Final Fantasy XV - Three of Four DLCs Cancelled

by Silver, 21:34

DSOGaming reports that the future of Final Fantasy XV is not looking great.

Things are not looking particularly great for Final Fantasy XV as Square Enix announced that the team behind it, Luminous Productions, has started focusing on creating a new game. Not only that, but three of the four planned DLCs have been officially cancelled and Hajime Tabata has left the team, meaning that Luminous Productions will stop developing content for Final Fantasy XV.

Final Fantasy XV - 8 Million Sold

by Silver, 05:07

Techquila reports that Final Fantasy XV has sold over 8 million copies.

Final Fantasy XV launched all the way back in November 2016, but the game has continued to generate decent sales for Square Enix, even in 2018. Yesterday, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy XV has sold more than 8 million units worldwide.

This announcement comes six months after the launch of a dedicated PC port of the game in March this year. Square Enix has also confirmed a special anniversary panel to be held in Novemeber. In case you are wondering, this isn’t the end for Final Fantasy XV as more content is scheduled to arrive in 2019.

Final Fantasy XV - The Best Mods on PC

by Silver, 12:34

Gamewatcher has a list of the best mods on PC for Final Fantasy XV.

Final Fantasy XV Mod - Play as Solid Snake

Yes, you can play as Solid Snake from Konami's Metal Gear Solid series! It doesn't make a lick of sense, but it's fun nonetheless. Plus, unlike most of the mods on this list, the link below will actually take you to a Mod Pack with two versions of Snake and a number of weapons from the MGS series, including the SOCOM pistol and Stun Knife!

Final Fantasy XV Mod - Donald Duck in a Mech Suit (Ignis Replacement)

Sometimes mods are obvious, like turning Noctis into Cloud from Final Fantasy VII - which are so numerous we didn't bother to put it here. Other times, they're a work of bizarre genius - such as this one. Modder AaronTheSnob wanted classic Disney characters in the game but mods have to have the same skeleton, and size, as the normal characters. So in order to put Donald Duck in the game, he... put him in a small personal Mech Suit, that of course just happens to have the exact same body type as Ignis. Seriously, this is why we love mods.

Final Fantasy XV - Mod Tools Released

by Silver, 09:40

Final Fantasy XV now has official mod tools.

About This Game

FINAL FANTASY XV WINDOWS EDITION MOD ORGANIZER is a tool to help you make mods for the FINAL FANTASY XV WINDOWS EDITION. It allows you to convert your assets into mod data and incorporate them into the game world.

The main function of MOD ORGANIZER is building model data and uploading mods to Steam Workshop. It does not have the functionality for creating and editing assets such as 3D models. Please create assets with your own tools and output them in FBX format, which MOD ORGANIZER can then import.

Your mods can be uploaded to Steam Workshop if you have a Steam account, and then shared with the community. Subscribe to Steam Workshop's mod data to use the mods in the Steam version of FINAL FANTASY XV WINDOWS EDITION.

Final Fantasy XV - Review @ RPG Site

by Hiddenx, 20:14

RPG Site has reviewed the J-RPG Final Fantasy XV:

Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition Review

Final Fantasy XV originally released in late November, 2016. That’s quickly approaching a year and a half ago. In our original review of the game, we thought that the game was charismatic, if rough around the edges. We stated that “It sometimes appears a little unpolished, but it's bristling with ideas - so many, perhaps, that its scrappy feeling was something of a necessity to cram them all in. “ And with a year’s worth of updates still to go, it feels like the truly feature-complete title is, somehow, still a long ways off.

While it’s very difficult to say what exactly Final Fantasy XV will look like in a year from now, it can be stated that its current rendition is the best yet, But I still hesitate to call it great.
[...]
All in all, Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition is the best console-to-pc port that Square Enix has produced to date. On top of that, the Royal Edition is the best version of Final Fantasy XV – so far, and even if only just. The route taken to get here has been a bumpy one, needlessly long with and perhaps without the most efficient direction, but the journey here has left us at a better place than we were at starting out. We know that there’s still several miles of road left to go though, so it seems like this trip has not quite found its end just yet.

