The update is today, and it looks to be a big one (down time is 7am - 3 pm), bott in terms of the update size & the need to re-spec toons, so plan accordingly.

A couple of important items:

  • "Fred the Mindflayer is temporarily offering free Feat changes! He will do so through Sunday night, October 25th."
  • It's not in the release notes, but in the forums Severlin said they would be giving two coupons for +5 hearts of wood out to each account for those folks who need to respec their toons.

So, if your toon needs re-spec'ing (and anyone with Paladin, Ranger, Fighter & Warlock levels probably will), do it this weekend. All classes are affected by these changes.

Mabar Replacement "Night Revels" will be up tomorrow only for preview

Based on the Release Notes & a post by Cordovan, it looks as if the Mabar replacement event, "Night Revels", will be up with this update, & they will be opening it up for a preview tomorrow. Perhaps we can go in & try it out tomorrow night on our guild run?

The Night Revels!

The Night Revels is a new seasonal event in Dungeons & Dragons Online. Begin your festivities in Delera's Graveyard when the event is active! Defeat monsters in Delera's Graveyard to collect either Darkest Chocolate or a special key that will allow you to access one of the four Night Revels-themed dungeons! Complete the dungeons to collect quest-specific ingredients that, combined with the Darkest Chocolate you get from defeating monsters in the Graveyard, can be used to acquire new Night Revels items!

I never got to try it out on Lamannia, but supposedly it will be zoned by toon level, so we could try it out on the Friday toons if we're all here tomorrow.

Based on the new Wiki page for it, Night Revels rewards will include the old Mabar gear, but there are now level 24 versions.

Making Paralyzing Arrows Work in High Epics for New AA Rangers

The new ranger pass makes several major changes you should be aware of.

  • They are upping the DC's of the four "special" arrows (Smiting, Banishing, Terror & Paralyzing), but basing the DC's on the Wisdom modifier, which is going to be tough for a Dex based pure ranger to achieve. Monkcher anyone?

  • The DC's for the four "special" arrows will also be based on Enchantment focus, and each of the special arrows you take will give you +1 DC to your enchantment focus. So better also take at least one level of Enchantment Focus & get yourself a good enchantment focus item (there are two that I'm aware of for epic levels: The epic Sage's Mantle (Tracker's Track), the Epic Band Immaterial (Demon Assault).

  • All elemental arrow imbues will scale with spellpower, so better find a good potency item you can equip if you plan to use them. Sage's Ring is one.

  • Manyshot has been destroyed. It no longer produces multiple arrows, but adds a level of doubleshot, which completely eliminates all the extra on-hit procs you used to get with Manyshot. And its damage output is really bad.

I spent several hours on Lamannia testing builds yesterday on my level 28 Arcane Archer (Bryhana), and came up with a build that will result in Parlyazing working on higher end EE. I did not have time to test what would work on EN or EH, but it should not be anywhere near as difficult.

I tested by making adjustments to increase the DC's one at a time until I could hold a high level mob NPC for long enough to kill it (some running backwards was needed to achieve it, though in a party the other players would probably kill it before it reached me). I used the orc lackeys & an orc commander to test it out, as their saves are much higher than the normal ToEE mobs.

The Paralyzing arrows (I tested with Paralyzing in ToEE EE; the results should be the same for the other special arrows) no longer hold a mob indefinitely … just a few seconds max unless they fail their saves with a subsequent arrow. To get the Paralyzing to stick most of the time, I had to get Bryhana's DC's up to 55, which was really tough to do. Since this was Lamannia, a +6 Wisdom tome was easy to get, & I used one on her to figure out what would be required. Other than that I stuck to gear she already has, except for the Band Immaterial ring, which I'll be farming. Without that ring, they didn't hold.

Bottom line:

I had to compromise on her other stats (STR & CON) to achieve this, I had to run in Divine Crusader (extra Wisdom), and it requires some pretty high level gear to achieve. This is going to be very difficult for many players who don't have the gear or who can't manage to cough up the TP's for a +6 Wisdom tome. However, though I didn't test it, I suspect that for EN & EH, paralyzing arrows will now work for many players. TBD.

