Shack News - Game Manuals of the Past

The advent of MMOs and in-game tutorials have replaced the printed manual, for better or for worse.

Actually the World Of Warcraft manual is pretty sturdy, being small paperback size.

But I do remember when game boxes were of a decent weight, and I remember when they began to become noticeably lighter, which was distressing. I think the last heavy game box I bought was Civ III Gold, that came with a nice big manual.

I simply loved and adored the Game Manuals in Baldur's Gate 1+2 as well as the Game Manual in Fallout. I have some older adventure games as well in which there also are big game manauls that spill the story behind the game's story. Very nice :)

Today, if I have the money for it, I always go for the Limited Edition or the Collector's Edition of a (pc) game since these seems to have big, nice & great manauls attached to them. I like the feeling of sliding my fingers over the frontpage of a wellcrafted manaul. You don't see this much anymore...
