Greedfall - Review @ Polygon
Polygon has reviewed Greedfall:
GreedFall feels like a BioWare game that time forgot
Play like it’s 2004
When I play GreedFall, it’s impossible not to notice the little imperfections.
One NPC leans against a wall, her eyes permanently closed and gently clipping through the rest of her face. Speaking with a merchant and passing an important object back and forth becomes surreal when there’s no actual object on screen, so it looks like we’re engaging in a low-budget theater production or a particularly potent game of make-believe.
I also don’t particularly care, because all of these little errors come with a heaping helping of quest design that seemed lost to time. This game has everything: dialogue trees with lots of branching options; old-school, Western RPG-style turn-based combat; flirting; and a long, complex narrative that doesn’t always work, but keeps on trying anyway. It’s a huge, sprawling, complicated mess, and that’s not the worst thing for this sort of game to be in 2019.
The game feels like an older, slightly more scatterbrained Obsidian or BioWare title that I’m just discovering now, warts and all. The individual missions are well-designed and offer meaty moral choices, even if the scaffolding holding them up is a little wobbly. I feel like I’m back in my teens, curled up with a controller and a classic RPG, and I’m willing to forgive quite a lot of messiness in order to continue enjoying that pleasant sense of time travel.

Greedfall - Camera Mod and Reviews
Greedfall is a must for RPG fans, I wouldn’t say it does anything new in the genre but it definitely is a good one. The selling points for me are it’s details, the choices and obviously hats. I think a few things could use little tweaks, perhaps the combat could be a little different at first to help newbies settle in a bit easier and perhaps the constant running back and fourth does get a bit tedious but it is a good time.
Greedfall is yet another ambitious, sprawling, unique and, admittedly, janky game from Spiders. But I’ll take akward animation and gummy fights any day if it means getting genuinely exciting, fresh titles like this one. Greedfall is easily Spiders best title so far, and it was a joy to play thanks to fantastic writing, an interesting world to explore and some great gameplay mechanics.
Whilst other developers seem to have forgotten the intoxicating hook of exploring a great fantasy world and interacting with it in a myriad of ways, I’m glad to see Spiders keeping the torch burning.
Greedfall Camera Mod Main Features
Increases the multiplier of FOV slider from 1.5 to 2.0.
Removes camera bob.
Removes camera shake in combat (Thank you Heas!)
Disables the auto center on controller. (Thank you Heas!)
Normalizes most FOV changes, like when unsheathing sword, fights etc.

Greedfall - Review @ TechRaptor
TechRaptor has reviewed Greedfall:
GreedFall Review – The Heart of Ambition
GreedFall, the latest from French developer Spiders, is the type of game you can’t help but root for. Known for creating unique RPG games for a small budget, their reputation as an almost BioWare-esque studio has grown large enough to cement a loyal fanbase. Yet, for all of this, Spiders still struggles to break through the glass ceiling with a massive hit. Ultimately, their games, either restrained by budget or by ambition, tend to fall short of the goals they set for themselves.
It is not hard to be somewhat trepidatious considering Spiders reputation. A mid-budget RPG that hopes to emulate one of the most successful companies in the field is an easy sell, but rarely are they anywhere close to the quality of other companies. Yet, something is different with GreedFall, for unlike the monotonous slog of The Technomancer, or the broken mechanics of Bound by Flame, GreedFall seems to have overcome some of Spiders own deficiencies. While it doesn’t quite break that glass ceiling, it is certainly making a few cracks this time around.
GreedFall has problems across the board. It fails to create a cohesive or interesting main plot, struggles visually, and relies heavily on stereotypes and poor narrative cheats at times that hamper any choices and consequences that do work. Yet, it is a game that is uniquely charming in all its faults, has refined its mechanics, and has found a way to be appealing through the passion that is clearly poured into the screen. It is not an instant classic, but GreedFall will be a cult favorite among RPG fanatics, and really shows the growth of Spiders as they continue to inch closer to prominence in the big-budget RPG market.

