Heart Forth, Alicia - Update #43
Exciting progress continues on Heart Forth, Alicia.
Our efforts for the past month have been evenly distributed across all fronts of development. In terms of new areas and game sections, we've been getting to the point where it's hard to avoid spoilers while showing or talking about this stuff. In broad strokes, we're focusing on the Four Beacon quest, where you hunt across the world to activate them, on the cusp of crucial events.
This section of development entails the creation of a few dungeon areas, certain boss battles, lots of puzzles that combine different mechanics and completely new enemy sets for each dungeon. It also requires the central game world to be mostly developed so that everything is traversable and interconnected, so it’s a pretty big milestone that requires months of work on all fronts.
It’s really exciting to be working on this part of the game: after we're finished laying down the main path, we'll be able to come back and flesh out Blivek City, after which there'll be only some smaller areas, details and secrets to add before we can enter the final stages of development. Lots of work ahead, but we're getting there!

Heart Forth, Alicia - Update #40
In Heart Forth, Alicia's latest update, Alonso Martin discusses finishing the game poster (and how to get your copy), as well as how to get the game on a different console, and his work on the Talebook.
We've been slowly but steadily working on the Talebook. Several landscape illustrations, character portraits and paintings that will populate almost every page of this book have been finished already, but a lot has to be adapted and re-written from the original story bible, so there's still a big amount of content to develop.
We're planning on shipping the Talebook until after the game's been released, most likely bundled with the Physical Game. There are two big reasons. Number one, the Talebook's contents will completely spoil the game story for anyone who hasn't played through it, so that's something we want to avoid. Secondly, this will also give us enough time to shape it the way we want the book to be. Look forward to it!

Heart Forth, Alicia - Concert & OST Update
Alonso Martin's latest post-funding update for Heart Forth, Alicia has news about a new live concert from the composer of the games soundtrack. Here are the details.

This is a quick update to let those of you who live in or near Austin that our talented composer Jonathan Geer will be performing live musical selections from Heart Forth, Alicia's Soundtrack with his Waterloo Trio Ensemble!
Apart from being a trio of very well-dressed gentlemen, these guys are seasoned professionals, so don't miss out on the chance to enjoy their performances if you're around the area.

Heart Forth, Alicia - New Development Update

Dev Update 4: A great new change, new features & more shoutouts
Hey guys! Tuning in to give you an update as to how things are moving.
The last few weeks have been pretty exciting! Everyone on the team has been working hard to move the game forward. Just recently I shared a small video through our Twitter account to show you a Vine of HFA's first test on the Wii U Devkit. If you haven’t seen it yet, maybe you’ll be as happy as we are to see the game running on console! :)
We’re also simultaneously developing the Sony ports, if you're wondering, and though there’s still a huge amount of work to do to get the game fully running on these consoles, this is most definitely a great start.
During this past couple of weeks I’ve also added a few more interesting modifications to the game. Some of them include redesigning the Earth Spell to be more controllable by the player. The Earth spell used to have a random factor with which 2-3 enemies were targeted for damage, and any other enemies were left untouched. Now, the spell works more like Castlevania’s axe ability, and boulders are thrown in the direction you’re facing. Any enemies found in the path of the boulders are automatically damaged, giving you a wider scope and control over which enemies or obstacles can be targeted.
Another cool change was to add multiple item-drops from enemies. Before, if an enemy was able to drop 3 different items, only one item was selected via a dice-roll, and then that item’s drop-rate was calculated. Now, all possible items can be dropped at once if the drop rates of each one is met, and they're dropped in a nice bag that you can pick up & open after an enemy is killed.
One of the latest features added (and one of the last) are… ladders! My goodness, I have no idea of why it took me so many years to get around to adding ladders, but they are absolutely amazing and life-affirming. Using ladders just opens up so many possibilities for level design, and it clears away some difficult situations when designing terrain. Next time I see a real-life ladder, I won’t look at it with the same eyes.

Heart Forth, Alicia - Kickstarter Funded
The kickstarter game Heart Forth, Alicia was funded, and managed to make $232,365 of the games $60,000 goal. The developer has more information in the latest update.
Dev Update 1: Funded & PayPal Update
The campaign is finally over and we’re funded! Thanks so much to all of you for supporting us throughout this amazing month. We can’t wait to get ourselves back to development so we can have some more game stuff to show off as soon as possible.
Before we can get to that, though, we have a lot of work to do in regards to making sure that all of our post-campaign stuff is in order.
PayPal and Console Add-ons
A lot of you have asked us about being able to add one or two $5 console ports to your pledge. We can't do that anymore here on Kickstarter, but we've set up a page for this purpose via Paypal.
This post-Kickstarter add-on will be open until Saturday, May 31st!
You'll be asked for your Kickstarter Transaction ID, which you will find in your confirmation email from Amazon Payments. The email's title should read something like “Your Payment to Alonso Martin has succeeded”.
We will use that Transaction ID to link your original Kickstarter pledge with your Paypal operation. Make sure that you input the correct Transaction ID number. Also, remember that you can only pledge for one key for each console (up to three $5 add-ons are valid when your Kickstarter + Paypal pledges are combined).

