No. SR2 completely supercedes it with more stuff and a better interface. Still, might as well have it if it's free.

I respectfully disagree. I thought SR1 was pretty tight, while SR2 get's bogged down in additions like the RTS they built into it.

I liked SR1, so SR2 was a bit of a disappointment for me. Maybe if I had played SR2 first...

I really can't understand that. The RTS missions are completely optional - I never play them. The interface is much better, plus they added probes, medical bases, business centres, more hulls...the core gameplay is the same but there is more depth and diversity without losing anything in my opinion.
