BETHESDA SOFTWORKS ANNOUNCES
WOLFENSTEIN: THE OLD BLOOD

Standalone Prequel to the Award-Winning Game
Wolfenstein: The New Order Available May 5, 2015

March 4, 2015 (Rockville, MD) - Bethesda Softworks, a ZeniMax Media company, today announced Wolfenstein®: The Old Blood™, the standalone prequel to the critically-acclaimed first-person action-adventure shooter, Wolfenstein®: The New Order™. In development at MachineGames, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood will be available digitally for $19.99 on May 5, 2015 for Xbox One®, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®4 system, and PC.

The year is 1946 and the Nazis are on the brink of winning World War II. In an effort to turn the tide in the Allies’ favor, B.J. Blazkowicz must embark on an epic, two-part mission deep within Bavaria. Part one of Wolfenstein: The Old Blood - Rudi ger and the Den of Wolves - pits BJ Blazkowicz against a maniacal prison warden as he breaks into Castle Wolfenstein in an attempt to steal the coordinates to General Deathshead’s compound. In part two – The Dark Secrets of Helga Von Schabbs – our hero's search for the coordinates leads him to the city of Wulfburg where an obsessed Nazi archaeologist is exhuming mysterious artifacts that threaten to unleash a dark and ancient power.
“Diving back into the world of Wolfenstein has really been fun for us,” said Jerk Gustafsson, executive producer at MachineGames. “We’ve enjoyed exploring the events leading up to The New Order. We think fans will really enjoy the story, all the action and, of course, jumping back into the combat with new weapons.”

Wolfenstein: The New Order, released in May 2014, enjoyed worldwide critical and commercial success with over 75 Game of the Year awards, and was hailed by The New York Times as “one of the very best releases of the year.”

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is rated M for mature by the ESRB. For more information on Wolfenstein: The Old Blood visit: www.wolfenstein.com.

It sounds decent enough, and it's Wolfenstein, so I'll be getting it.

I'm glad it's a prequel. I enjoyed TNO, but I was tired of the pseudo-1960's setting by the end. I'm looking forward to a more traditional Wolfenstein setting.

I'll probably go with 40 GB. Still with those mega textures you never know. I'm still waiting on Fallout 4, and information it will be using the id Tech 6 engine.

I can already see the required 100GB needed play that game.

Eurogamer posted a new gameplay trailer from Pax East this week.

Here's about 20 minutes of Wolfenstein: The Old Blood gameplay from today's PAX East livestream, with commentary from the devs.

Just a reminder Wolfenstein: The Old Blood will be released next month.
The Bethesda Blog confirms the previously announced release date for Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, saying Machine Games' upcoming prequel to Wolfenstein: The New Order will come on May 5th. They don't say anything else, but offer a vine to celebrate the occasion, creepily suited to the occult-themed military shooter.

I like that they're bringing the occult theme back. I have a feeling that this is going to be more of a classic Wolfenstein game than TNO was, and that's a good thing.

I liked TNO, though I've yet to finish it. I stopped around 10 hours into it. Got sidetracked.

Maybe I'll replay it before this one arrives.

Only played about an hour and lost interest. This one isn't for me.

Sorry I meant an hour of the first one.

Based on that I'm not interested in this one.:)

@sakichop - Out of curiosity, did you ever play any of the older Wolfenstein games like Return to Castle Wolfenstein or 2009's Wolfenstein? If so, did you enjoy them?

I think (and hope) The Old Blood is going to be closer to the older titles than to TNO in terms of the setting and atmosphere.

I did and yes the atmosphere was much better in those games. My favorite wolfenstien was the first one( I think) with the SS and you had to plant a bomb and blow up hitler and then escape, it was 2D. The gameplay was inferior to what we have now of course but I just remember it being really fun.

I might give the first game another try at some point if it does get better as Dart says.

1 hour isn't really a fair sample size but I think I was distracted by another game but I can't remember what right now.

If the next game is more like the other wolfenstien sites might give it a look. We'll see.

I played the first two Wolfenstein (3D and Return to) and I like what I see in this trailer. I still have to play the 2014 game but I was waiting for a sale on this one.

Yeah, the series got its start on the Commodore 64, or maybe it was the Apple 2. I just remember that a cousin of mine had the first two games on his Commodore.
