Steam has a sale of the Dreamatrix games (Legends of Dawn Reborn, Wave of Darkness, Spaceforce Rogue Universe HD, Spaceforce Homeworld, Spaceforce Constellations), with discounts varying between 50% and 80%.

Another Steam sale is for the Shadowrun games, you can get all three Shadowrun games (Shadowrun: Returns, Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut, Shadowrun: Hong Kong) for a total cost that is lower than the regular cost of Shadowrun: Hong Kong.

Hard West is also on sale with a discount of 25%.

Serpent in the Staglands is on sale with a 35% discount.

The Fallout franchise is on sale, with the exception of Fallout 4, so it isn't really a franchise sale.

Darkest Dungeon has a discount of 40%.

And a load of other games are on sale as well....

More information.

Well, since everyone else is posting recommendations, I will give a few of my own. :)

Here's three very different games that I rather enjoyed during the course of the year, and that I found to have been a bit ignored by most gamers:

-Satellite Reign (currently 40% off):
http://store.steampowered.com/app/268870/

-Renowned Explorers: International Society (currently 40% off):
http://store.steampowered.com/app/296970/

-Victor Vran (currently 50% off):
http://store.steampowered.com/app/345180/

Also, I would also like to point out the titles from Amplitude Studios are currently 66% to 80% off. Amplitude Studios is responsible from some great titles, such as Dungeon of the Endless (an extremely addictive title, and a personal favourite), Endless Legend (winner of several awards last year) and Endless Space, and besides that, they are an awesome developer who greatly supports their products with numerous free content updates, and who engages the community that plays their games in a very positive and constructive manner, allowing the people who own their games to vote on their website for which features they would like to be added next to their games, or even using those community votes to help create their content (such as character looks/bios/…). It's one of the few developers currently around that I feel treats their customers fairly, and provides awesome post-release support, and for that I feel they deserve my support.
Here's a link to their titles:

I need to add to my backlog like I need punched in the face, but I've had my eye on this title for a while now. If they had gone just a little deeper on the discount, I'd probably have jumped. As it stands, not sure. Is the game as charming as it seems?

I was on the same boat (I have an insane backlog), and I too was waiting for a bigger discount, but I ended up picking it up during the Halloween sale, and I'm glad I did.
Despite my recent lack of time, I already spent over 13 hours with it, and completed 3 or 4 playthroughs. Frankly, it ended up surpassing my expectations. It's indeed an extremely charming title, but also very fun, and quite additive, the kind of game you fire up to play a bit, and end up spending hours with it.

A cool thing is the developers have been updating the game bi-weekly, and will be doing so at least until the end of the year, adding tweaks, minor pieces of content (and they previously added a full expedition as free DLC), so they are providing proper post-launch support for the game.

You may want to wait until next month, for the Steam Winter Sale, to see if it gets a higher discount, especially since you have a big backlog, but do check it out in the future. It ended up being one of my favourite games of the year.

Naughty Lucky...

This isn't the entirety of my backlog, but it covers the highlights, and keep in mind that I'm probably a Day 1 purchase on XCom2 next February.

Not too bad. A couple of games which can be finished within a couple of hours.

Well, and then there is Dragon Age and Divinity: OS. ^^
