Gods & Heroes - Hands-On @ GameSpy

by Dhruin, 2007-07-11 00:43:39

GameSpy is next with some hands-on impressions of Gods & Heroes:

The character I was playing with had one minion: an ordinary healer who followed me around like a puppy. As I ran around the area gathering quests, I was struck by how different the setting was from what I was used to. First, the graphics themselves are beautiful. While Gods & Heroes takes place in a fantasy world, it's a fantasy realm with strong roots in a specific time and place in the real one. This is the fantasy landscape of the Roman mind, which means the armor, weapons, architecture and clothing are based on real Roman culture (as well as Roman contemporaries like the Greeks, Macedonians, and Carthaginians). Anyone who's ever seen a gladiator movie knows the Roman style is unmistakable. The artists have done a marvelous job recreating not historically accurate representations, but rather the historically idealized version of Rome that the Empire perhaps dreamt of itself in its heyday.
