Mass Effect Andromeda early impressions and facts

Geez you're right, I missed a new line opens once you research tier 5, for god's sakes I hate this atrocious UI!
Time to deconstruct/construct again… *sigh* Couldn't they just add "upgrade to next tier" button somewhere?

The UI is, indeed, terrible :)

Thankfully, you don't spend much time changing items around, because of the loadout feature.

If this had been a typical RPG - with the usual inventory juggling, it would have been nearly unplayable.

The UI even looks pretty terrible.

This is exactly why I disagree with him on loot system. Do not go for it, it's c/p TW3 underwater barrels for grind lovers with guaranteed weapon/armor to dismantle! By the end of the game you'll have so much $ and materials you don't need anything from those "hidden" boxes.
Unless of course you want to 100% the game, but due to a few bugged quests/tasks 100% is not possible anyway. Or unless you want to start NewGame+ with *everything* in inventory.

The loot itself is underwhelming. The only worthwhile things you find are the occasional armor upgrades and some of the armor mods.

Ok, I also like the decryption keys for obvious reasons ;)

What I meant was the loot system - particularly the crafting system and the weapon and armor modding.

Those are good systems, in my opinion. Well, better than the usual Bioware crap, anyway.

I love stuff like bullet penetration and the fact that mods have a big impact, and are more than just minor cosmetics.

The UI is still horrible, though.

As the only thing I left to do on Eos was Architect, nailed it. And now Eos is not present on the galaxy map any more! WTF Bioware?

More to it, as certain Advent (Aurora, caves, potential Benefactor/DLC material) people asked me to allow them mining before I killed the architect, I accepted that and now when I talk to their Scout the "kill architect" returns on the screen although I did it! Not possible to remove by any means, had to reload and not talk to the guy again.

Not the end of it, after Architect dead, you talk to Hayley on Eos settlement and she wants to wake up another person from cryo (water specialist), but there is no task. Okay, you go Nexus, do that, return, she says thanks but the person unlike previous two you woke from cryo is nowhere to be found.

Seriously I'll replay the game just to make the damned buglist. Seems lategame content is bugged like crazy.
Off to report this on EA answers…

I meet an NPC with heterochromia and another one with two tone hair in a minor side quest. You can't do this in the CC *sad*.

Isn't it because the Architect fly over the planet…I saw a screenshot of that this morning, lol (can't find it right now).

I'm going to finish my current playthrough, but I'm going to wait for a few patches before doing a second run of it.

I can add a screenshot if needed. Still, the pointer to planet should be shown on the galaxy map.

EDIT:
Found the reason. I have no quest, sidequest nor task unfinished on Eos. I killed now architects on Voeld and Kadara, Kadara is shown because I didn't do the kidnapped people task there. Voeld, where I did everything, also disappeared from the map.

But hell it sux. See there is that certain spot on Eos near site #2 where is you touch a certain container Ryder comments something like "strange, let's scan and track it". And you can't scan anything nor track anything. Scrapped quest? Dunno, but I want planets with habitats shown on the map!

Eh? I knew it - mentioned in my previous post about Addison's assistant although not specifically.
When you talk to Addison assistant to wake someone up from Cryo, the text is grayed out second and third time. This odd design choice is not applied only on sidekicks nor just text branches - in some cases reinitiating chatty with a person gets you a new quest (or task).

In some cases dialogues feel odd and out of place, for example Moshae's reactions go backwards (she comments the most recent thing first then goes back in time and comments stuff you did ages ago that basically led to this "fresh" thing she commented first).

And in some cases it's horribly bugged (talking to Aurora scout after killing architect on Eos adds unavoidable and irritating "kill architect" text on your screen thus you have to reload, talking to doctor on Nexus after you unlocked all father's memories freezes the game, etc).

