The Totally NEW Team Corwin Thread

For those absent:

We ran EE Borderlands and all of GH except Madstone and Crucible. I got about a level and a half out of it.

As a side note, epics are much more balanced feeling; seems like we were cutting through without it feeling like a slog or being plain impossible. Rachail seems almost viable despite being in a gimpy build. I may be rebuilding her for more damage (and durability), though that will almost certainly eliminate her healing capabilities. I need to actually gear her out first though; I have three empty slots, and a bunch of L12-15 gear on whats left. I already have a +20 heart I picked up for Aerii, but I can always use the +5 we just got on each epic character instead for her (or just buy another).

I'm going to put out a call of Gianthold this current life; we haven't been doing it often, and Alrik could use the extra portable holes from the favor.

I can agree to that, although I was extremely frustrated with how it was done.
Everything was totally frustrating for me, first, because of crappy loot, and second, because of the speed. I could barely follow everyone (although i must admit that at the end I found out that Bany was rather wearing her featherfall cloak than her speed cloak).
I was most of the time following either blue dots, dead corpses, treasure bags, or hirelings trailing around.
The Prison Of The Planes was extremely frustrating for me, because everyone was running on spot, without even buffing.
For everyone else except me, that was okay, but I had a few imho unneccesary deaths (some caused by my own wrong decisions, though).
Since I did most Gianthold quests only for the send ( ! ) time now, i didn't have everything in my memory anymore, and thus did not know what to do.
I see that everyone was trying to get through everything as fast as possible, but my guess is that a split of all GIanthold quests to this Friday and next Friday would have resulted in a more relaxed run, with more care about the question "is everybody here ?"
Of course, as I wrote above, that's partially my own fault, because my character wasn't wearing the speed item in the last quests. However, speedruns are totally not my way of questing.
Now I need to get an item with even more speed on it.

On the positive side : Yes, the quests felt well balanced. One could (literally) cut through them without buffing.

Alrick, I am sorry you didn't have a fun session. I think as a group we need to remember to ask if you know the quests and set the speed of the run accordingly. Second, you do know you can get augments for speed, feather fall, ect from several vendors in game with trading in matts. And some of us may have extras we can give you. You should have your feather fall and swiftness slotted and not depend on items that give it. Lets work on that next session for you as well. Get you a few augments with your matt collections. And see what we can hook you up with.

I have a few random loot items with speed on them, albeit scattered around on several toons. I need to find out what's best.

I didn't know there are featherfall and speed augments ? I've never seen them. I have 1 or 2 underwater breathing augments, though.

I don't know whether speed can be crafted with cannith crafting ... I'll have to check that.

Featherfall is a cheap and low level yellow augment. There are traders in the marketplace for that:
https://ddowiki.com/page/Augment_Slot/Purchasable_Augments#ML_4

Striding is also a low level yellow augment.

Speed cannot be crafted, as it's a combination effect, but the Striding and Alacrity effects can be crafted. Alacrity is split into melee and ranged, and is a bit of a pain to fit in since it's only on goggles suffix and gloves prefix, with either slot for trickets. Striding is on Rings or Boots prefix, but for boots that's usually the slot you put a striding/speed item in, unless you're lucky and have FOM boots.

I have found a 30 % speed item, and gave that Bany.

But thanks for your replies, I'll go and look after that, too.

If plans go as decided, then I won't be there on Friday, 19th, because on Saturday 20th we need to go fetching more stuff from the house of my grandparents, before it gets sold (which will very likely be within the next 2-3 months). And i need to be fresh at that time (reading : not tired).

We finished Gianthold Epics, including rerunning some stuff. Rachail picked up about 2 and a half levels total from Gianthold.

I still plan on rebuilding her for better damage and durability, but I just haven't had the time. But she did alright damage wise. Just too damn squishy.

Reminder that the US has Thanksgiving on the 25th, day before the worst day of the year. I don't think I'll be doing anything other than eating leftovers, so I should be available. But we may be short that day. Plan chaos accordingly.

