Default RPGWatch - Game of the Year Awards 2017

January 16th, 2018, 10:42
Until Monday the 22nd of January, you can vote for the 3 best RPGs that were released in 2017 and the three games you really would like to play and are scheduled to be released in 2018.

Note that the games listed in the Best RPG section, is a subset of all RPG and RPGish games that have been released last year. Together with some of our forum members we reduced the size of the total list. However, if you want to vote for a game that is not on the list of best RPG or most anticipated, you have the option to manually add that game.

As usual, the voting is limited to registered users with at least 10 posts.

You can vote right here.

More information.

I managed to gather enough time to finally get the lists up, so have fun in voting and if you like you can also complain about it

We were missing Pathfinder: Kingmaker in our 2018 RPGs, so that has been added, assuming it will be released this year.

I think 2017 was a fine year for crpg's. 2018 is looking pretty good also.

2017

1. Battle Brothers
2. Elex
3. Divinity: OS2

2018
1. Mount and Blade Warband
2. Bards Tale 4
3. Kingdom Come/Pathfinder: Kingmaker

Hard for me to leave any of those 4 out for 2018.

Can I re-vote then? I voted for 'Other - Pathfinder: Kingmaker' because the option wasn't there before the edit.

Well, I'm looking forward to Pathfinder more than PoE2 - so I would vote for that instead.

Indeed, if possible, I would revise my vote also and slot it in at 3rd most anticipated. Will re-voting overwrite the previous choices?

Vote entered.

I almost set nothing for 2018 and only played 2 of the game in the 2017 list. I'm not really hyped for anything in 2018 outside Deadfire, but I backed Kingdom Come so…

The game I enjoyed most this year was Tyranny, which I finally got round to playing. I thought the 2017 RPGs were a bit disappointing - I expected to really enjoy DoSII but felt a bit underwhelmed when I played it. Might enjoy it more when I go back to it. The 2017 release I most enjoyed was actually Grimoire, although it feels a bit odd putting that forward for GOTY with all its balancing problems and opaque systems. Great dungeons though. The only other game I played was the new South Park, which i thought was ok but not as good as the first one.

Next year is easier. Avernum III top, then Pillars. Third choice could have gone a few ways but ended up with Unknown Realm.

There wasn't too much for me to get excited about this year, with most of the games not matching my personal expectations of what I want from an RPG. It was a great year for Viking theme games, aRPG fans and the usual collection of jRPGs though, so I've no doubt there's lots of happiness out there.

Div:OS 2
Exp: Viki
And a game probably no-one else will choose.

Next year might potentially be more up my alley though, quite a few obvious picks in that section of the vote.