Greedfall - Review @ Geek
Geek.com likes Greedfall, too:
Review: ‘Greedfall’ Is a Western RPG With Style
It’s been a while since I’ve played a Western RPG I could sink my teeth into. This is mostly due to the fact that Bioware doesn’t release these types of games with the frequency they once did. Thankfully, developer Spiders is here with an RPG that hearkens back to the glory days of Bioware with Greedfall. While it lacks the polish and AAA presentation of high-profile Western RPGs, Greedfall is an excellent game that fans of the genre will love.
I can safely say Greedfall caught me completely by surprise. While it contained a fair bit of bugs and glitches, they weren’t enough to ruin my overall enjoyment. The combat system is robust and allows players a high degree of strategic planning. Each mission helps bring the world to life and players can complete them in a variety of ways. Greedfall is everything you could want from a Western RPG. It is an entertaining game that serves as a great base for future installments to build upon.

Greedfall review - technical shortcomings are overcome by an abundance of heart
GreedFall has more than its fair share of faults, and its curious mix of the sweet and the sour is far from a roleplaying revelation. But the elements that matter have been imbued with such love and care - so much so that I quickly forgave this ambitious RPG its shortcomings.

The Spiders RPG launches next month.
Spiders' newest RPG Greedfall releases on September 10, and I for one am pretty exciting about it. Inspired by 17th century colonization, the game is by no means based on true stories (it has monsters and stuff), but its strange amalgam of fantasy and history is fascinating. The video above shows the most substantial chunk of gameplay footage we've seen yet, and I've got my fingers crossed that Spiders nails it with this one. It looks great.

Greedfall - Companions Trailer
A companions trailer for Greedfall has become available.
GreedFall, the upcoming RPG from Spiders Studio, will send you on a voyage to uncharted lands when it releases September 10 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. On the island of Teer Fradee, you’ll forge your own destiny - but you will not be alone. In the latest Companions Trailer, Spiders and Focus Home Interactive emphasize the importance of your companions, your relationships with them, and the stories they bring.
In GreedFall, you are a diplomat above all else. What defines your character is how you deal with the unique situations your position puts you in, and the company you choose to keep. Consider your choices well, as each of the companions you encounter on your journey belongs to one of the many factions or guilds, with all the prejudices and ambitions this may bring.
Beyond the influence of their faction’s goals, each companion has their own personal quests. Ignore them for too long and they may decide to leave you. Help them, and you could have an ally – or lover – for life. Your companions will notice what you say and do, so consider their reactions before committing to a decision.
Think carefully when picking which two companions to bring with you, as each have unique skills to offer. If you suspect a challenging fight ahead, consider bringing along Coin Guard mercenary Kurt, who can be kitted out as a tough front-line warrior. Outside of combat, be cautious when entering diplomacy with a faction one of your companions are antagonistic with. Your choices will shape the world, along with the lives of those in it.

Greedfall - Filling the Bioware Void
The Escapist has interviewed Jehanne Rousseau, the CEO of Spiders:
Spiders Wants GreedFall to Fill the Void Left by BioWare
Like many RPG fans, Spiders CEO Jehanne Rousseau loves BioWare’s classic Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Knights of the Old Republic games but was disappointed by the developer’s recent work. She still hopes the company can return to its roots, but for now her team is working to make the games they want to play.
“We are creating them now not to replace [BioWare] but to fill the void in some ways,” Rousseau said. “We can’t really compare. We don’t have the same size teams and budget, but we really try to continue creating games we love. We hope that players will like it and that players that enjoyed playing story-driven RPGs like the games from BioWare will enjoy playing GreedFall.”
Set to release on Sept. 10, GreedFall is set in a fantasy world inspired by the 17th century colonization of the Americas by European powers. Rousseau said she chose the setting to emphasize exploration and politics.

Greedfall - Game will be 30-45 hours
GamePressure reports on an Escapist interview about Greedfall where the game length was discovered and the number of endings.
There is no shortage of RPG fans in the world. Not everyone, however, is a fan of very long games. Some people may be discouraged by the fact that they will have to spend more than 100 hours on a title before they see the ending. Fortunately for such people, GreedFall will not be this type of production. As Jehanne Rousseau, president of Spiders studio, said in her interview for The Escapist magazine, it will take about 30 hours to complete the upcoming work of the Parisian team, if someone wants to finish only the main storyline, or 45 hours if the player tries to complete all the side tasks.

Creating your character and picking your starting skills, attributes, and talents is just the beginning when it comes to carving your own path on Teer Fradee, whether you choose to specialize or be a jack-of-all-trades. In addition, the deep crafting system allows you to customize equipment, tailoring their look and stats to suit your playstyle.

