The Lord of the Rings TV series.

Sexual content like Game of Thrones. Not a fan of that for LOTR.

I'll be very surprised if it's anything like that. I did a search, and all I could find were some speculative articles that used words like "could" and "may" a lot.

I don't see it happening though. Remember, the Tolkien estate has final word on what gets approved in this series.

Is there any particular reason to think this series will suffer from preachy bad writing, though, beyond the speculation of youtubers who make a living grinding on that stuff?

If Amazon does not respect the lore then the writers will have to 'invent' stuff and we have seen where that can go with Game of Thrones. As it is the second age is largely devoid of story details beyond the larger outlines so that is a big red flag already. It's a wait and see for now. Lots of tv shows pull a bait and switch and throw in the most controversial changes into season 2 or beyond.

As I already mentioned, the writers aren't allowed to contradict anything written by Tolkien about the Second Age.

As far as the story is concerned, there is plenty of material there for them to work with. I actually like that they won't be bound to one specific narrative like in LotR. It left little to the imagination, and everyone more or less knew exactly what was going to happen at every step.

I can only hope the Tolkien estate will force the creators to use constraint with their property, and keep them on task. And if they, the creators, are going to ape anything from Ice and Fire, emulate the first three books, not that horrid television show.

You've seen the LOTR slot machines I take it? I hope for the best but expect the worst unfortunately.

What do those have to do with this series? Are you sure you're not just looking for excuses to hate on this despite knowing almost nothing about it at this point?

I think the odds could be much worse. Imagine if Disney had gotten the rights.

That has to do with the Tolkien estate "respecting" Tolkien. I'm sure you can see the relevance to the conversation. I look for character when it comes to decision making and set my expectations accordingly. I will be pleasantly surprised if it turns out good and I'm not trying to make you agree with me btw; I'm just explaining my expectations since you asked.

Tolkien was all about the story, and then the characters that took you on the journey. I would expect any visitation to his realms to carry on those same philosophies. Leave the high school dramas to other networks.

Actually, I don't. Maybe you could explain it?

You seem to be drawing some far reaching conclusions.

Tolkien is being used to get people interested in gambling. Tolkien was very Christian and his work displays very Christian themes. Things that are not covered correctly in modern entertainment by major networks or corporations.

That's an Interesting coincidence. I was in the gambling industry as well. I worked at a casino in Detroit for almost 8 years. First as a slot machine attendant for almost a year, and then as a card and dice dealer for about 7 years.

I have to say though, I don't see a connection between the existence of Hobbit slot machines and the likelihood of gratuitous sex in the upcoming series.

The point is that for moneys sake many things happen that shouldn't happen. I think it inevitable for Amazon to pursue a more GOT angle because that worked for awhile. It may not happen but whatever.

I hope you're right, JDR. That is what I'd hope to happen, yet I know showers of cash can tempt even the most stoic of folks. If they keep to their principles, the Tolkien estate I mean, we should have a fine series that will remain true to the master, for all of us to savor.

I doubt there'll be much of that personally, because LOTR and the Hobbit seem to fare well with younger demographics too. Having sex scenes would make it hard for families to watch together.
Could be educational
But yes, just kidding, this would be awkward indeed, and even bring all sorts of race-related issues since it's the trend these days.

Let's hope the Tolkien Estate can use enough influence to keep that in the right direction.
