I'd just start it with the 970. THe difference in graphic modes don't make a huge difference in visual appeal in this game. Also you never said the resolution of your monitor and i'm not sure how people can give advice without that missing factor with regards to ultra mode.
Got it today. I'm playing Sword Coast Legends right now, though. Will check this out after Kingmaker.