Your party members will follow you into battle, but keep in mind that they are people with their own hopes, goals and motives. Greedfall - DevBlog - The Birth of A New Universe
A new devblog for Greedfall looks at the makings of a new universe.
We are delighted to kick off a series of articles unveiling more details about the making of GreedFall today – a one-of-a-kind RPG by Spiders, coming to Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 10.
We’re taking a look at this new world, specially created for GreedFall, with Jehanne Rousseau, Lead Writer and CEO at Spiders, as well as Cyril Tahmassebi, Artistic Director, and Camille Lallement, Lead Cinematic Artist. How GreedFall came to life
The need to confront new challenges in a distinct universe impassioned the team, inspiring Spiders to dream up a unique concept and naturally leading to the creation of GreedFall. CEO and Lead Writer Jehanne Rousseau set out to create a more fantasy-based universe, totally distinct fromthe arid Dunes of Mars.
For GreedFall, Spiders delved into vast, open-air environments, forests, and lush greenery while avoiding the cliches of the classic medieval fantasy setting. The team also wished to highlight exploration even more than in previous titles. Taking inspiration from the 17th century, particularly baroque artwork, seemed fitting as an answer to both criteria.
The natural next step was to seek new reference materials to gain inspiration from; from artwork to literature. The team quickly built a library of material and references that resonated with the project, from which to stimulate imagination and creativity. This is really how the world of GreedFall came to life.Spider’s inspirations for GreedFall
Countless books, movies and tv shows were studied by the whole team to create this new universe! Camille Lallement, Lead Cinematic Artist, also claims the team wanted to explore current issues, as well as some older ones that we may otherwise like to collectively forget. Key inspirations include the Miyazaki classic Princess Mononoke (1997). The animated film was one of the first references when designing the natives living on the Island of Teer Fradee. It also pushed the team to start considering ecology as one of the native’s greatest motives.
Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001) was also a great inspiration for the general aesthetic, particularly the rich variety of outfits and equipment. Of course, modern shows such as Game of Thrones also provided some inspiration regarding political intrigue and complex diplomacy, even if that specific setting is very different in tone and environment.
Swashbuckling adventures were a fantastic source of inspiration in terms of narrative for Jehanne, especially those written by Dumas (The Three Musketeers, Twenty Years After, The Vicomte de Bragelotte). Historical events were also instrumental in building GreedFall’s world and narrative - Jehanne even read a book written under Louis XIV’s reign, about the contemporary Navy in order to find specific terms and understand how specific aspects of navigation evolved over time.
Artistic Director Cyril Tahmassebi lists sources of inspiration dating back to the 17th century art. Rembrandt, Jan Steen, Frans Hals, Vermeer and even the Chiaroscuro technique of contrasting light and darkness were vital references when creating GreedFall’s visuals. The architecture, costumes, ornaments, lighting, objects, textures, atmosphere from this time all inspired the art team at Spiders.
Stay tuned for more insights about the development of GreedFall in our next articles! GreedFall releases on September 10 on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.http://greedfall.com/

Greedfall - Hands-off Demo Impressions
VG24/7 reports on what they saw of Greedfall from a hands-off demo in Paris last week and also spoke with Spiders CEO and co-founder Jehanne Rousseau.
Much like Fallout 4, party members will like or dislike various actions or acts of omission by your character. Greedfall takes this a bit further; if you piss off one of your companions for too long, say by bashing the natives in front of Siora, she’ll leave your party forever and become your enemy.
Greedfall begins with a lengthy prologue, sort of like a massive tutorial island. There are all sorts of quests to be getting on with and for the completionists out there, you’ll need to do every quest available first time around. You see, Greedfall isn’t a true open-world game – once you leave the Serene, you can never go back.

Greedfall - Interview @Gamingbolt
Gamingbolt interviewed the Lead Writer of Greedfall, Jehanne Rousseau.
With a game that is as focused on character development and narrative as this one is, writing obviously has to be top notched? How are you making sure that Greedfall doesn’t disappoint in that area?
It’s a lot of trying and re-trying. We are working with some play-test groups that come and try the game. Of course, Focus Home Interactive, our publisher is helping us at this point. Working with some of the teams on their side to get a lot of different feedback on different skills: on the fighting, balance, but also on the different consequences. So, it’s something we can’t handle alone and we need some help. We need the publisher and the help of the players.
It’s been stated that characters in the game will react to you differently based on whether you’re more prone to using combat or stealth. Does that mean combat is always avoidable, if players should want to choose stealth instead? Are there boss fights in the game that can be avoided this way?
It’s not always stealth. We try to have different solutions to solve the quest. Stealth can be an option in one case, and combat can also be another option. Sometimes you can also bribe [your enemies], or you can have people change their point of view. Or in some case you can craft some items to exchange. It’s not always stealth or combat. It’s not a stealth game, there are plenty of different solutions. We’re really letting the player decide how to handle the situations. Some combat [situations] won’t be avoidable, but we really want some quests to be solved in different ways. You’ll have to fight at some moments in the story, but it’s not always the case. It’s not a bad solution to choose something else.

