Final Fantasy VII now available on PSN Store

Does anyone know where this title about a "final fantasy" comes from or what it means anyway ?

I mean ... It just doesn't make much sense to me ... It is definitively NOT my personal "final fantasy" ...

Sakaguchi wanted to retire after releasing the game, so it was literally going to be his "final fantasy".

Not exactly. Hironobu Sakaguchi was only in his 20's back then, a college dropout. Square was close to bankruptcy at the time, so Sakaguchi stated that if Final Fantasy didn't sell well, he was going back to college.

Still playing FFIV DS, I'm in the Tower of Zot now.

Is it just me or did they ramp up the difficulty a little in this version?

It's slightly harder than FFIV Hard Type.

Actually, Square was in really bad financial shape and was about to close shop.
They had one last game left and called if Final Fantasy.
Ironic that the game became a success and allowed Square to live on.

There may be mention of that in here, can't recall it's been a while...

I believe it's in the original Japanese version difficulty.
They eased up on the difficulty for the U.S. version which was a shame.

(Oh, and replied re: "Final Fantasy" title before seeing your reply, oops)

Well I'm definitely enjoying FFIV DS more now, and I'm glad I decided to play it. While I wouldn't say it's "better" than the PS1 release, It's certainly not less than it. I really like how you can see what the characters are thinking when you go to the menu screen, and some of the bosses look better than in the original. (Some also looked better in the original imo)

I just got to the Underworld, but unfortunately it looks like I'm going to have to wait two weeks to finish it now. The GF and I leave for Maui in the morning, and I'm being made to leave all gaming behind for this trip. :-/

:) It was... being married ONCE is torture enough, hehe.

OK ... it is just disconcerting after a couple decades of marriage to see so many divorced families ...

14 years married here... unfortunately she's not much of a gamer.

But the good thing is she LOVES it when I game because I "stay out of her hair" :) Could be why she's always getting me games as gifts!! (ooh, Father's Day is coming up too!)
