Boot Hill Heroes - Sequel in Development

by Couchpotato, 05:01

Experimental Gamer Studios is working on a sequel to Boot Hill Heroes, and a site called entertainment buddha has all the new details from Pax East 2015 this week.

BHH2 is a classic JRPG in every sense of the word. You’ll spend your time exploring dungeons, open fields and towns in search of new gear and information. The combat is an active time based system with a focus on mixing and matching your characters’ strengths and weaknesses. Ability usage is dictated by speed so a light attack won’t do as much damage but will be quicker to use and vice versa for stronger attacks. The game takes a cue from games like Guild Wars 2 as you gain new abilities by equipping new gear. This adds a strategic layer to combat as you might use Doc for stuns while Rosy and Kid deal damage.

The big twist that the original game brought to the genre, despite being a turn based RPG, was 4-player coop. While one player controls the party on the map, characters are controlled by different players in combat. This can be split up if you have less than 3 player as well. My time at PAX was spent using Kid, Doc and Rosy while Dave supported me with Moon.

Boot Hill Heroes was a fun nostalgic throwback to westerns and JRPGs alike and the sequel looks to be more the same with subtle improvements to the formula. Boot Hill Heroes 2 is currently aiming for release sometime late this Summer.

Boot Hill Heroes - Interview @ Cliqist

by Couchpotato, 13:34

Cliqist had the chance to interview the developer of Boot Hill Heroes. In-case you miss ed the other news-bit the game is now available on Steam for half off.

Cliqist : What’s Boot Hill Heroes about?

David Welch : Boot Hill Heroes is an RPG that’s set in a Wild West setting. It’s about a farm boy who goes to the city, only to get swept up in a conspiracy involving a group of notorious outlaws. In order to stop a war brewing between the Indians and the town folk, he and his friends must track down members of the evil Saints-Little Gang and bring them to justice.

Cliqist : Congratulations on the Steam release!  Things were looking pretty iffy  there for a while.  Were you worried it wouldn’t see a Steam release?

David Welch : Yeah. When it was very close to being Greenlit, it seemed to halt and even go down in rank. It was tough to see it go so far only to slip, but eventually it was approved.

Cliqist : Did you ever consider throwing in the towel?

David Welch : No. Once your game is on Steam and you’ve told everyone you can, there isn’t anything to quit.

Boot Hill Heroes - Available Now On Steam

by Couchpotato, 08:46

Boot Hill Heroes is now available on Steam with a special 50% off offer till Oct. 17th

We often talk about how the classic console RPGs of the 90s (Final Fantasy, Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, etc.) impacted us, created treasured memories, and formed us as gamers. "Boot Hill Heroes" is made by lifelong game fans who grew up influenced by games of that era who want to bring back those lasting experiences while revitalizing the genre with a new spin.

Boot Hill Heroes - October 10th Steam Release

by Couchpotato, 05:09

David Welch announces his 2D Wild West RPG game Boot Hill Heroes will finally be released on Steam this month. Here is the latest update with more information.

Boot Hill Heroes Coming to Steam October 10!

Backers! The Steam version of the game is coming soon and I will be sending the following press release out to start promoting the game for the big day. Now the Steam version features achievements, trading cards and all those extra goodies. It also features a few new features (edit keyboard controls, multiple save files, modify screen size). As is the case with the PlayStation Mobile version of the game, if you’d like a Steam version then just message or email me personally and I will be happy to give you a free download code. (However, please wait until the game is out on October 10 or I may accidentally lose your request). In the meantime, it would be terrific if you could help me promote the game on your various social media outlets (FaceBook, Twitter, Tumblr, Reddit, etc.)

Boot Hill Heroes - Video Preview @ IndieRPGs

by Couchpotato, 04:12

Craig Stern of IndieRPGs played Boot Hill Heroes, and posted the first part of his video preview where he shares his thoughts on the game.

If I had to criticize Boot Hill Heroes for one thing, it’s that the style of the sprite art can be somewhat inconsistent–sometimes using blurring and smudging techniques, and sometimes playing it crisp and clean. It’s a relatively minor criticism, though–and it says something that that’s the best I can do as far as offering a critique. This is a solidly executed jRPG with a great setting, a charming presentation, and a unique, well-executed combat system. If the game continues this fashion past the first 45 minutes, I’d say this one is an easy recommendation.

Boot Hill Heroes - Now Available on PC

by Couchpotato, 05:08

Experimental Gamer announce their Western RPG game Boot Hill Heroes is now available for purchase. I found the news a few weeks late, but here you go.

Boot Hill Heroes now Available on PC

To celebrate Experimental Gamer going to PAX East this weekend, Boot Hill Heroes can now be purchased for PC.

I was hoping to release the game through Steam or Gog. But the game is ready and not willing to wait for those platforms. For now, you can purchase the game through this cool Humble Store Widget.

I’ll be emailing those that pre-purchased the game shortly.

Enjoy the game!

Boot Hill Heroes - A New Wild West RPG

by Couchpotato, 04:48

Boot Hill Heroes is a RPG game developed by a small studio called Experimental Gamer.

Description

Experimental Gamer is an independent game studio based in Chicago, Illinois. We believe video games have the power to make us feel, think, and experience things in unique ways not possible by other non-interactive media. Our goal is to explore these possibilities by creating games that deliver unique experiences to gamers.

They described their game as an experiment to take the beloved retro RPG experience in a new direction. They had a successful kickstarter I missed last year.

Boot Hill Heroes

Boot Hill Heroes began as an experiment to take the beloved retro RPG experience in a new direction. Instead of a traditional fantasy setting, Boot Hill Heroes takes place in the American Wild West. Instead of classic, turn-based gameplay, Boot Hill Heroes goes for a fast-paced real-time strategy combat. Rather than adventure alone in single player, Boot Hill Heroes supports up to four player cooperative gameplay.

Kickstarter and Exhibiting

After Boot Hill Heroes was deep in development, Experimental Gamer started a Kickstarter campaign in 2012 to find funding for the perfect musician to compose the game's musical score. The search succeeded when Jake 'virt' Kaufman (DuckTales Remastered, Double Dragon Neon, Mighty Switch Force, Blood Rayne: Betrayal, Retro City Rampage) took an interest in the project and offered his services. Development continued on Boot Hill Heroes which made its public debut at PAX East 2013. Boot Hill Heroes received welcome fanfare and support from attendees who were impressed with the game's combat, story, and multiplayer elements. A representative from Sony believed the game would make a great addition to the Sony Vita lineup and worked with Experimental Gamer to create a version of Boot Hill Heroes with exclusive content for the PlayStation Mobile platform.

So if you're interested you can visit the games webpage. I also have a video from a few months ago with some gameplay footage.