Greedfall - E3 Video
A new video from E3 for Greedfall.
[E3 2018] GreedFall paints the genesis of the game’s story in E3 Trailer GreedFall is the latest RPG from Spiders, currently in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Set in a 17th century setting embedded in magic, Greedfall has a unique visual identity inspired by European Baroque art, depicting grandiose sceneries in muted warm colors and dark undertones. This E3 Trailer reveals the origins of GreedFall’s story, as settlers, mercenaries and treasure hunters, fleeing a continent plagued by pollution and an incurable disease, set foot on a remote island seeping with magic, rumored to be filled with riches and lost secrets.
A grand journey filled with mystery follows, as you find yourself in the middle of ever-increasing tensions between the invading settlers and the locals, who are protected by manifestations of the island’s earthly magic in the form of supernatural beings. With a strong focus on its core RPG identity, GreedFall follows Spiders' experience in building intricate worlds filled with mysteries to discover, weaving deep character interactions, and offering players freedom to achieve quests and objectives in many different ways – through combat, as well as diplomacy, deception or stealth.

Greedfall - New Details
OnlySP reports that the Greedfall devs learned from the failures of Technomancer:
GreedFall Combat Learning From the Failures of The Technomancer
Jehanne Rousseau, the creative director of Spiders, the studio behind The Technomancer, has revealed new details on the developer’s upcoming project GreedFall.
In a recent interview with IGN, Rosseau mentions The Technomancer‘s flawed combat system, which the developer is looking to rectify in its next title, with the director going in-depth about the streamlining and changes the studio has been working on:
“For GreedFall we decided to create a story mode, where combat will be easier, and we removed the percentage system for a gauge system instead. Critical actions can now be used as soon as the gauge is filled up, and can be applied to any type of combat action. It can be used to transform a simple healing spell into a powerful group spell for example, or of course to give the deathblow to an enemy. These changes in the combat make it more tactical, and we hope it will improve our players’s experience.”
GreedFall, then, does not appear to be a sidewards transition, but a huge step forward for the developer. In terms of scope, the title is looking to improve upon The Technomancer, in both the scale of the world and the way in which players traverse it, with Spiders “[deciding] to greatly improve the size of the game to give more importance to the exploration.”

Greedfall - Interview @ Gamereactor
Gamereactor talked to Project manager Marie-Cécile Jacq and gameplay manager Sébastien Di Ruzza about their next RPG, Greedfall.
One of the most distinctive aspects of Greedfall is the choice of the 17th century, or the Baroque era, as an inspiration for its design and setting.
"It was a period with interesting weapons, it was the beginning of fire weapons so we created a lot of factions based on religion, science, alchemy, explosions, and we still have other faction with navigation and stuff like that", says Di Ruzza. "And we're brought to a new land, to discover a new civilisation connected with nature and we have to investigate a disease that ravages the continent we came from. We're a mercant nation and it seems that in this new land that has been discovered by navigators there is a possibility to find a cure."
This motivation, that you're trying to find a cure to a disease, is something that ultimately does something to move the game away from a theme of colonialism. You're not necessarily driven by greed (in spite of the title). When the game was first shown, many thought it would have more of colonialist theme to it.
"People are not just settling on this island to steal gold from people who live there", explains Jacq. "They had to find a solution, because the old continent is dying. So there's all that constant clock ticking for the player, will you be able to find the cure, will you be able to save the old continent."

