This vid justifies its target as Fireaxis XCOM vets. The AP system is nothing new in terms of UgoIgo gameplay. When it is used to be thought otherwise, it is indeed possible that socalled vets could be unsettled by the different system.

The vid features the different system without illustrating how it leads to a different gameplay in effect.

Implementing a different system is most of the times unsufficient, it must fit in a context.

From watching streamers, it is quite hard to notice how it differs in terms of decision making as situations are addressed as if there was a two action system or whatever.

Actually the video did a good job of showing how different style of play can be executed (very similar to divinity original sin but radically different from xcom - i presume you played xcom but given your comment perhaps you have not).

The UFO DEFENSE creator managed to make another excellent game with amazing combat.

However, if you start playing XPiratez or The XCOM-Files you will laugh at this lobotomized gameplay, because in the latter two you are free to do whatever you want. But in Phoenix Point you at least have high resolution 3D graphics, which your PC might not run at full speed & full glory and large aliens storming through anything, destroying buildings.
In XPiratez or The XCOM-Files you have way more freedom and incomparably MORE FUN gameplay that Julian only dreams about creating..
