Ahh, cute bunny.

Now that Dusk has stopped whining about us supposedly not understanding what this *great* design feature called scaling is for, and chatting with Prime Junta, we can announce the final verdict. :)

Level scaling, and the majority of posters on this topic seems to agree, is an unnecessary and annoying feature. It serves nothing but supporting lazy, unthoughtful combat design and strategically impaired players who can't seem to grasp the concept that it is natural that in a world there are creatures far more powerful than they are and likewise those far weaker.

There are several examples, that I know of, of nonlinear rpgs with good challenging combat which have no scaling at all - Storm of Zehir, Baldur's Gate; and those with a little bit of scaling here and there - BG2 (and no, a few additional vampires and mummies do not count as the combat pinnacle of the game in question) .