Final Fantasy XV - Review @ PC Gamer

by Hiddenx, 13:01

PC Gamer reviewed the PC version of Final Fantasy XV:

Final Fantasy 15 is a flawed epic that makes the series relevant again

Singleplayer Final Fantasy games needed a shot in the arm.

What's cool about seeing my PC Gamer colleagues pick up Final Fantasy 15 now is how they talk about the things I loved about the game 15 months ago, when I first played it on console. That is, the damn tasty-looking food that always makes my stomach roar with hunger, which Tyler wrote about yesterday, and the in-game photography feature, which provides you with snapshots of the characters' journey that they'll comment on at the end of each day. Both are elements that were new to Final Fantasy with the fifteenth entry—but they got people talking about the game more than anything else, by being laser-targeted at players who love to share screenshots online.

Both features speak to the game's earnest and goofy charm. Final Fantasy 15 is not the best RPG in the series—not in any traditional sense, when it comes to combat, progression, and that sort of thing. But the actual journey through its world is among the series' most enjoyable. It dials in on that specific feeling of travelling with a party in an RPG and makes that the entire game. In older FFs, you mostly walked silently through gorgeous surroundings with your party off-screen, and the sense of journey would be conveyed through cutscenes and occasional in-battle dialogue. Here, all four members of your party are on-screen at all times, and they constantly interact with each other—it makes a hell of an impact.

"There were three key words we had on the board when we started out development of the game: comrades, car, journey," FF15's game development manager Kenichi Shida told me in London a few weeks ago. It shows. I couldn't tell you much about the main story of Final Fantasy 15—the kingdom of Lucis falls, Noctis is getting married to someone you see about four times in the whole game, a seemingly immortal guy called Ardyn is the villain—but that's because the game is bad at traditional RPG save-the-world stuff. Anything that isn't about the four main characters is incoherent and rarely that interesting.

Final Fantasy XV - Review @ RPS

by Hiddenx, 19:13

Henriquejr spotted a Final Fantasy XV review on Rock Paper Shotgun:

Wot I Think: Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition

The story of Final Fantasy XV is a tricky one to unpick. There’s the story about how it took ten years to actually come out, transforming from a Final Fantasy XIII spin-off into the boyband roadtrip-stag-do adventure we know today. There’s also the story of what happened after it came out, where a large chunk of its third act was almost completely rewritten and streamlined after people started complaining about how linear it had suddenly become after spending hours and hours on the glorious open road.

Then there’s the story of the game itself, which, at this point, has been spread across so many different forms of media, including a film, four anime episodes, four bits of DLC, a mobile spin-off and a multiplayer expansion (with even more to come, no less), that only three people in the entire universe actually understand it and would be able to recite it to you from start to finish.

But the story of four lads saving their home from an invading imperial army isn’t really what Final Fantasy XV is about. In fact, it’s arguably the least memorable thing about it. That might sound blasphemous for a JRPG, where the story is traditionally one of the most important parts of a game, but every conservation I’ve had about Final Fantasy XV over the last sixteen months always boils down to one of three things: food, photos and friendship. And it’s those that make it one of the best and most interesting goddamn JRPGs of the last decade.

Final Fantasy XV - Runs fine on Windows

by Hiddenx, 19:29

Ars Technica: Final Fantasy XV runs fine on a Windows PC:

Final Fantasy XV for Windows should have been a mess, but it’s the opposite

Square Enix mostly delivers the scalable, tweakable performance that PC gamers crave.

The open-world RPG Final Fantasy XV has finally launched for Windows PCs ($49.99 at Steam, Windows Store), roughly 15 months after its console predecessor. Up until this week, we weren't so sure this later version would be worth playing.

Nearly six months ago to the day, Square Enix invited us to take a world's-first look at FFXV's PC version. It wasn't good news. The clearly incomplete preview build included everything in our worst PC-port nightmares: messy mouse-and-keyboard support, incorrect resolution scaling, lousy tweaking options, and a frame rate only a mother could love.