But due to the game size, and honestly it's huge, for any new player I suggest do what dart did. Concentrate only on main and allies' loyalty quests. Go for sidequests and tasks only after activating Meridian main quest (well… not exactly what will happen, but when you arrive to Meridian you'll know that's the point of the game most of sidequests and chatty are unlocked so you don't have to waste time on visiting planets all over again).
There is only one sidetask that's probably missable and it's with jailed person in Kadara port. No it's not the one where you choose if certain angaran will be executed! That's not the port jail. It's the one where a prisoner asks you to pass a message to an asari dancer. Based on your choice who'll rule Kadara, this prison cell can become empty later and questgiver will be gone. Not sure if this will happen though as I did the quest before choosing the ruling faction nor if any other sidequest is missable if you progress with the main story too fast.

Lemme return for a sec to Bioconverter mod. Sure, against architects you'll use a sniper rifle, but against an early swarm of trashmobs generally I think you're better of with Soned assault rifle early. Not the highest DPS possible, but thanks to the clipsize (120!) your HP won't suffer much.
https://www.reddit.com/r/masseffect/comments/612l4i/no_spoilers_i_made_a_simple_weapon_dps/#s

That DPS table includes 2 secs of refill time so you can download it, open in excel then edit 2 into 0.
Maybe I'm wrong, but it feels as Soned would be perfect for earlygame, Valkyrie later when you beef yourself up with soldier and tech passives.

Anyone tried running around with Drack and you with the Remnant "cryofist"?

I did, it is hilarious. I took down a Kett stronghold by punch-freezing Ketts that got Drack-rammed into tiny pieces afterwards.

I killed Eos Architect last night, totally unprepared (no health regen,charge/backlash/omni-grenade, shotgun using ammo, stats focusing on melee attack, Cora and Peebee in the party, level 20 though and on normal).

That was much easier than all the complains about them being hard lead me to believe. And I couldn't charge into it to recharge my shield or punch it. Well I could, but when I did that it made an electric fields that dealt damage overtime effects and almost killed me.

Also, Cora complaining about Ryder always being the one to drive the Nomad despite no regulation supporting that, lol. The Nomad banter is the best.

Your sidekicks did the trick. I had Drack&Jaal - they're no good in this case. Against architects you need females (if one hates Cora or Peebee, Vetra kicks arse there too).
As you also noticed, you need to stay as far as possible, means forget pistols/shotguns but use either AR or sniper.

I wish there was a trick to "force" Nomad banter - there is so much of it between any pair and it's awsome. The sad thing is because of endless trashmob respawning idiocy sometimes happens it ends abruptly or you stop listening to it as you switch focus on bloody trashmobs.

-

Early impressions is the title, here is early impression on the game ending.
Unlike ME3, your choices matter. Skip decisions, skip sidemissions, well, no help for you during exhausting ending battles. Yea, you *can* not care and skip several decisions.

I'll add spoilers, but more as hints than an actual recipe:
- After clearing planets from all threats (architects included), they won't be in any more danger during this game. All will be a safe place for settling specialists and civilians. Adding any new combat skilled persons to any settlement is not wise.

- Yea you've heard it. Someone's versed in combat and you have a choice where to put them? Either point them to Nexus or make them join resistance.

- Jaal can persuade any Angaran "unsure what to do" into joining resistance. Drack can make your life easier if a krogan is not "behaving". Whenever you can persuade someone into your cause, do it.

- That's persons. What about technology and resources? To put it at "safe place" on Nexus or not? Not. Nexus is not a safe place for technology and you'll learn that before having any such choice. So when you have a choice, do not keep the tech for Initiative, give it to Angara, Krogan or whomever you can. A huge spoiler, huuuuge:
Alien AI give to Angara, Remnant core give to Krogan and let Annea to keep her water business after you discover her "secret"

- Asari, salarian and turian pathfinders know what they're doing and have more experience than you. Do not try to save them! When you have a choice yes or no, say no. However, you need other three pathfinders which means, if one of others dead or missing, you need to persuade another person into taking their place.

- Kadara port has two factions fighting each other. You can, if you want, help one side to prevail, but you don't have to if you can't be arsed. Whichever side you helped, will help you in the end. If you help noone, game will throw a dice and give one of them to you randomly. In this case your choice is strictly roleplay wise.

