Joakim writes in to point out a new RPG-ish indie game that has just been released through Direct2Drive. We haven't heard of Aztaka before but it was an IGF entry this year and offers a sort of hand-painted look and side-scrolling RPG gameplay that isn't clearly explained. Here's their D2D description:
Inspired by Aztec legend, Aztaka will casts you into the middle of a war between the Gods and Mankind. Who will prevail? As Huitzilo, heir of the Sun God, skilled in both the arts of combat and magic, only you can save your people from the wrath of the Aztec Gods.

Aztaka features graphics of a quality never before seen in a game of this type. Grand, richly-detailed backdrops and fluid character animations will plunge you into the legend of Huitzilo and his quest to collect the seven Phonograms.

With 21 huge levels, Aztaka provides a veritable new universe for Action/RPG fans to explore.

Looks as a platform game with ability "upgrade" your jumping.
That's hardly a RPG.

Dhruin is right. Why wouldn't we give this game a chance?
Yea, I know, for 25$ I can buy some fancy FO3 addons or register another WoW month... Yea right. I never buy an addon for a game I hate and I certainly don't join pay per view sites, games or xxx that's all same to me.

I'll check it up. In a day or two I'll post some comments on the game.

I'm not asking anyone to buy it. Posting a newsbit isn't an endorsement. Someone took the time to point out a new game and we try to be inclusive - that's all.

Since this is an RPG site, and the game seems to at least declare it has RPG elements, it's perfectly fine to show here for it to be discussed. After all, wasn't Puzzle Quest just a Bejeweled RPG? Was that a bad sign of things to come? I don't think so.

Hmmm, any game that asks me to buy piercings is not for me. I'm not into tattoos and piercings as I'm a 45 yr. old adult and work in a profession. I could see the allure of such things for the younger generation. I don't get it, but tattoos and piercings are popular. To me, it reminds me of bondage and slavery. I tattoo my cattle and pierce them to show that they're my property. Slaves were tattooed and pierced to show ownership.

Sheesh, people seem to complain lately about some of the postings on this site and to me that's very strange. The term RPG is in the description of the game and for this site to decide to give a single bit of information on it is no problem in my view. There are plenty of items covered on this site which aren't my cup of tea (and plenty which are) but that's the nature of a site like this, not everyone likes exactly the same things. Now if this site were to frequently focus on an item which is "clearly" not an RPG that would be different but that's not close to the case here.

Saying something like "this game is not an RPG" is good feedback in my view but to complain about this site posting anything about it at all just seems whiny to me and make it more difficult to enjoy running a site like this in the first place.

Guys, seriously. Whatever happened to "hey, that sounds like something I haven't seen too often, maybe it's good"? People are far too quick to dismiss it without even bothering to have a look. There are skills, items, magic spells, levelling... i.e. RPG-stuff. This site covers stuff like Elven Legacy and Jagged Alliance, and suddenly it's wrong to cover an indie action-RPG? Jebus.

Just because it is side scrolling doesn't mean it can't be an RPG since there are side scrolling mmorpgs.

Nah. To increase our income from this site (which is almost-non-existing at the moment) I vote for sex related newsbits. From the looks of it only online-shops and sex-sites make substantial money from their websites (excluding the impossible targets such as a Google-like site here for the moment). As a shop is too much work I'll vote for a more sex oriented site.

Unfortunately pornwatch.com is already taken, but we'll think of something to overcome that. We'll turn it into a site you have to pay a lot of cash to be able to roleplay with your clothes off.

I can already envision what the tower logo would look like on this new site.

I ain't namin' no names, but going by the pictures posted on the Post A Picture Of Yourself thread, I'm not sure I'd be that keen to role-play with my clothes off with *ALL* of the folks on this site.

(OTOH if you monetized Jaz, you could probably retire, like, next week.)