This was followed with a February launch of an FFXV benchmarking tool, full of in-game sequences meant to tax your system and print out a vague score. However, this tool turned out so rough that Square Enix now tells fans to ignore its readings. Between that and the lack of advance access to review the PC version, we wouldn't have been surprised to see this port launch as an utter disaster.

But—what's this?—Square Enix has apparently pulled it off. Final Fantasy XV, at least based on anecdotal testing and tinkering, has landed on Windows with a breadth of tweakable options, a suite of noticeable boosts, and a knack for scaled performance. I've certainly noticed quirks in a day of testing, but the Japanese developer deserves credit for making good on a PC port worth checking out.

Final Fantasy XV - Released

by Silver, 23:32

Final Fantasy XV has been released on Steam with Workshop support.

loading...

Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition is out now and the Steam Workshop is live!

Happy launch day everyone! Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition is available now and we are also proud to announce that the FFXV Steam Workshop is also up and running!

MOD support has always been an important aspect of Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition and alongside the launch of the full game, we are proud to launch the FFXV Windows Edition Steam Workshop!
This is the home of all FFXV Windows Edition MODs on Steam and you can find it by clicking here

The FFXV Modding tool is not available straight away at launch but the development team are working hard to release it as soon as possible. At first the modding tool will be quite limited, but over time the FFXV team plan to add more and more functionality to the tool to give you the freedom to do a host of cool things in FFXV Windows Edition. We want anyone, even those who have never modded a game before, to be able to pick up the tools and use them confidently. Initially you will be able do things like swap costumes around but in the future, the tools will allow you to do much more. That is, if you want to!

This is a big step for us at Square Enix as we’ve never opened up one of our games to MOD support like this before. This is incredibly exciting for us and we hope you are all excited to help create and experience this with us too. That being said, this is going to be a bit of a learning experience for us so there may be some teething issues. We will of course, endeavour to give you the best possible experience with both the Steam Workshop and MOD support more generally.

We want the FFXV Windows Edition MOD community to be a welcome and open one and we will need your help to achieve this. If you see a particularly awesome and creative MOD, be sure to rate it highly, share it around and give credit to its creator(s) when the time comes.

Keep an eye on the FFXV Windows Edition Steam Workshop and remember if you pre-purchased or purchase FFXV Windows Edition on Steam before 1st May, you can get the Half-Life Pack from the FFXV Windows Edition Steam Workshop for free!

Final Fantasy XV - Journey to the PC

by Hiddenx, 19:34

PC Gamer reports that Final Fantasy XV was developed with PC and console in mind:

Final Fantasy 15 developers discuss mods and the game's journey to PC

I played over one hundred hours of Final Fantasy 15 on PS4, and I'm pleased it's coming to PC in what should be its best iteration yet. With a first-person mode, visual effects upgrades and modding support, its release feels like a real event, even if the wait has been longer than we'd have liked.

You probably know what the game is at this point—a moving and often thrilling roadtrip adventure between Prince Noctis and his three friends. It's much more of an action game than Final Fantasy entries of the past, with noticeably lighter RPG elements, and its structure will feel familiar to anyone who has played an open world game from the last ten years. It's finally out on Steam next week, having originally arrived on consoles back in December 2016.

"In previous Final Fantasy titles, we always completed work on the console versions and then started thinking about a PC port," says Takeshi Aramaki, technical director & lead programmer, when I ask how the process for bringing FFXV to PC compares to past entries (some of which took years to make the leap). "In Final Fantasy 15, we actually started development with a Windows edition in mind, and did everything in parallel."

"We really wanted to be able to get this game out globally to as many countries as possible, and we understood that a number of different regions and countries are very much PC markets."

Final Fantasy XV - Preview

by Hiddenx, 12:27

Game Watcher checked out the upcoming Final Fantasy XV:

We play the PC version in Maximum Settings, in First-Person, with Mouse & Keyboard controls!

Final Fantasy XV, the latest game in the long-running franchise, is coming to PC next month at long last. We got to play an hour of the Windows Edition early and wanted to do something unique to the PC version, so we played Final Fantasy XV on PC in Max Settings, with Mouse and Keyboard, in First-Person Mode. That’s with all the Nvidia stuff on too. Now that that’s sorted, let’s go on a little quest to hunt a big monster that’s been harassing Chocobos.