I have included an export of her build below, as well as a breakdown of how I got her DC's up. Please note that the enhancement costs are based on what it was on Lamannia as of last night, and may be different by the time it hits live today.

Here's my breakdown:

Wisdom (includes all gear) = 46 = 18 DC
  • 16 Base
  • +6 Tome
  • +3 from Enhancements
  • +2 Insight ring
  • +1 Exceptional augment
  • +2 from Epic Litany of the Dead (Profane Bonus)
  • +2 from Divine Crusader (I ran in this, otherwise I use up all my twist slots). You can get more, but I based this on Bryhana's current ED status.
  • +11 from Orchard Gear (there are a set of +16 goggles out of the new Defiler Raid, but, well, I don't have those yet, and won't for a while)

Enchantment Focus = 15 DC
  • +1 from Enchanatment Focus feat
  • +2 from Greater Enchantment Focus Topaz
  • +3 from twisting in "Enchantment Specialist" from Magister ED
  • +4 from "special arrows" in AA tree
  • +7 from Epic Band Immaterial ring from new Demon Assault quest
  • +20 from base formula (20 + Wisdom Modifier + Enchantment Focus Bonuses)

Total = 55 DC

Update 28 Patch 1 New Known Issues

"New" Known Issues from the Official Known Issues list

  • NEW: The Shadow Arrows bonus to critical damage multiplier is not triggering correctly for the Elven Arcane Archer.

  • NEW: Barbarian Ravager's Blood Strength not not have its one second cooldown for its on-kill heal.

  • NEW: Warlock Enlightened Spirit's Eldritch Aura is incorrectly not being affected by Arcane Spell Failure.

  • NEW: Eldritch Blast Focused is incorrectly scaling with 115% Spellpower, and should be 130%.

  • NEW: Eldritch Aura is incorrectly scaling with 115% Spellpower, and should be 130%.

  • NEW: Eldritch Blast Chain is scaling with 97% Spellpower, and should be 95%.

What is the size of the update? I'm away again this weekend and if it's large, I won't be doing it; I only have 3GB's left for the next 300 days on my laptop.

It's small, Corwin. It took me less than 5 mins to download & install. However, handwraps are broken again. This is not a joke. The crit profile from Improved Critical Bludgeon is not working. See thread below.

Monk Crit not working

And apparently it's broken for all unarmed combat: Druids in animal form, & the Tree form from Primal.

Players Missing Astral Shards after Updates

FYI, might want to read this thread. Apparently some players have been losing 30 astral shards after updates. May want to start recording what you have prior to updates.

Cap being raised to level 30 soon

For those of you wanting to ER, you might want to do it sooner rather than later. Apparently cap will be going to level 30 before the end of the year, and will require possibly significantly more XP to achieve. *sigh*

Update has been put out. Pretty small.

Looks like all it does is roll out the Night Revels stuff (Mabar v2.0). If they fixed any of the new bugs, they didn't advertise it.

They fixed the messed up crit range for handwraps. & some miscellaneous stuff for Night Revels:

Feats

Improved Critical now works on attacks with no weapons like unarmed, handwraps, and Druid animal forms.
Heavy Armor fighter feats now work on Warforged with Adamantine Armor.



Quests and Adventure Areas

The Night Revels
Fixed an issue that could cause Kobolds Newest Ringleader and Under New Ravagement to complete too early.
The Reveler's Regalia's Night Horrors clickie now has its correct 90-second duration.
House Jorasco will now create new instances with lower populations to improve performance issues near the entrance to Delera's Graveyard.
The Draught of Midnight will now provide more Darkest Chocolate while in Delera's Graveyard.
Candy tooltips now accurately describe their duration and cooldown.
Fixed an issue that could cause the quests to become stuck on certain objectives if monsters were killed too quickly.
The Reveler's Regalia now displays properly on Half Orcs and Purple Dragon Knights.
The Hat of the Night Hag now displays correctly on Sun Elves and elves.
