Alganon - Interview @ MMORPG.com

by Myrthos, 21:39

CEO David Allen talks about  Alganon and the company's philosophy to MMORPG.com.

MMORPG.com: Explain the business philosophy behind Alganon, creating an MMO is a huge undertaking and you are seeing some great success in development.

David Allen: When I proposed this MMOG to my business partner back in January of 2006, I told him we would have to build all of our own tech from scratch if we wanted to do it right, and we would have to minimize overhead and ensure none of the traditional corporate garbage waste ever took place. This allowed us to control our design and development, bring our team together, grow at a proper pace, and maximize every investment penny. As far as I know QOL is the only privately financed MMOG company in North America that's majority owned by the founders, and owns all of its core technology (Client, Server, Tools, Installer, Patcher, Billing). We are very proud of Alganon and the great company that has been built in creating the game.

Alganon - Release Date Set

by Myrthos, 23:42

The releasedate of Alganon has been set for the October 31.

Chandler, AZ - (PRWEB) September 14th, 2009 - Quest Online announces official launch date for the upcoming MMO Alganon

Arizona online entertainment developer Quest Online LLC announces the release date of October 31st, 2009 for its upcoming Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) title Alganon (http://www.alganon.com), a major fantasy-based gaming experience in the ever-expanding online marketplace.  Players will be able to pre-order Alganon before the end of September 2009 through the main website and other yet unannounced digital distribution networks, giving access to the exclusive beta and bonus features which will not be available after launch.

Quest Online (QOL) has been working on Alganon for nearly four years now, and has been in private beta since July.

The vision of Alganon is finally coming to life as we approach our release date, said David Allen, co-founder and President of QOL. Players have been looking for a quality alternative MMORPG for years now and were finally in a position to provide it. Beyond the core game, we have also built a unique social and data infrastructure with the MyAlganon system, a feature thats integrated directly into the game. David continued, in addition, the new study system will allow players to both plan and grow their characters over a period of years, both online and offline. We have built our own client, server, world building, support tools, installer, patching, and billing systems. We are truly a self-sufficient company and I couldnt be more proud of what weve accomplished.

QOL is a privately financed and founder majority controlled company, operating a true virtual environment where their team of more than 40 work together to build the Alganon project and all its support systems remotely.

QOL is not hosting a public beta for Alganon, instead all beta participants will be either via pre-sales or exclusive beta-key giveaways. David continues, we want to focus on the feedback of people who actually have a passion for the game. Public betas often cause this feedback to be drowned out by participants who have no vested interest.

Alganon - Behind the Scenes

by Myrthos, 00:04

MMORPG takes a look behind the scenes of Alganon while visiting Quest Online.

QOL is independently funded through private investors who, according to Co-Founder David Allen, have all bought into their vision and give him and his team the latitude to follow their vision.

The biggest surprise though is that the company is entirely remote. When they brought me down, they didn't tell me this, Allen wanted to see my reaction. I thought we were making a pit stop at his house to grab a cup of coffee, but no, that was the headquarters.

In an upstairs office, he has a PC, complete with three giant monitors where he conducts his daily business. Largely, they stay connected through Skype. There were constant meetings and text conversations flying by the entire time I was there, he even interrupted the demonstration a few times to track some bugs and tasks with the team. And don't take that as a complaint. Too often, during press demos, it seems as if the entire company has shut down for a dog and pony show. It was refreshing to know that business continued as usual. It gave me a more honest view of what they were up to.

Alganon - Preview & Screens

by Myrthos, 12:07

MMORPG did a hands on preview of Alganon and found a potential gem that is to be released within a few months. They also have several screenshots of the game.

“[Alganon is an] MMOG that isn’t biting off more than we can chew, but that still provides people with what they want,” said President and Co-Founder David Allen as he demonstrated the game and the tools that built it.

At launch, hopefully later this year, Alganon will feature two races and four base classes (that eventually expand into 12). It’s a level based game, chalked full of quests and is set in a traditional fantasy world that visually clearly owes a lot of inspiration to World of Warcraft, but fictionally evokes memories of EverQuest and other more traditional fantasy.