[...]

We returned to the Chocobo Ranch to claim our prize and, more importantly, to ride the Chocobos. The second we climbed on one in First-Person we, honest to god, laughed. We were sitting on a giant chicken. Yes, we’ve ridden Chocobos in Final Fantasy games before, but never in first-person with such superb animation and texturing. Its yellow feathers ruffled everywhere as it moved, and just having it trot forward with its head going back and forth was hilarious – and that was before we pressed the Jump key and watched it flap its wings. For the rest of our playtime we just ran about the landscape with our Chocobo, flapping everywhere we could, having the time of our lives. Who needs cars? Or third-person? Or a gamepad?

Thanks Farflame!

Final Fantasy XV - Releasing March 6th

by Silver, 12:40

@PCGamer Final Fantasy XV will release March 6th on PC. The Steam page is here.

After my hands-on at last year's Gamescom, I declared Final Fantasy 15's Windows Edition a sight to see in 4K, if you've got the PC to handle it. Now, publisher Square Enix has revealed the hardware you'll need to make this happen, and has announced when we'll visit Eon on desktop: March 6, 2018.

Back in October, FF15's minimum and recommended system specifications appeared on its Microsoft Store page, which Sam Horti rightly described as "surprisingly accessible". The game's 4K HDR specs are expectedly more demanding. Here's an overview:

OS: Windows 10 64-bit Fall Creators update
CPU: Intel Core i7-7700 (3.6GHz and above), or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X (3.6GHz and above)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
Main memory: 16GB
Resolution: 4K(2160p)
Hard disc free space on SSD: Over 155GB

Final Fantasy XV - Review @ Pocket Lint

by Hiddenx, 08:35

Pocket Lint has reviewed Final Fantasy XV, which was recently released for XBox One and PS4:

Final Fantasy XV review: An unmitigated treat for RPG lovers

Dragging a revered games franchise into a 21st century landscape of open-worlds and instant action must be a thankless, even scary task – particularly when that franchise emerged in the late 1980s, hit its peak in the 1990s and had as its centrepiece a turn-based battle system.

But that's precisely what Square Enix has attempted with Final Fantasy XV – generally known as FFXV – and near-miraculously, it has come up with an exemplary reinvention of the role-playing classic.

In common with modern RPG peers like the Witcher and Elder Scrolls games, Final Fantasy XV boasts an open-world (which is huge and packed with activities and side-quests), as well as a real-time battle system (although there's an unnecessary sop to those forever wedded to turn-based systems of yore in the form of Wait Mode, which lets you pause the action and plan your approach).

[...]

Verdict

It's fair to say that Final Fantasy XV had a rather troubled inception. It was first trailed in 2006, as Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and originally mooted for the PlayStation 3. Yep, all that time ago.

Then Square Enix decided FFXV would become the basket into which it would put all its eggs and, a full decade later, it finally emerges as an instalment of the franchise which has the tools, lore and heft to inspire similar devotion to the likes of the classic Final Fantasy VII.

FFXV also leaves Final Fantasy, as a franchise, utterly refreshed and ready to do battle with rival RPGs in the future. For Square Enix, it represents the biggest punt in the company's history. But that punt has paid off. For FFXV is an unmitigated treat for RPG lovers.

Final Fantasy XV - PC Release Would Take a Year

by Aubrielle, 15:57

In a recent interview, Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata admitted that a PC release of the upcoming JRPG would probably take a year or more, and that the only plans in place are for console releases.

Is Final Fantasy XV coming to the PC? "Maybe," we said back in February, based on a few fluffy bits of code found in the Final Fantasy XV Uncovered website. I asked Square Enix about it in August (because they keep sending me press releases) and was told nothing more than, "We have only announced the game for Xbox One and PlayStation 4." Vida Extra's interview with director Hajime Tabata doesn't clarify the point any further, but it does indicate that if a PC release is coming, it will take quite awhile to happen.

