Those character traits, weaknesses and skills... they weren't present in vanilla JA2, were they ?
I mean: I really couldn't see (ou couldn't access) the char's traits in vanilla.

They are. But you can only access them in the screen I showed in the screenshot which you can reach via laptop.

Without 1.13 you do the test to determine them
With 1.13 you can just set them as you like.

There are some things in 1.13 which are new.

Can you explain why there are uni- and bi-directional arrows ? Correct if I'm wrong but I think they show the befriended mercs (but then why there are uni-drectional arrows ? Can a merc be one's friend, but this one, in turn, isn't friend of that merc ?)

Also: why does the borders (when not glowing) have different colors ? What those color does mean ?

You are absolutely correct. It's more like each character has one or two characters he likes, and one or two characters he hates.
There is even a special case with Gasket and Vicki.
Gasket is a hillbilly (and might also be racist) but he still likes Vicki (who is african american I think). Vicki however hates Gasket.

The red borders are: AIM
The "skin-colored" borders are: MERC
And the yellowish borders are: Characters you can recruit on the map

When I was playing vanila JA2, I recruited Ira and managed to keep her alive until Drassen sector, although she died before we met the Father in Drassen. I don't remember what difficult level I was playing but surely it wasn't Novice.

Switch to JA2 v 1.13: I made a new whole team (playing at Experienced level), recruited Ira and she died as soon as my team stepped outside the Omerta sectors. She didn't even reach Drassen Airport.

Or Ira is a lame recruit (with lame starting equipment) or the mod does really increase game's difficulty. Or perhaps BOTH!

BTW, when I got to the Father in Dressen (in my vanilla JA2 playing), he talked about Ira, that he knew her and such. Does getting to him with Ira still alive allow us to get some kind of bonus (better supplies, equipments, etc)?

It is a hard game. I tend to save scum to make up for it. :/

Regarding IRA, I don't know about a boni, but she's a great trainer. I just keep her in the back lines in cover, mostly, and use her for her healing and militia training skills. Sure she'll still fires her gun from the back, but she rarely connects. Others can train up her marksman skills to make her not so abysmal with a gun.

I actually don't know if it gives any bonus but I guess it doesn't.
The 1.13 makes the game more adjustable. But if you take the same settings, it's probably much harder, yub. Also the Game isn't really made for No-Load Games, especially with 1.13 active. 1.13 Adds further realism to the game, and this also means that you can be one shot. While I played on Ironman, this means in Jagged Alliance 2 that you cannot save in a sector with enemies. But you can save if you leave it, save and come back. This costs morale each time, so there is some drawback for doing so. But to me this was the most exciting way to play (everything else on max difficulty as well).
But one time I also tried to play with self enforced ironman, meaning with no save/load at all (with much easier settings). Needless to say that it didn't work for long. My first character, which also was my main character died after roughly 3 hours. Enemy got a interruption when standing a couple of times away, shot me in the head for 94 points of damage.

Was a fun ride nevertheless.

Ira is quite good as a medic and as Thrasher mentioned you can use her to train troops. She just doesn't hit a thing. But as her Wisdom is high, there is potential to change that as well.

It's written in flash, so it's a bit more complicated if you dont want to install a version of the vulnerable flash player.

First go to https://ndnw.net/JA2/big2.swf
And then download the swf file directly

If you have a standalone flash player you can just run it.
Otherwise I found this page:

Hrm, works for me. Maybe try a different browser. I attached a pic but ofc that can only show friendships. Who hates each other was shown via mouseover.

I tried it on Firefox and Chrome, what browser are you using?

I think there is a problem that the file gets corrupted when downloading. I am now installing some adobe stuff and will try if I can save the whole thing in a more usable format
If anyone has experience with that (and a license) let me know.

And I just installed it but apparently its more than just opening and resaving in a different format. But don't have time to learn that program which will also stop working after a 7 day trial

Alright, here is a even more complicated solution but which seems to work
Go to https://ndnw.net/JA2/big2.7z
Download that file, extract it. Then go to
https://exponenta.games/games/AFL/
and load the extracted file. Had to even use 7z as zip will break it.

It must be something on my side, it didn't work again

7zip says I can't open the compressed file. I even installed the 7-Zip 21.03 beta version, since the version I was previously using (19.00) couldn't unpack the file too.