It’s also a subscription based game. Allen was very clear about this fact. Alganon was developed as a subscription game and that is what they feel works best. They have no urge to change that, and despite pressure from potential publishers and investors, they’ve remained true to that goal.

Alganon - Interview @ MMORPG

by Myrthos, 21:33

It has been a while since our last newsbit of Alganon, but here is an inerview with two of the Alganon team members; Mitch Gross and David Allen.

MMORPG: Tell us about your public beta announcement for September. What can players expect?

David Allen: A vibrant, inviting and fun MMO world to play in with others. I'm sure there'll be bugs, but I think Alganon will be very refreshing to players. The greatest thing about Alganon is the world is so vibrant, warm, and inviting.

MMORPG.com: How has the closed beta test been going so far? What feedback have you gotten from players?

David Allen: Going well - lots of bugs, but we hotfix regularly, sometimes daily. The feedback we've gotten is players really like the feel of the game and world, and as it comes together they are getting more and more excited.

Alganon - Interview Part Two @ RPG Vault

by Asbjoern, 22:26

Part two of RPG Vault's Alganon interview has been released. Be sure to read it if just for the screenshots:

Jonric: For readers who aren't familiar with Alganon's features and elements, which key ones will make it stand out? Are they more oriented toward solo vs. group play?

David Allen:
The key features that really make Alganon stand out are character progression (and customization), the library, deities and crusades, families, and our yet unannounced community system. Additional details on most of these features can be found on the game's website.

Alganon will allow for both solo and group play. Of course, certain quests and areas will require additional help, so there will be group-only content. However, if some people want to play the majority of the game without even grouping, they can.

Alganon - Interview Part One @ RPG Vault

by Asbjoern, 20:23

Jonric of RPG Vault has interviewed CEO, David Allen of Quest Online. Here's a small introduction to Alganon and Quest Online:

Jonric: First, to introduce Alganon to readers who aren't familiar with it, what kind of game will it be? Who initiated the project, and when? What prompted you to change the title from the original one, Crusade?

David Allen:
Alganon is a fantasy-based MMOG that takes place in the world of Ardonya. It features numerous race and class combinations, and a new blend of character progression and collaborative community-based features on top of a familiar and enhanced gameplay model that players have experienced with other titles.

Our company, Quest Online, was founded in January of 2006 by two of us, the other being my good friend and entrepreneur Greg Wexler. We immediately began work on the project, which at that time was called Crusade, but we renamed the project Alganon in January of 2007 in order to establish a more unique name for our IP.

Alganon - New Official Website

by Asbjoern, 17:07

Alganon has had its website relaunched in a new design. The intention has been to make it easy accessible.

You may notice the interface of the new website is very clean and uses large easy to read fonts. While building Alganon, we found that keeping the UI simple, easy to read and understand makes the game much more inviting and enjoyable, so we adopted the same method of presenting content with the new website. Large fonts, Icons, and clearly defined windows are part of the basic design of Alganon and all supportive systems.

The news post also mentions that they will release new information about Alganon throughout 2008.

Crusade - Peek #7 @ RPG Vault

by Inauro, 23:29

RPG Vault's series of Crusade preview articles continues with a look at Factions in Quest Online's upcoming MMORPG.

Crusade was built on the premise of having a world where the players could represent living, breathing factions - not just in name, but in culture, power and community. Too many MMOGs are very impersonal about exactly what the different sides represent other than a simple title or label.

The Asheroth and Kujix represent the central nexus of Crusade. When creating a character, players must choose one of the two factions to join, and each faction is very unique in look, culture and world standing. And while the classes may be similar (melee for Asheroth vs. melee for Kujix), they play differently. One example is Necromancy vs. Soulsinging - carving the organs out of a fallen creature versus capturing its freshly released soul. While the rewards of both harvesting techniques are similar, the methods carried out for each style results in a completely different feeling of gameplay for each side.