Greedfall - Interview @ Game Watcher
Game Watcher has interviewed Spider devs about Greedfall:
Greedfall: An Interview With Spiders' Marie-Cécile Jacq & Sébastien Di Ruzza [E3 2017]
GameWatcher: So take us into the world of Greedfall. What is going on here?
Marie-Cecile Jacq: It’s a fictional 17th Century. We were inspired by art, music and Flemish-style painting, as well as the fact that it was a time of discovery and scientific growth, although alchemy was also still a practice. You’ve got this mainland continent of three nations which represent three of the factions. One is heavy into magic, religion, and faith. Another is all about science and alchemy. The last is a merchant nation that was once an economic power, but is starting to weaken. There’s also a faction of sailors that control most of the transportation across seas and a mercenary faction that is happy to jump in and capitalize when conflict is about. In all of this, there is an outbreak of a weird disease affecting the entire mainland. It isn’t long after that the sailors discover this uncharted island that is entirely free from the disease. It leads every faction to rush there and attempt to claim land and gain resources. Every faction has a big reason to be there. Meanwhile there’s native people on the island that are immune to the disease, take part in an old and nature-driven magic, and are heavily defiant against all of these sudden invaders.
GameWatcher: And who are you in all of this? What role does the player play?
Jacq: You are a prince or princess of the merchant nation and faction and you’ve come to the nation with a dual purpose. Your cousin has established a merchant town and needs help as the governor of the merchant presence on the island. Moreover, your family has suffered from the disease. Your mother is afflicted and you leave home with just as much in not more stakes in the cure than anyone. The disease kills almost everyone, so you’re assuredly leaving her to her death, knowing something must be done.
Sébastien Di Ruzza: It’s not just you and the merchants either. There’s going to companions and party members in the game that come from each of the factions, including the natives. What you do for their factions will gain you influence and trust with them, while doing things for other factions or acting against that faction could anger them. You could just as well bring the companion of a scientist to a place controlled by the religious nation and gain some notoriety for having that companion in your company when dealing with religious characters. There’s a lot of flexibility and depending on how you handle it, you could become great friends with a companion or lose them outright as an available ally.

Greedfall - E3 2017: First Look
Dread Central checked out Spider's open world RPG Greedfall at the E3:
E3 2017: First Look At GreedFall Promises a New World of Conflict
I always love getting to cover games made by Spiders. Unfailingly janky and riddled with bugs, I still can’t help but spend days trapped in their narrative webs. I’ve come to describe them as the Cannon Films of massive open-world companion based RPGs: full of heart, a fraction of the budget. The scale of what they manage to create has always been the biggest selling point. Even the relatively constrained Of Orcs and Men painted a picture of a much larger and more interesting world (still crossing my fingers for a sequel). They’ve gotten progressively more bold and expansive with every game, with The Technomancer my 2016 guilty pleasure. If you need a better sense of how I feel, go ahead and read the last paragraph of that review.
Spiders is looking to once again up the ante with GreedFall, a new IP set amidst the struggle of a colonial expansion. Familiarize yourself with the trailer, because it has guns and and monsters and is awesome:loading...
GreedFall is an ambitious concept, made even more intriguing by the unique setting. On the border between magic and science, the era is one where schools of alchemy and medicine exist side by side. Industry and firearms are quickly pushing back the wilds and superstition, but very real magical monsters lurk just beyond the treeline. With the expansive world, unrestricted exploration, and multiple factions, the people at Spiders promise an experience that can keep you entertained for weeks.

Greedfall - More Details
Rock, Paper, Shotgun has some more information on Greedfall:
Greedfall is Spiders’ colonial fantasy RPG
Spiders, the team behind Mars: War Logs, Bound by Flame and The Technomancer, are working on a new RPG that goes by the name Greedfall. The title may be a callback of sorts to Silverfall, an action-RPG that many of the studio’s initial developers worked on at Monte Cristo shortly before forming their new studio. Like that earlier title, Greedfall has a technology vs nature vibe, depicting an island paradise that has been discovered by colonial forces from several distinct nations. You play as a neutral, able to ally yourself with either the nature-loving natives, or any of the nations seeking to exploit the island’s resources. It’s all make-believe, with magic and monsters and a fictional map, but the art style and military tech is 17th century European in style.

Greedfall - Announced
AttackoftheFanboy reports that Spiders have announced their new RPG Greedfall:
Spiders Games presenting new RPG Greedfall at a Press Event
Spiders Games, best known for their RPGs with amazing ideas but questionable execution, has announced that they will be announcing a brand new RPG called Greedfall via an announcement event. Got to love the gaming industry. By the look of their tweet, it looks very pirate like. At least judging from the included picture. Which is very good news because the world could always use more pirate games. Especially after Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag reminded the world that good pirate games besides Tales of Monkey Island and Sid Meier’s: Pirates, do exist. Then immediately gamers all remembered that we want more of them.
The Spiders Games fanblog shows some concept art.
