Good Old Games - Baldur's Gate 2 Released

Aren't you talking about Bard's Tale? :D (And shouldn't they be 5.25 disks, then?) My copy of Baldur's Gate came on 5 CDs…

You are right. I got confused. On the other hand, I could not get Baldur's Gate I or II to load on Windows 7.
So I downloaded them both and I just started Baldur's Gate I and it runs fine and looks good. To bad they couldn't get the TuTu version to load. I never could get that to run.
20 bucks for many hours of replay is not bad

WHAT????

Sorry then I'm not buying this until either Tutu catches up or they make it compatible. I wasn't going to buy this for awhile in any case. Too many games as it is right now,

You need BG1 and 2.

Or at least that's what I remember. Getting a little fuzzy on the details with the mods with BG. I remember I used Tutu for BG1, but I needed to install BG 2 as well. I believe the whole point of that mod was to make it so you could use the upgraded elements in BG 2 in BG1. Like I had to use it to play in BG1 the best character class ever invented for the D&D world……WILD MAGES!!! I miss those guys :(

But there are also mods for BG2 for TuTu….or at least that's what I sorta remember. It's been awhile since I replayed BG2. Come to think of it it has been at least 5 years…..maybe I will buy this thing soon and just play it vanilla. I only needed Tutu to get Wild Mages into BG1 and a few of the NPC mods were cool, but not a must.

Ah...right. Well I never understood the "I can't play BG1 without Tutu!" thing. I actually prefer the way BG1 is by itself.

BG 2 is the greatest CRPG ever made.

Fact.

BG1 doesn't support high resolution and it doesn't have all the classes and stuff from the second game.

It's a waste to play it vanilla, when you can get all the goodies of the improved engine.

Yes, exactly there are NO WILD MAGES !!!!! :p

Without them the world is a sadder place :(

Ok, think it's time to hit the hay. Getting silly again. See ya guys next time.

I don't care about the classes, but I did like having access to the larger resolutions and IIRC, the engine for BG2 was tweaked to run faster as well.

People on the GoG boards were talking like they were using TuTu. Another mod to unlock and fix up some of the locked off parts of BG2 sounded interesting, too.

Playing at a higher resolution makes little difference in that game. You can't go much higher than default anyways, due to the way it scales.

I enjoy the differences between the 2 games. It makes it refeshing for me when I transition between them. The only thing that would entice me to use TuTu is if I wanted to start the saga with one of the specialized character kits from BG2.

Yes, with the TuTu/Widescreen combo you can play at any resolution you want and it scales perfectly. It looks MUCH better at high resolutions ;)

The specialised character kits (and other D&D options) is a very strong reason to use the package.

But then, I'm very much a big fan of more customisation options - and I love my Kensai. Also, I plan to dual class from Kensai to Mage - and I think it would be cool to carry such a character forth throughout both games.

Then there's the improved pathing and what not. Nothing is worse than navigating that end-game labyrinth in BG1 with BG1-pathing. OUCH!

But, to each his own.

To me there was a big difference between being able to use a max of 800x600 (or is it 640 x 480? can't remember) and using 1280 x 1024.

Hmm, the resolution difference has no significant impact to me. The BG series is certainly not something I would play for the graphics anyways. I don't even notice it after a few minutes.

I also never had a problem with the pathfinding in either game.

There's a certain charm to the original BG that many prefer. Also, if I'm doing a full run of all the games, I don't want to look at the same style for the entire trilogy, considering how lengthy it is. The change of going from one to the next is something I enjoy, and keeps it fresh for me.

As I said, the only reason I would do it is for a BG2 character kit, but yes, to each his own. :)

Very true! It's funny, I prefer to have the same style through out! I find it less distracting.
