U6 Project Update

Four new towns added to world...

The Ultima 6 Project team has been busy expanding the world of Britannia, and adding new content to the game in preparation for the upcoming Milestone 5 (M5) release. The plans are to have most of the entire overworld more or less complete, with most of it playable and accessible. Another four towns have been added since the Milestone 4 (M4) release, complete with townspeople, for players to explore and interact with. New Magincia, Jhelom, Moonglow, and Skara Brae are now in the game, as is the keep of Nicodemus the Mage. Trinsic is nearly complete, and the Lycaeum is currently in work. In the following paragraphs, you'll find some previews of Moonglow, Nicodemus' really cool keep, and Skara Brae.

The world builders have been doing a fantastic job – the towns are very richly detailed, they look great, and are really fun to explore. The 1st screen shot below is of Moonglow, and shows the Avatar's Party entering the town from the docks. The 2nd screen shot is of Penumbra's work room, and if you've played the original Ultima 6 game, you'll find that it is very much in the spirit of the original (with of course, greatly improved graphics).

If you really want to be wowed, you'll want to be sure to visit Nicodemus' cool keep. He has a fabulous collection of artifacts, a study to die for (several of the team members have decided they want one just like it), & even a grand piano in his bedroom. Nicodemus is a mage & an astronomer, so of course, he has his very own telescope just outside his keep (where he observes the planets and stars at night). But he discourages visitors, so you'll have to figure out how to get past his defenses.

This is a screenshot of his workroom, & in the one below you can see him studying the heavens at his telescope.

When you visit Skara Brae, you'll find a new winery where all the townsfolk like to gather at night. Quenton the ghost is now in the game, and you'll see some very careful detailing throughout the town which adds great realism to the game. The screen shot below shows the ferry pier, along with some newly caught fish. The ferry isn't there yet, but that should be in for M5 so you'll be able to go over and visit with the rather addled mage, Horance, who will sell some great offensive spells. You can see Horance's newly redone tower in the background.

Be sure to visit the Project Britannia website (http://www.projectbritannia.com/), where you can download the latest milestone release to play (currently M4), look at additional recently posted screenshots from the game, and check out the forums for the development diary which one of our world builders, Nicodemus, has started to post. Nicodemus is responsible for many of the new towns and for all the rich details in Nicodemus' Keep, and he has been doing a great job for the team. Also check out the Ultima 6 Project main site (http://www.u6project.com/) for a profile of the team's portrait artist, Alex Gonzales. There are some impressive items to look at, plus some downloadable wallpaper art.

If you like what you see, and would like to contribute to this great game (and help us get it out faster), the team is looking for a dungeon-builder and a 3D modeler. We are also looking for writers, 2D artists (portraits/textures, etc.) and music creators. And, of course, we're always looking for play-testers. Contact any of the team members on the forums if you'd like to join the team.

About The U6 Project
