Gauntlet - Review Roundup

by Couchpotato, 2014-09-28 12:27:32

I found a new batch of reviews this week for the just released Gauntlet HD Remake. The journalist seem to love it, but I found the game to be average at best.

Hardcoregamer - 4.5/5

Gauntlet delivers a fun and challenging dungeon crawling experience that manages to avoid repetitiveness. Although it has some minor launch bugs to work through, they are easily overlooked. The best way to think of the Gauntlet series before this reboot was as an old muscle car. It provided great years with its powerful, uncomplicated nature, but it was little more than a rusty clunker. Much like a jalopy can become a classic, Arrrowhead has beautifully restored Gauntlet to its former glory and made it something you’ll be proud to take a spin in. Ride on, Gauntlet fans.

Invision Community - 4/5

Gauntlet presents players with the ultimate tease; playing alone in a team of four players. Sure, going solo and trying to beat out your teammates will have you getting your hands on the best loot and the most gold, but in a game which has you against waves and waves of enemies, co-operation does not sound so bad does it? One could also just play alone and save himself the hassle of deciding whether to be a good sport or a greedy bastard. Ultimately, like any other game, making it to the end is its real task and accompanied or alone, it will still feel as satisfying as ever.

Brilliantly Epic - No Score

Overall I’d say Gauntlet is a great game that’s simple enough for anyone to jump into and enjoy for several hours even on their own. If you are going to get it on your own I think you should personally try and wait until a deal as £15 although reasonable, you might not get the most out of if your sat their by yourself, however if you do have 1 or 2 mates who are willing to buy it as well (just show them this article it’ll convince them, I swear!) then the asking price is totally justified and definitely worth it.

Mousenjoypad  -  80/100

Overall, even though Gauntlet’s score defaults to 80, I’d boost the numbers closer to 90 if you enjoy games such as this. It’s a badass COOP hack ‘n’ slash that will surely gain a cult following as time goes by, especially since Arrowhead promised updates and additional content in the upcoming weeks and months. A hearty recommendation from me.
