I'm not announcing victory, but it's pretty clear I'm going to win.

To save time, just send all your money to the government now. Joe's got big plans and someone's got to pay for it.

I'll cut him a cheque when I get back from the bookies.

That's how we do it here and that is how in my opinion it should be done. We call it taxes and instead of reducing taxes more and more to make the government poorer, so they cannot invest in the country, we keep them around the same level, while shifting the burden depending on the parties in the government. And yes, I have a job that pays well enough and transfer because of that quite some money to the government, which I think is a good idea.
If we finally would make The Netherlands less of a tax haven for companies, it would be even better.

Americans don't realise that all European countries are basically socialist. Taxes are very high in most countries and it pays for the social care, education etc. of most people.

Very few countries move taxed around by much. The main problem is that they never anticipate downturns so debt keeps going up. Governments are like many people and they like to spend a lot but never want to save.

I think the terminology gets lost in translation, as I don't think Europe is socialist in the way Americans think of it - in the same way they have a different conception of "liberal".

I'd say most European countries are social democracies, and all that really means is that they are essentially capitalist democracies with a greater role for the state in taxation and provision for critical services. I think when Americans talk of socialism, they're thinking more of communism - the state controlling the means of production and dictating everything. It's their way of associating reasonable social policy with authoritarianism, while busying themselves with becoming an authoritarian oligarchy.

Admittedly it wasn't a big step for you but you have finally achieved it: Trump's intellectual level.

Four years or rambling old frail Uncle Joe. Yeah he's the man who will unite us.:sarcasm:

Lets be realistic it will be another four years of deadlock politics at best.

1. Republicans look to have maintained Senate Control barely.
2. Democrats maintain the House majority but lost seats. It's power is weakened also.
3. Supreme Court is now in favor of Republicans/Conservatives.

So yeah the future is bright.:jester:

Sidenote: Wonder if this thread will be full of 300+ pages criticizing Biden?

Even if there's political gridlock, at least there won't be a new story each day of lunacy. Biden is winning because he represents normalcy, rather than any individual policy position.

That I can agree on but I doubt it given the state of the modern day media/country.

Anyway can't wait to see who gets chosen to run in 2024 as Biden already said he wont run again. I've seen Trump Jr or Tucker Carlson for Republicans named already.

They had 53 seats before, will most likely have 52 now. Not much change really. Considering that you need 60+ votes to pass legislation, and the filibuster isn't going anywhere as long as the Republicans are still in control, 52 seats is rock solid.

2. Democrats maintain the House majority but lost seats. It's power is weakened also.
Nancy Pelosi may well be gone as speaker. Last time around, 2 years ago, a handful of Democrats refused to vote for her as speaker under any circumstances. She ended up cutting some deals and was able to muster up barely enough votes (220) to stay speaker. You need 218 votes normally, and the Democrats just lost about 10 House seats. So there's a good chance we'll see a new speaker. Some are saying it may be Hakeem Jeffries.

3. Supreme Court is now in favor of Republicans/Conservatives.

Future-wise...in 2024, we get the Trump vs Biden rematch. Get ready for that race to fire up roughly 2 years from now.