"Not talking about something real, just an idea, if we worked on a PC version of what I have very clear [in mind] is that we would work to provide a better version of what we have now on consoles," Tabata said [translated from Spanish] when asked about the "unlikely event," in the words of the interviewer, of a PC release. "We could say that something like this would take us more than a year. We should work to adapt the engine, which is very laborious, and from there to develop its course."

Final Fantasy XV - Interview with Sakaguchi

by Aubrielle, 14:44

Famitsu features a translated interview with Sakaguchi (the father of Final Fantasy) and Hajime Tabata from the Final Fantasy XV reveal event.

--”So the message conveyed at the event was written by Sakaguchi-san himself.”

Sakaguchi: It was. The message was a condensed version of my dinner discussions with Tabata-san; we wanted to get across that XV would be returning to Final Fantasy's roots as a challenger in the market. Not to say that the previous titles weren’t challengers in their own right.

--”Each installment did indeed have its set of unique ambitions.”

Sakaguchi: What we meant is that the challenge this time around is as big as ever.

--”After opening the event you got to sit down and watch; what did you think of the presentations?”

Sakaguchi: When a Japanese product or company is presented to a Western audience, the presentation tends to be one of two extremes: very Japanese, or completely Western. This event, though, struck me as featuring Japanese elements while also being relatable for a global audience. A combination that has been hard to pull off. The atmosphere was fantastic.

Tabata: That happens to be something at the very heart of the Final Fantasy series. It’s an IP with strong Japanese elements, while also being popular worldwide. The event was designed to reflect that.

Full interview here.

FFXV - Project Director on Potential PC Release

by Silver, 14:17

@Gematsu they report on a video interview from a French game website with Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata who discussed the potential of a PC release.

According to Tabata, he is "quite positive about the idea of developing a PC version," but "would like to make a very different project if possible." Tabata says he would want a PC version to be a technical showcase.

"I have in mind a version of Final Fantasy XV that is more technically developed," Tabata said. "This version could incorporate things that we were forced to abandon because of the limitations of home consoles. With the PC, this would be an opportunity to release a version far superior in terms of quality and tech. That said, if we choose to develop this project, the development will start from scratch by doing research of what would be the best technology to use. It might not be a simple port of the console version."

Tabata also teased that they will announce downloadable content plans "later this summer," and that it won't be "basic downloadable content," but rather something that will "extend the gaming experience and ensure that players continue to play."

The Nova Crystallis site has the full translated interview available to read if your interested.

Final Fantasy XV - May Come to PC

by Aubrielle, 00:50

Final Fantasy XV may possibly come to PC after all, according to some discerning onlookers.

The upcoming Final Fantasy XV is scheduled to come out sometime this year for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. And as a sharp-eyed NeoGAFer noticed, it might be coming to the PC too! Then again, it might not. The truth is, we don't really know. But there's a pretty good reason to think it will.

The story begins with the discovery of some interesting words in a Javascript file contained within the HTML code of the Final Fantasy XV “Uncovered” website, which makes reference to Steam as well as the Xbox, PlayStation, and Square Enix online stores. On the face of it, that's a fairly obvious sign that a PC release is in the works, and especially so in light of the relatively recent arrival of numerous other Final Fantasy games on Steam. A PC release of Final Fantasy 9, for instance, was announced just a month ago.

But the excitement was diminished somewhat when another user noticed that the code in question was essentially a copy of code used for the Rise of the Tomb Raider page. That led to the theory that the whistleblowing code was simply copied and pasted to the Final Fantasy XV site for convenience, and that the Steam reference—since Rise of the Tomb Raider was released for the PC—was simply a bit of overlooked detritus.

As far as I can see, the references to Steam (and other platform stores) have since been removed, which makes the situation even trickier. Personally, I'd assume that FFXV will eventually make it to the PC, sooner or later, but that's based solely on recent history and the fact that there's no good reason to keep it to consoles, rather that anything Square Enix has said, done, or even hinted at. I've emailed them to ask and I'll let you know if I receive a reply; in the meantime, keep your fingers crossed.

More.
