Battle Brothers - A Playthrough

58 - Monsters
Orcs. This is the company's first encounter with their kind. Sensing that the company has the ranged advantage, Robert ordered a defensive posture with spearwalls and shields raised.

Wilfred scored a hit despite the darkness. Clever of these beasts to engage us at night.
They've also decided to split into two groups, a very curious decision.

02.jpg

A solitary orc warrior attacks our formation from the north. While the other six charges directly at Robert.

03.jpg

The first orcish blow landed and it fractured Robert's arm. Fighting through the pain, Robert ordered a counter-attack.

04.jpg

Instantly, Hakon fired his crossbow bolt, puts it aside and thrusts his pitchfork at the young orc's shoulder. It howls in pain. Rabe, taking the frontline for the first time, swings his Khopesh and scored two good hits that sent the beast onto the edge of death.

05.jpg

Dismissing that fleeing's monster threat, Robert switches his attention towards another Orc Young wielding a giant club. He swung his flail twice and landed both hits to ruin the orc's armor.

06.jpg

Ejnar then thrusts his pike from the back and tore through the orc's guts, nearly killing him!

07.jpg

Elsewhere, Wilfred dispatches a bolt to the oncoming lone orc to the north.

08.jpg

It struck its leg muscles, crippling its movement speed. But the brutes were not done with Robert and one brought its giant ax onto Robert's shield, splitting it into two.

09.jpg

Kurt meanwhile was stunned from a charge, and the creature landed a chopper swing that causes him to bleed.

10.jpg

Robert's situation is precarious, but retreating is not an option. He argued rather than expending his stamina to swap positions, he'd rather use it to bring down his flail on the beast's head again.

11.jpg

The gamble paid off, and the beast's unprotected nose shattered. Baldur on the mean time, swung a good blow with his falchion, exposing another orc's ribs.

12.jpg

13.jpg

The orc threat is over in the north for now. It's time to finish the last four of them. Rabe swings his Khopesh and decapitates the beast.

16.jpg

Robert sustained another hit, but instead of finishing him off, the orc warrior pushes through to get at the back line. That was a fortunate turn of affairs, Robert admitted later.

17.jpg

The battle is nearly won. Just a few more thrusts, and two more remains.

18.jpg

One-eyed Anton struck with his pike and one is left.

19.jpg

It took a lot to bring the last one down. Its heavy armor withstood a lot of blows and the warrior's physique is capable of sustaining many more. At last, exhausted and at breaking point, it collapses.

20.jpg

The company was victorious.

21.jpg

They were lucky there were only seven of those monsters. It took a lot to bring those monsters down. Robert and Kurt took the worst of the blows while the rest of the company is okay.

59 - A Good Day
Robert later reported that the men scavenged several 'unusual' weapons from the field.

01.jpg

02.jpg

Choppers the size of a woodcutter ax, clubs larger than the leg of men and axes that look more like a large piece of sharpened rock attached to a sturdy branch. Having experienced the pain from these weapons, Robert admitted the real threat these weapons poses, but concluded that a human physique would be incapable of withstanding a round of wielding such a weapon.

03.jpg

And so, casting these savage implements of war into their cart, they make their way back to Sommersborg.

07.jpg

Robert admitted he was simply reminded of my habits of purchasing cheap commodities whenever the company could afford some, in hopes of earning a profit later. With the reward money in hand he quickly visited the marketplace.

08.jpg

There, he loaded up on kegs of beer and fresh bread before making his way to Waidhof in search for more work.

09.jpg

Once there, he postponed the search for work and loaded the cart with even more trade goods, filling it to the brim. He even had to sell some items of poor value to make more space and only stopped because he ran out of gold.

10.jpg

Cart fully loaded, he marched the company to the harbor city of Wikstadt, where trade routes remain under the plague of bandits.

11.jpg

And once there he discovered, just as I had taught him, the marketplace is still ripe with easy profits.

12.jpg

The merchants would plead to him to deal with the bandits, but Robert would politely refuse while continuing to unload his goods for sale. Why should he put an end to this state of affairs? The merchants finally gave up, and just pay for the goods they desperately needed.

The company's purse was fat with gold when the transaction was confluded.

13.jpg

He sold almost everything. All of the orcs weapons, unwanted blades and armors on top of the trade goods. It was a good day indeed. With a smile on my lips, I pick up a quill and wrote back a congratulatory letter and an invitation for a celebratory drink sometime next week in Eidsvik. Hopefully, they'd find some spare time to visit.
