to much news to share these last two days.

I, on the other hand, dislike that setting - or at least I find it pretty uninteresting.

My preference would either be something sci-fi or give me a complete AC game set in the Aztec style.

From what I hear, they're going to scale back the RPG mechanics - where I would have wanted them to continue to evolve them.

Oh well, but it could still be ok I guess.

From what I read hints suggest it will be about Loki's reincarnation Basil from Assassin Creed Valhalla. It was supposed to be DLC but was turned into a smaller spin-off instead.

Also yes it's more in the style of older Assassin Creed games.

I'm not a fan of the old adventure/stealth formula but Ubisoft decided it's the future of the series once again. The fired president was the one who turned them into open world RPGs.

I personally think it's foolish decision as the newer RPG versions sold more.

I thought the next AC would be in Japan, but that must come later then.

I don't know much about the history of this country, except tiny bits between 1900 and how they led to the recent conflicts. This region is not easy to understand without going way back.

I've always wondered if AC managed to arouse the players' interest in the real history around the different settings.

Probably after this spin-off and before the rumored online Infinity project. After that seems the plan is to release smaller games that tell stories in different time periods for Infinity.

The continuity and plot of the games are a mess.

Forspoken's Potential Is Held Back By A Complete Lack Of Personality - TheGamer
Square Enix just released an extensive Forspoken gameplay trailer, and it looks pretty great. The combat has flashes of Devil May Cry and Nier Automata, while its open world traversal that prioritises parkour manages to feel like a strange mixture of Sunset Overdrive and Final Fantasy 15. The potential is there, but it’s sorely lacking a sense of personality to its setting and characters. Without this vital ingredient, I fear the entire experience will fall apart.
Dragon Quest & Comfort Food: Why “Traditional” Isn’t A Bad Word - ScreenRant
Dragon Quest has been around for over 35 years, and despite being trendsetting and innovative in its own right, critics and detractors often like to call it “traditional” - as if it were a pejorative term, something someone would say with a scrunched-up face with their nose pointed slightly up. Dragon Quest often gets called “traditional” as if it were a synonym for “boring” or “dull.” And while the long-running JRPG series certainly sticks to its big guns, it never feels weighed down by them. In fact, there’s something comforting about finding familiarity in Dragon Quest games.

The making of Wildermyth - RPS
Wildermyth is an inspired example of narrative design, with some nifty tactical combat to boot. But when Nate Austin, his wife Annie, and his brother Doug began developing the game around eight years ago, the weight of emphasis between storytelling and combat was very much the other way around.

"All three of us had been playing X-COM a lot," says Nate, who co-owns Worldwalker Games with Annie, and is the primary programmer on the project. "And we love the stories that are generated. But we wanted a lot more detail about the soldiers." Nate and Annie were both working for Riot Games at the time, while Doug was finishing college. But the three got together at thanksgiving one year and sketched out the rough idea of what would become Wildermyth. "Part of the inspiration was to just to take some of those ideas, and some improvements that we wanted to make, and put it into a fantasy setting, because we felt like that would fit better."
In RPGs, I prefer reading books to slaying dragons - PCGamer
I've always been convinced that the best part of game development must be getting to write RPG flavour text. It's where RPG scribes can get weird or scratch a particular writing itch without the pressure that comes from fitting it into the main story, even if most of it ends up just falling into the nebulous category of 'lore'.
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Cassia Orsellio: Gazing into the Warp
For many millennia, the Imperium has spread the Emperor's light and His will from Holy Terra to the darkest reaches of the galaxy. As fearless explorers, Rogue Traders are often the first to take the plunge into the uncharted depths of darkness. This is why at every Lord Captain's side, you will find a Navigator: a noble mutant who uses their third eye to steer the ship through the horrors of the warp.
Tales From The Borderlands won't be episodic, says Gearbox - RPS
Back in the mists of time of 2014, the original Tales From The Borderlands followed the classic Telltale episodic template, with a new chapter dropping every three or four months. Gearbox Software's upcoming New Tales From The Borderlands, however, is going to be doing things a bit differently. As our PAX West team found out over the weekend, NuTales will still be split up into an episodic-style chapter structure, according to director of production James Lopez, but you won't have to wait several months before you can play them altogether.