- Finally life matters. Show mercy when possible especially if that means saving innocents. Sometimes sparing someone is not possible, in Kadara example you might have to let someone getting killed, but as I previously stated, in that case it doesn't matter in the end who you helped because they'll help you. In sidekicks' loyalty missions, try not to kill anyone when you have a choice, okay?

I didn't know any of this during my first playthrough. And of course I didn't make all "correct" choices (screwed alien AI thing for example). Not that it mattered much as I was level 60+ and could work my way without any help, but still. It was plain awsome to see people I helped through the game joining fights at different stages.
So much better than war assets ME3 idiocy that mattered only if you'll see Shepard's hand or not and actual ending was turned into choosing red-green-blue which color you like the best.

I used a shotgun to fight it and was pretty in its face, but the Dahn is a single plasma ball so it doesn't spread like other shotguns. I think Cora with Shield Boost was the real helper here though and my awesome dodging skills.

Vetra is awesome at everything though...everything. I need to run around with her more.

As for banter, I agree, it's kinda annoying how it gets cut by environmental stuff. They should force it over the rest.

I have a certain problem now. When I like a game, I do the buglist when noone else does, but those were always nonbestsellers (Risen 3, Raven's Cry, etc) and not bug-o-ramas like Skyrim.
Not sure if I'd do it also for this game, reports on issues aren't "kept secret" by the audience, but EA answers HQ is an unorganized stockpile of shit, so many things are reported in more than one thread and EA CMs aren't cleaning/merging anything.

Decisions decisions aside, not sure if anyone already mentioned - puzzles.
Actual ones, not sudoku.
While IMO too easy, I love them! Example, you need to find a correct sequence - can't be easier when by consoles lights get lit, the first to activate is where just one light appears, second to activate will have two lights by it, and so on.
Also, hidden "switches" in remnant vaults you need to find and grant you enormous XP when you loot remnant tech after using those, couldn't be a better reward!

I just wish there was more of this stuff and less grinding and less randomness.

No, thank god! No.

See, I couldn't force myself into replaying DA:I and still can't. Never bought those "mission" DLC, just can't bring myself under instaspawnbear torture machine and DA:I DLC would be a waste of $ then.

But ME4? That also has rubbish respawns? I'm already thinking about replay with different choices. They didn't remove the grinding crap completely, but at least made it tolerable.

Glad to hear it. I had read today that BioWare acknowledges some significant issues and are trying to come up with some fixes. Guessing that patch will be rather large, and not likely for at least another month. I'll play then.

I don't expect anything large - there is nothing large to fix except animations, but there is no way EA would fund something like that - it'd need a rework.

The game does have it's fair share of bugs, can't be sure but without actual numbering them and proper deliberate bugging the game playthrough, I'd say it's less than 100 annoyances total. MMO included.
For a 100 hours long game with so much content, it's IMO awsome.

They already said that new CC features will probably come with a Black Emporium type free DLC. So it's not everything that will be a patch.

There is a patch coming with MP and SP fixes and improvements (like less annoying SAM) soon though.

I also think that there is going to be a big update in May, BioWare announced pre-release more bonuses for the Deluxe edition for that month (2 Nomad skin and 1 casual outfit), which always came off as suspicious to me.

I'm not quite happy with their planned "freebies", the new MMO map and character broke playing Apex missions in MMO mode that worked normally before. A new casual outfit? Wouldn't surprise me if it happens to be glitched.

Ah well… I hope for extensive bugfixes patch before any "enhancements". Quality, not quantity.

Finally completed it. This is a much bigger game than people were reporting. They must have skipped a great deal. In-game time (on the save game) shows me at well over 80 hours, so the actual time must have been quite a bit more. Update: Origin says 91 hours. Sounds about right.

Also, there aren't anywhere near as many broken quests as some were saying. A few, yes, but they're so minor, it's of no consequence (in the "task" list, which typically doesn't even show up on the map).

I'll be starting a replay of it soon, and will write some more about it after that is well underway. I've heard rumors that male and female Ryder actually have different personalities as main characters, meaning the dialogues are different. I really need to check that out. Would be impressed if that was the case.
