The Totally NEW Team Corwin Thread

Thanks for reminding me.
Well, I have been sleeping quite a lot this weekend. Sometimes it still aches, but not too often.
I still have to try to eat on my left side of the jaw, and only rather soft meals.
This week, and then I'll be in Berlin for 2 weeks. I might be there for May, 10th , though. But, on the other hand ... My plan was to go there on Saturday. *sigh*

As it turns out now, the new plans are to go on vacation on Sunday, which means that I'm there the next session. But not 17. and 24th, as far as I can see it. Nit art all on the 17th, and the 24th depends on when I'll be going on, but very unlikely that I'll be there at that date, then.
Again, we have a rule where I work that once in a year we must take a block of 2 weeks for vacation (or whatever).

I have bowed to pressure and TR'd into a FvS which is something I have never played before, so I shall be looking for build assistance. Currently I have begun to use the Beacon of Hope tree, but I'm open to suggestions!!

It is a sign of the Apocalypse!

Are you working as a caster, or melee? What race did you pick? Did you go for Wisdom or Charisma as your primary casting stat?

Beacon of Hope is the healing tree, Angel of Vengeance the caster tree, and War Soul the melee tree, though you should probably pick up some of the low hanging fruit there for defensive boosts. There's some extra hitpoints there in tier 1, and some PRR in T2. War Soul also gives Light and Fire Spell Power on it's cores, which is useful for a caster.

As a caster, your primary offensive spells will be Light (Sunbolt, Searing Light), Force (Blade Barrier and Cometfall), and Fire (Firestorm which you've seen the effectiveness of from my Fire Cleric, Flamestrike). Most spells are Evocation, thus you want the Evocation Spell Focus feats. Otherwise it's like a Wizard or Sorc; you want Maximize, Empower, Quicken (especially for Mass Heal and Blade Barrier).

If I was building a caster FvS, I'd go down Angel of Vengeance, picking up some of War Soul for the extra spell power in the cores and the defensive buffs in the tree itself. I'd probably try to reach the Level 12 core, which grants a perm Blur, Blur as a spell, and ups the Fire/Light spell power gained to 20. May even go all the way to the next core, picking up Haste as a spell and some more spell power.

Melee wise, you're going up War Soul, and hitting Smite Foe, Ameliorating Strike, and Smite Weakness for the AoE Heal and Vulnerability effects. Divine Power is a requirement, as is Haste Boost.

I'd give you 2 main options: a light-based evoker or a feydark caster. You'll have enough "side" action to be a solid healer regardless. Both toons will be good contributors and very survivable. The light blaster is much simpler and also well-suited to getting by on minimal hotbars. The feydark caster is actually quite fun and very useful to the party but involves a little more complexity which you might or might not be interested in.

The "standard approach" of the feydark is to throw a very good greater color spray to stun the mobs, then toss a knife fan take a big bite out of them, then move in with imaginary short swords and mop up. Your party will appreciate the color spray and you still get to take an active role in the slaughter.

The light blaster is going to be much simpler- walk up, spam a few incredibly strong light spells, and try not to get monster dust on your shoes as you move to the next mob. Rinse and repeat.

edit- I've got Word files of both builds, but they don't want to convert to text properly for some reason. I don't have time to figure it out right now but I can make them available later if you wish.

I didn't remember, but apparently I threw some feydark into my most recent light blaster. The color spray probably wasn't tremendously effective without the right boosts, but it was available.

Formatting above isn't great but should be good enough to get the idea.

The blaster build in particular is a little older so they might have tweaked the names of an enhancement here or there but the basic structure should still be valid.

Az makes some very good points about adding survivability via warsoul enhancements. That would probably be a better approach to the blaster than the side of feydark I used.

Thanks, I'll likely keep the Beacon ones I've already taken since Good Hope is useful but If I'm not going to be needed as primarily a healer then I'll begin to develop the Angel tree with a little melee thrown in for balance.

Let's see; I've done all of Korthos except Misery, I've done all the explorers and 200 slayers at the Keep, plus the 3 first quests on the LHS; I've done all the explorers and 100 slayers in the CH and a couple of Harbor quests and I still don't have even 1 rank into level 3!!!! That doesn't leave much left available!!

As a third lifer, you're probably going to have to run all of Borderlands as well; it's L1 content after all, and you're pushing to using it. Might even need the big XP of Misery's Peak.

I used XP Stones to get to 3, and All of Korthos and All of Borderlands just got me into 4 by a rank. It's not enough by itself I think unless you do Misery and Chaos as well, which are the first Level 2 quests.

Yep, particularly since he's not getting the VIP bonus on any of it. Misery is worth a rank all by itself, even if you're already lvl3.

Well, after doing all the Keep quests, I finally gave in and did Misery on Hard which got me to level 4. I still don't like that quest, but at least I made level. Not overly thrilled with the class so far, but I will persevere to level 20!!