I'm planning on more durability for Bany, but II'm note sure that I might suceed. I'm currently looking for Light armor with a few things to get the spell failure chance down to zero. Since Bany is Elven, there is a good reduction via the racial tree already in place.
I also have an augment which i might use as well.
The real problem is, however, that I do not know any good caster armor or robe at her level range. I simply don't have any.

I'm not using Korthos gear, but Bany still uses that Barovian caster robe because of its bonuses / boni.

Currently I'm replaying the major Gianthold quests with my level 25 Ahiania to better understand how these quests work (and to eventually get some more Dragon Scales, if possible ...)

What you need at low level epic is the level 15 Sharn armor. E. g. this for a wizard:

Order's Garb dropping from Best Laid Plans:
https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Order's_Garb
+5 enhancement, fort 94%, PRR +19, exc spell power 8, exc spell lore 3%,

For sharn gear you would like to get the 3 item set bonus.
So then go for these items as well:

Aetherband bracers from Roll Call:
https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Aetherband
Spell pen 5, insightful spell pen 3, magical efficiency 3%, shield +8

Dusk lenses from thrall of the fungus lord:
https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Dusk_Lenses
Potency 60, Insightful potency 30, eff metamagic, empower ii, eff metamagic, maximize i,

Set bonus: Esoteric initiate:
25 spell power, +2 int, cha, wis, +2 spell DC, +10 MRR cap

Okay, I'll try to farm that with my level 25 char, sounds easier that way.
I finally soloed The Prison Of Planes and Gianthold Tor - which tooks lots of the afternoon and of the evening - and I finally understand both quests. It feels as if I had been understamnding them to only 10-20 % before that. Not, that I did all of these mechanics and paths myself, I underastand them so much better now !
This is all, however, only something for long and boring afternoons ...

Eldritch Knight has both spell failure reduction and light and eventually medium armor proficiency in it. I believe it's pretty common for wizards and sorcs these days to dip into it for some defense; Mureall was using medium armor thanks to EK for example. I believe Aerii is using light armor, though I haven't logged in on her in awhile. https://ddowiki.com/page/Wizard_Eldritch_Knight_enhancements

Yes, I think I remember that. My route had alwqys been so far using light mythreal armor and then getting spell failureredution with/to it.

I think Sharn lacks a good caster light armor so you need to go all the way to medium armor. That is what I do.

The Mark IV from Smash and Burn is the armor you need then
https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:The_Mark_IV

Arcsteel Brim from No Refunds headgear
https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Arcsteel_Brim

Attunement Gauntlets from The Same Old Song for the set bonus
https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Attunement_Gauntlets

Set bonus is Arcsteel Battlemage
+25 spell power to electric, fire, force and repair
+5% spell crit chance to same
+2 artifact bonus to intelligence
+1 artifact bonus to spell DC

Eldritch Knight is definitely worth investing into to get medium armor proficiency (Armored Arcana at tier 4)

There are some armors with set bonuses from Sharn Docks quests too (level 17)

The Dreadkeeper set (one of the three armors + bracers and gloves):
Medium armor: https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:The_Blackmail
Light armor: https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:The_Grey_Leathers
Robe: https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Robes_of_the_Dreadkeeper
Bracers: https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Necromancer's_Bracers
Gloves: https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Skin-tight_Gloves

Set bonus:
+25 spell power to negative, poison and force
+5% spell crit chance to same
+1 int
+ 10 PRR
+1 spell DC

So this is for a wizard focusing on necromancy and poison spells.

An alternative if you stick with light armor would be to drop back to Blue Dragonhide.
https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Blue_Dragonhide_Armor

Peter's set is a better answer, but if you can't get enough points into Eldritch for whatever reason or don't want to farm out the 3 items, the dragonscale stuff is a simple turn-in in Gianthold.

From earlier runs with you I already have the Blackmail and the Grey Leathers ... The Grey Leathers are currently worn by my lavel 25 Aasimar Scourge, Ahiania, and the Blackmail currently isn't used.

I'll take a look at this.

A reminder : I won't be there for the Friday run. Do what you like.
My Bard could take level 6 at any time, and Bany could take the next level, too. I think.

There's a new patch, by the way : https://www.ddo.com/en/update-511-release-notes
