The Deutscher Computerspielepreis is a new award created by the industry, backed by the German government and parlament, and supported by the Bavarian government. The country was represented by the secretary of culture, Bernd Neumann, the Free State of Bavaria by governor Horst Seehofer.
Everybody who knows how critical games are seen in Germany can estimate the political and social importance such an award has.
Drakensang: The Dark Eye won the main award, Best German Game. The award comes with a €150,000 purse.
