Since we're all going to have lots of time on our hands either now or in the near future, here's a thread that could only be made or found interesting by people with lots of time on their hands.
Monty Python's other stuff.
Firstly, just out of curiosity, I've dug through IMDB to find out which computer games the various members of MP have appeared in, with some quite interesting results.
Secondly, I've done a top 11 Pythonesque films for anyone who's worn out all the regular MP stuff and would like to wallow in the genre some more or just see the kinds of good stuff they did together after or alongside MP. Movies ranked purely by how many Pythons were involved in the production and how many are on show generally. Does not include the many cool movies where only one Python is present. Cinema releases only, no TV movies.
So, first up…
A list of video games where one can experience MP'ers.
All of them apart from Graham Chapman:
The Meaning of Life (1997)
Monty Python & the Quest for the Holy Grail (1996)
Both John Cleese & Terry Jones:
Starship Titanic (1998)
Terry Jones:
Blazing Dragons (1996)
Terry Gilliam:
The Unfinished Swan (2012)
Eric Idle:
102 Dalmatians: Puppies to the Rescue (2000)
Discworld II: Missing Presumed…!? (1996)
Discworld (1995)
John Cleese:
Raid: World War II (2017)
The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind (2017)
The Elder Scrolls Online (2014)
Smart As (2012)
Fable III (2010)
Shrek the Third (2007)
Jade Empire (2005)
Time Troopers (2004)
Everything or Nothing (2003)
007 Racing (2000)
The World is Not Enough (2000)
So Cleese is certainly the most gamer friendly MPer, though I'd argue Eric Idle's Rincewind from Discworld is still the most memorably iconic of the lot. Look at all those RPGs in Cleese's library tho!
And now for something completely different:
The top 11 Pythonesque movies:
No.1 - The Wind in the Willows AKA Mr Toad's Wild Ride (1996) 6.3 on IMDB
Has both a writing and directing credit for a Python - Terry Jones
Stars almost the whole caboodle of them - Cleese, Palin, Idle, Jones
No. 2 - Yellowbeard (1983) 6.0
Has a Python writing credit - Graham Chapman
Stars a good three of them - Chapman, Idle, Cleese
No. 3 - Jabberwocky (1977) 6.2
Has both a writing and directing credit for a Python - Terry Gilliam
Stars Palin but also has big bit parts for both Gilliam and Jones
No. 4 - Time Bandits (1981) 7.0
Has both writing and directing credits for multiple Pythons - Gilliam & Palin
Stars both Cleese and Palin
No. 5 - Fierce Creatures (1997) 6.4
Has multiple writing credits for Pythons - Cleese (main) & Jones, Palin (ideas)
Stars both Cleese & Palin
No. 6 - A Fish Called Wanda (1988) 7.5
Has both writing and directing credit for a Python - Cleese
Stars both Cleese and Palin
No. 7 - Splitting Heirs (1993) 5.6
Has a writing credit for a Python - Idle
Stars both Idle and Cleese
No. 8 - Erik the Viking (1989) 6.3
Has a writing and directing credit for a Python - Jones
Has strong bit parts for both Jones and Cleese
No. 9 - The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988) 7.2
Has both a writing and directing credit for a Python - Gilliam
Major supporting cast for Idle
No. 10 - Brazil (1985) 7.9
Has both a writing and directing credit for a Python - Gilliam
Major supporting cast for Palin
No. 11 - Absolutely Anything (2015) 6.0
has both a writing and directing credit for a Python - Jones
Important bit-part for all five (at the time) still living Pythons, voice only
Weirdly enough, I've only seen exactly 5 and a half of these movies, which is, bizarrely, exactly half of them.