Heart Forth, Alicia - New Livestream

We’ve been working since the start of the campaign to open up a PayPal option for those of you that are unable to go through Amazon Payments, and today we’re happy to announce that PayPal is officially integrated into Heart Forth, Alicia’s Kickstarter campaign!
To back Heart Forth, Alicia using Paypal, just follow this link:In order to keep PayPal pledges manageable, we’ve simplified our tier structure to include only our most popular and significant tiers. Doing this will make handling a large number of pledges independent of Kickstarter’s infrastructure much more feasible, as well as allow us to smoothly transition into a preorder system once the campaign in complete. However, backer-exclusive rewards are only available during the campaign. Once our Kickstarter campaign concludes, these rewards will become permanently unavailable, so get in while you still can!
New 'Ancient Áumma' Tier—New Challenge Dungeon Mob Bosses with Tracks from Manami Matsumae!
Challenge Dungeons are designed to test players’ skills, reflexes and endurance in a single run, with defeat sending them back to the beginning of the dungeon. While working out how to bring Manami's amazing work into the game, we saw a parallel between these dungeons and the games that she’s previously worked on, which sparked an awesome idea: how cool would it be if, in addition to having Manami write each dungeon’s theme, we could make them reminiscent of the classics she’s worked on in the past? What if the dungeons ended with a mob boss instead of a treasure box? What if we could give this mob boss its own Manami theme song, too?!
Mob bosses, contrary to normal bosses, respawn some time after having been killed. They also drop some of the most interesting and powerful loot and accessories in the game, including items needed for sidequests and other cool things. In the case of the Challenge Dungeons, you’ll have the opportunity to run through the dungeon multiple times to get new loot from the mob boss.
We've still got a lot of things to plan regarding these dungeons, but we wanted to give you the opportunity to participate in designing these three special mob bosses and have decided to open up a new tier that would allow you to design a challenge dungeon’s mob boss! This tier will essentially be the same as our current ultimate backer tier, except the three people who back at this tier will get to position their mob boss as the final hurdle of our Challenge Dungeons, complete with their own theme from Matsumae-san!

She has been the composer for Mega Man, Mighty No. 9, Shovel Knight, and a slew of other awesome games since the late ‘80s (U.N. Squadron!!!), and now she'll be composing music for Heart Forth, Alicia! We couldn’t be happier to have this opportunity to work with someone who’s lent her talents to some of the best and most recognizable music in gaming history. Introducing...

Heart Forth, Alicia - Kickstarter Updates# 7 & 8
Alonso Martin has posted two more updates for Heart Forth, Alicia in the last two days. The first update shares more stretch goals to enhance the funded game.
Update 7: New Stretch Goals, Foe Demiurge Tier, and Add-ons!
$150,000 - New Secret Zone!
At $150,000, we’ll have the funding to develop a new zone for the game. Included in this new area will be new monsters, rooms, secrets and loot, and hidden somewhere in its core will be a new spell designed just for this stretch goal! We’ll make it one of the most powerful spells in the game, and you’ll be able to get it through a secret sidequest. Additionally, the entrance to this area will be carefully concealed somewhere in the game’s world, and you’ll have to search every nook and cranny available to find it!
$165,000 - PS Vita Port!
We’ve been working all week on our ability to get ports to every platform we can, and today we can happily announce that we’re able to bring Heart Forth, Alicia to the Playstation Vita! We think that having HFA there will make some of you very happy, and we can’t wait to see us pass the stretch goal and make it a reality!
For all of you non-Sony fans, just because we have the Vita listed here doesn’t mean that other ports are ruled out. We’re still working with Microsoft (through [email protected]) and Nintendo to see what we can do about getting the game on their system, and should have more news soon. We have already secured a company that is capable of porting HFA to those platforms, but getting authorisation from Nintendo or Microsoft is something that takes time and it's something over which we have no control.

Heart Forth, Alicia - Update#6, New Goals
Alonso Martin has posted the sixth update for his funded kickstarter Heart Forth, Alicia with an update on the games stretch goals.
Out with the old and in with the new (stretch goals)!Wow! Congratulations everyone. Thanks to all of you, Heart Forth, Alicia is coming to PS4! We’ll have more details and get the PS4 version of the game into our tiers as we continue our talks with Sony throughout the week.
New Stretch Goals
We’ve torn past the PS4 port and well on our way to trouncing the Mac/Linux goal, so it’s about time we talk about our next round of stretch goals!
One benefit of the attention that we’ve received from the campaign (thanks to all of your amazing support!) is that it’s opened up new doors to us in regards to people that we can work with, and something pretty amazing has happened: our Fifth Stretch Goal involves a legendary composer whose career stretches back to the NES era, and whose music you’ve heard in a lot of classics that you probably still love to this day! Of course, this superstar composer has also worked on many modern, recognizable, and incredibly successful projects, so even those of you whose gaming careers don’t date back to the 8-bit days will have something to love. Once we reach $135,000, we’ll reveal who this mysterious composer is (we’re bound by blood not to reveal it yet), and what that person will be doing for the game!That isn’t the end of it, though! We’re working on our Sixth Stretch Goal already, and it’s still something completely unbelievable to us! Working with this composer has led us to the incredible opportunity of working with other fantastically talented composers on a Remix Album of the game’s OST. Those composers include but are not limited to:

Heart Forth, Alicia - Update#5, Mac and Linux

Mac &Linux Stretch Goals, New Tiers , Wii U and Vita news
Two stretch goals conquered, and 150% funded less than 3 days in! It’s nothing short of amazing. To celebrate this awesome milestone, we have some equally awesome news for everyone:
Mac and Linux ports will happen at $120,000
We held off on talking about these earlier because we still hadn’t secured the resources and people we’ll need to make this possible. Working out the PS4 port opened the doors for moving onto other platforms, and Mac and Linux ports are the most immediate step in that direction. This means that dear Alicia will be coming to a Mac or Linux near you!
Wii U and Vita
Vita and Wii U ports are platforms that we’re absolutely interested in porting to, and we’re working out ways to make it happen. We’re not yet able to say for sure we’ll be able to port the game to those platforms since we still need to secure a deal with Sony and Nintendo. We’re looking into getting those. But believe us when we say we’re looking forward to these ports as much as you are. It would be a dream come true to have our game running on those platforms!
New Tiers and Add-ons
Something else that we’ve received a lot of questions about is the opening of new tiers, both for the high-level design pledges and a PS4-only tier at the ground floor. We’re working on the logistics and exact details of both, and they should definitely be implemented sometime next week. On the same note, we’re also going to implement add-ons at the same time for people that just want the Talebook or poster without the full expense of their associated tiers and rewards within.
We’ll have more stretch goals if we get there, but hopefully these are enough to start everyone’s weekend off the right way! Have a good one!

Heart Forth, Alicia - Updates #1-3. Funded
Heart Forth, Alicia has been funded in three days, and managed to make $72,477 of $60,000 goal. The developer Alonso Martin has also released three new updates.
Update #1 - Stretch Goals and Chucklefish Games
What an amazing first day! Never in my life did I imagine we'd receive the generous support and excitement we've gotten from you guys. I honestly launched the campaign expecting we'd have a very rough time even getting past the first half of the goal, and I'm completely bewildered by how things have played out—completely beyond-words grateful to you.
Update #2 - Funded! Stretch goals on their way!
My. Goodness. I cannot believe what has just happened! You guys have funded us in such a short amount of time! We’re funded! I’m in a ridiculous mix of agitation, incredulity and absolute gratitude. Thanks so much to everyone who helped us through our amazing first days! Again, never in our wildest dreams did we expect anything close to the kind of support that we’ve received, but now that we have it, we’ll do everything we can to live up to your expectations!We were also Greenlit yesterday—we expected that to take months to get through. Unbelievable! But thanks again to everyone who managed to make it over to the page and cast their vote before we got the go-ahead! I hope you’re not tired already of hearing us say this, but we can’t stop saying thank you for helping us solidify the future of this project! I personally completely indebted to you.
Update #3 - Stretch Goals Are Here!
Apologies for the delay while we worked out the final kinks, but it’s finally begun! Let’s go through our first set of stretch goals one by one:
$75,000 - New Game+Our first stretch goal is for that good old fashioned RPG staple, New Game+. Heart Forth, Alicia's New Game+ mode will put players in a drastically more difficult world where many of the games variables will be altered to make the playthrough more challenging, including stronger enemies, more lethal environments, unique New Game+ foes, and plenty of other hidden surprises. You won’t be helpless, though. Players will start with all of the money from their previous run, three New Game+ exclusive accessories, increased stats compared to a normal playthrough, and more. We might even toss in some super special secrets only available to players on their New Game+ run :)
$90,000 - Challenge DungeonsWe’ll carefully hide three secret challenge dungeons in different spots of the game world, each one creating a unique sequence of challenging rooms filled with swarms of enemies for Alicia to conquer on her way downward (or upward!) to retrieve a shiny new reward. Think “Deep Dungeon” from Final Fantasy Tactics or “Savage Labyrinth” from Wind Waker and you’re on the right track. Of course, we’re always open to backer input, so if you have an idea you think would work great in a challenge dungeon, let us know!
$110,000 - The PS4 PortThe big one. We know that tons of you have been dying for any news on ports, so we’re incredibly excited to confirm that Heart Forth, Alicia is coming to the PS4! We’re working on implementing the PS4 port into our tiers, so keep an eye out for more news soon.If we manage to break through this set of stretch goals, we’ll definitely do our best to be much more punctual with our next set. What will they be? You’ll have to wait and see :)

Heart Forth, Alicia - A New Metroidvania RPG
I found another kickstarter game last night I think a few of you might be interested in called Heart Forth, Alicia. The developer Alonso Martin is asking for $60,000.
