Friends of Mineral Town - Review @ PC Mag

by Hiddenx, 2020-07-22 17:35:07

PC Mag has reviewed the farming-sim/RPG Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town:

Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town (for PC)

Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is a farming simulator/RPG hybrid that looks and plays much like the classic Harvest Moon games. That's because it is Harvest Moon. A licensing spat between publishers forced a title change in 2014, but the game's heart and soul—ranching in a quaint town filled with quirky characters—remains the same. In fact, Friends of Mineral Town is a remake of the series' first GameBoy Advance entry, one that boasts new graphics and a remastered soundtrack. The polygonal visuals are a bit bland, and the controls are a touch clunky, but the PC game is wholesome, farm-sim fun.

Pros

  • Addictive gameplay
  • Many entertaining tasks and goals
  • Charming artwork and music
  • Enjoyable relationship-building system

Cons

  • Somewhat clunky controls
  • Lackluster character models

Bottom Line
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town puts a contemporary spin on a charming farm-sim that sees you plant crops, raise livestock, and start a family. The controls and character models could use additional work, but this leisurely game is incredibly addicting.

Score: 4/5
