Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes - Review @ Noisy Pixel

Early reviews aren't stellar, so we'll see when it releases for us plebs.

I'll get it for sure and hope for the best.

I knew this was a JRPG, but despite that I was mildly interested for awhile. I think it's too cartoony for me though.

I am huge Suikoden fan. I have played all games, some of them several times, so I was really looking forward to this game. But apparently the localization is horrible.
Many of the lines are completely different from the original writing and voice in Japanese, changing not only the meaning but the tone and personality of the characters.

Some examples:
Assuming a Golem's Gender

Here is a side by side comparison of several scenes between the English and Japanese version

One of the localizers for this game openly stating in the past to hunt down and remove any gendered language they find with prejudice

The German, French and Spanish localization appear to have used the English translation as the master script.

PC review scores seem to be all over the place, ranging from 95/100 to 60/100.
Was looking forward to play this eventually and most probably still will, one day.

The reviews are averaging out to around 8/10, which is reasonable. I'm around 15 hours in (yeah, I backed it) and it's a fun jrpg that's definitely in the vein of the old school suikoden games. While that makes for an overall enjoyable game it does mean it shares some of the design limitations of old school jrpgs such as limited inventory spaces forcing you to choose what to take with you, and fast travel not being unlocked for a while.

Honestly I'm pretty impressed with what they've done with their kickstarter money compared to other similarly funded games I've played. They obviously had further funding to dip into.

Don't buy it on Switch though, it apparently runs like an old dog on that. Any other platform is fine. I'm playing it on GoG, no issues found so far.

Good to hear the game is fun to play. Bad news Switch version is bad as it is my prefered platform for this type of games.

Well, there's always the chance they'll patch the performance. We'll have to wait and see. I just wouldn't buy the Switch version right now if you have any other platform available until it's confirmed that a fix is done. It is apparently playable, just notably slower to load anything on the Switch.
