I think the head in the edited shot is too big, especially compared to the hands. A human's face has roughly the same height as her/his hand.

No, he's right. The height of the face is not to be confused with the height of the head. The lenght of the hand = the distance form the chin to the eyebrows = height of the face.

The body-height of a normal person can be split into 7 1/2 - 8 "head-heights". Everything over 8 heights looks tall. Maybe PB tried to give the characters a heroic appearance and overdone it a bit.
