IBM and GE have been good at reinventing themselves. HP, not so much, but they are still around.
As long as they get revenue they will continue to do well. Their formula with sports games is very effective and they were able to change with the times (PC to console).
The jury is out on their move to social gaming, but their move into tablets has been terrible. Their market for Scrabble has been stolen right out from under them with Words with Friends.

Side note, I worked with a gal who used to work with EA. They treated certain programmers at the company like rock stars and she had a bunch of posters of games signed by them prominently displayed around her cubicle.
The obvious question floated around the office, if they were so great, why wasn't she still working there? Anyway, we all knew the answer: she was nuts.
Just before she was fired she bought tickets for her kids to go to Hawaii. Unfortunately, she only had the money to send them one way.
