Well as the title says, post your favorite soundtracks from any CRPG. A youtube link to the soundtrack is also appreciated.

This is my most favorite soundtrack: ( Gothic 3 Vista point )

Of course all of the Gothic 3 soundtracks are a masterpiece IMO. ( I couldn't finish Forsaken Gods if it didn't have Gothic 3 soundtracks. They are so good they made FG playable for me. ) But this one is truly touching and memorable.

Here are some of the other in no particular order:

Fallout 2 Modoc theme:

Jade Empire main menu music:

Diablo Tristram music: ( I remember when I was playing the game, I would just run around the village and wait for the song to reach its climax, it was just beautiful. )

Gothic main theme:

The Tale Of The Nuckelavee from the Bard's tale: ( really captures the feeling of the songs that bards sing.)

Oblivion atmosphere 9: ( It's hard to pick one music out of all, but this one in particular really takes you into another world if you are lucky enough not to get it cut off by the annoying battle music. )

Overall, Gothic 3 is hands down the winner.

Beyond Gothic 3, there are certain theme songs here and there that I like. The original Command & Conquer had several nice tracks. In fact, most C&C and Red Alert games had decent soundtracks. Baldur's Gate 2 had some nice ones as well, as did Planescape: Torment.

Planescape: Torment - main theme:

Planescape: Torment - fortress of regret:

Planescape: Torment - Deionarra's theme:

Edit: Let's not forget the good ol'classic Rock'n Roll Racing, which used actual rock songs:

The ones that stick out in my mind, and occasionally come back to me even after years of not playing, are Morrowind and Planescape Torment. The quite simple string music in Arcanum was very atmospheric, and refreshingly different.

Most of the time music is just sort of generically there. It's always a plus when a game's got a soundtrack that really works.

I preferred Gothic 1&2 over Gothic 3 when it came to the soundtracks, but they were all great.

@Drithius - Divinity 2 had great music throughout, but I particularly liked the theme for Sentinel Island. Combined with the lighting in that area, I thought it made for some great atmosphere.

Also, pretty much everything from Baldur's Gate. I even have the CD in my car. :)

I'm not really that into music, but my favorite is from Fallout 1 and 2. It was perfect for the setting.

Also, the rock channel in GTA San Andreas was great.

Other than that, music isn't really a big deal for me. It all become background noise in the end.

None, first thing I do after installing is to disable any sound in the game. I'd rather listen to my own music, although I've died a few times from not hearing mobs in the area, I think =p

My vote goes to the Gothic games as well. In Gothic 3, the composer (Kai Rosenkranz) had a bigger budget and a full orchestra to his disposal, which clearly shows when you hear the music. However, the scores for the first two games, while significantly smaller in scope, have a certain "roughness" and simplicity that fits the game perfectly and adds a very distinctive charm that is unique to the Gothic atmosphere.
I like how the nature music evoques both a tranquil and menacing/dangerous tone to the atmosphere:
Gothic: Nature music

I also think that the Witcher soundtrack is very good. There is a particular battle music piece that i enjoy a lot. You can feel the increase in adrenaline flow while hearing this:
The Witcher: Battle music

Two tracks that I enjoy from the Arcanum soundtrack:
Arcanum: Caladon catacombs
Arcanum: Villages

I also appreciate the fact they composed a new score for KOTOR instead of reusing the music from the original movie trilogy as all other Star Wars games. One track in particular that I enjoyed while playing is the Bastila theme:
KOTOR: Bastila

PS:T also had very fitting music. Though short and simple, I enjoy the Transcendent One theme a lot, especially because it was presented during the encounter between Ravel and the Transcendent One. The combination of the music and Tony Jay's voice led to some of my most memorable RPG moments.

Welcome to the forums!

Gothic does indeed have a fantastic soundtrack. It is still the game that impressed me the most, due to the incredible atmosphere and feeling of a living, breathing 3D world. I remember being simply stunned by the whole experience. The music is a very important part of creating such an atmosphere.

Gothic 2 w/NotR is the better game in my opinion, but it was certainly not as jawdropping as Gothic was.

Couldn't agree more in all counts. I usually put G1 a hairsbreadth above G2+NOTR but it is due to the huge personal tilt value #1's atmosphere and uniqueness of setting gets from me. (but I was thinking recently, while replaying 1-3 back to back, how superior to its siblings and utterly enjoyable #2 is as a game)

Also +1000 for the magnificent soundtrack of G3 (followed by G1 and G2)

After that the soundtracks for the Witcher, Morrowind and Vampire I think...

You guys made me dust off my gigantic AoC collector's edition to listen to the OST again ;) Those M&M clips are truly magical as well.

@JDR That piece is very Enya'esque, especially the beginning.

Diablo 1 was probably my overall favorite. The mixture of the music and the creepy effects embedded in the music was great. Hearing it brings me back to my first apartment after college, drinking Pete's Wicked Pale Ale, and spending countless hours on Battle.net playing Diablo (had to get rid of AOL and get a proper connection).

Close second is a general winner: the Infinity Engine games. BG, IWD & PS:T all had wonderful music. But D1 beats them just because of the atmosphere the music created.

Third: probably the Stones theme from Ultima. In one of the games it was played during the intro I think and it was just really solemn and melancholic. I'm not emo but that song always struck me.
