Thrasher
Wheeee!
Yeah, after a while they all seem to run together. The ones that stand out and I most remember, can be for bad reasons.
Gothic 1
Gothic 3
Did you play Gothic 2, and if so what didnt you like about it? I ask because Gothic 1 was one of my all-time favorite games, but for some reason I just couldnt get into Gothic 2 (even with NotR) even though it is generally thought of as the best of the 3 games.

I just found it dreadfully boring running around the farms for the first chapter, so that by the time I got to Chapter 2 (I think it was Chapter 2 I got to…It was the one where you have to run to the Orc camp)
I believed that G2 vanilla has the reputation to be quite too easy and that NotR fixed it. I played G1 after G2+NotR and G1 is clearly a lot easier (but yeah I played G2+NotR 3 times fully, once with each class, so there's perhaps a problem when after I tried play G1). I know it's not the right order but objectively I doubt G2+NotR is a chore in comparison of G1.
As I never played fully G1 I'm not objective but I have high doubt that it's better to suggest play G1 more than G2+NotR.
There's saurians? I remember more the various rude orcs or special enemies. While G2 is my second favorite computer "game" of all time, I too did not like the last map(chapter). Going to some small island to battle the boss monster was not done in the same vein as the rest of the game. First you had to battle the raptors and then you had a whole bunch of puzzles before your final battle. On my last play through, I stopped after I landed on the isle.
If you played Saurians as a "must kill" duty then I'm not surprised you couldn't enjoyed G2+NotR. Sorry to say you that but as the teacher I throw your work copy to trash, bad job Sir Zaleukos you have to redo all. And please stop comment a game you failed play with eyes opened.
Yeah, the difficulty is a bit over the top unless you really min/max your character. Mages suffer the most, who often end up having to find a bed to sleep in after killing a grand total of.. one monster. Mana cost is so high they can barely afford more than 2-3 spells, and there's no such thing as mana regeneration.
That's pretty much my only annoyance with G2 NotR though, as it's still one of my all time favourites. Probably at the very top with BG2.
Except for that the last island is pretty linear with unavoidable fights with fairly large groups of Saurians.
The thing is, what makes an CRPG most memorable to me doesn't necessarily make it the most fun to play. Coming up with a list that I know is more than just fond memories requires a lot of analysis.
I just want to point out one thing:
Saurians are the green lizard people of Risen 1. In Gothic 2 it's simply the red lizards called Lizardmen or some such thing. The last island has orcs followed by a troll, lizards followed by a dragon, some undead, a maze/puzzle and finally a bunch of Seekers. Roughly.
Yeah, but luckily it isn't very long, and it only accounts for a very small percentage of the overall game.
I don't remember fighting Saurians on that last island though. I recall it being groups of Orc warriors and shamans.
