DDO kinda is my favorite MMORPG but damn has it gotten bloated. It was all cool and exciting to have an online D&D game back in 2008 - I even ran into old High School friends somehow in the same city I lived in, on the same server; but then it just got... well after like 15+ years it got a bit cumbersome to me. That seems to be the way of all MMOs though now - you need to really keep the old guard happy. My guild leader from a couple years ago had like 20 some-odd past lives on one character and to do any advanced content you had to "keep up" with the best builds, stats, ugh. It got exhausting, and that's the point where I stop playing a game - when it feels more like work than fun. To this day when I log in I have more fun running around with newbies in the Waterworks than I did with the raids. Last "raid" in that game I had a lot of fun with was the Giant one in the halfling house that I ran over and over and still managed to get lost in.

TLDR I don't think MMOs are for me anymore. Anyone remember that weird crafting-based post-apocalypse MMO they had for a while? I forget the name, I think it tanked; but I kinda enjoyed that while it lasted.

Hyper Light Breaker, the upcoming action roguelite prequel to Hyper Light Drifter, has impeccable vibes. It's mysterious and colorful, movement feels good and combat satisfying, enemies are challenging, customization holds promise, and the music belongs on vinyl.

4-5 hours in, Rise of the Ronin feels like Team Ninja attempting to ape better games, rather than deliver something unique that plays to Team Ninja's strengths. I'm hopeful that my opinion will change, but so far Rise of the Ronin isn't hitting quite like I had hoped it would.
