Couchpotato spotted a new devblog for Urban Strife:

Urban Strife Spring 2024 Dev Blog (Episode 1)

Today we'll reveal the scope of the main campaign and our progress towards the finish, with details about AI roles, ballistics & armor, zombification and RPG improvements. Next episode will detail additions to perks & learning, the stealth game, crafting changes, cars and travel, item durability & healing/pain.

AI Improvements at Play
We have mentioned the possibility of adding more specific AI roles in the previous articles, thanks to the new AI systems. As the work on the main campaign has progressed and we've started to place the actual faction on the maps, the opportunity to use such roles has materialized.

Tough enemies know new tricks
First, all bosses have received specialist bodyguards, assigned to protect them and protect them only. Most of the special "named" actors have also received medical supplies, such as bandages or boosters. And you'll notice them making good use of them, painkillers in particular being the most effective in combat. In the example shown Court Administrator Jenkins, the right hand of the Courthouse boss, takes advantage of the decent cover and medicates on his turn after being previously injured.

Thanks Couchpotato!

More information.

It says they're finished with 9 of 15 maps, but they're not clear on how much is left with the other 6 maps. It sounds like a 2024 release is possible.

Reading this has me somewhat excited about the game again.

Notice how they never mention a release date anymore. They were targeting last year but based on that update info the game, and main campaign is nowhere near completion.

I'm not even sure they have finished 9 maps. From what I understand, it's only what they call the 'vanilla' setup, not how the map can change with the various outcomes. There's a whiff of feature creeping to this post, but as long as they can afford it, I'm fine with a better game.

So far we have completed the initial setup of level design, RPG, factions and loot for 9 of these major locations and their corresponding story encounters. That’s not counting the intro/tutorial map and your shelter that have been completely redesigned since the days of the demo. Six more locations are in the works, in various stages of design.

That's almost 4 7 years of development, unless they started before 2020. EDIT: I've seen 2016 mentioned, but no reference, so I'm not sure it's correct. There's a video made in 2017, though, so it's almost 7 years, not 4.

Problem is they gave dates and can't take them back. Something seems off to me. Who knows what's really happening behind the scene as said above it's been seven years.

It does seem like they might be trying to do too much for the size of their studio, but I'm fine with it as well. I'd rather have a better game then than a lesser game now.

I like that they got rid of some of the sillier elements (the Legion faction from the demo) and seem to be focusing on a more serious and realistic game world now.

I think it's just a small team and they're redoing things they deemed not good enough, so that can quickly take time.

Speaking about years, I saw their publisher was Microprose. Now, that's a name that goes back!
