Nathan O'Grady posted his review of Valkyria Chronicles on the Invision Game Community. He gave the game a final score of 5/5, and calls the game a masterpiece.

Valkyria Chonicles is the master of bringing together the normally seperate dimensions of the gaming world. It combines strategy and role-playing into a seamlessly enjoyable hybrid. It creates a fantastic storyline and maintains strong gameplay alongside it, showing little sacrifice on either side of this coin. It even opens up the usually closed-off arena of manga-style titles to an audience who can appreciate it whether this is usually their thing or not. In all, Valkyria Chronicles is a great choice for the all-round gamer, and well worth picking up with some of your Christmas pocket money this year!

It's a great hybrid with good roleplaying, strategy and story elements.
You can compare it with Jagged Alliance 2 and XCom.
This one is made for fans of tactical combat!

Repeating myself but just have to.
Valkyria Chronicles is not a masterpiece nor it deserves 5/5 or 10/10. But is a musthave/mustplay game. It's a great material to compare other games with and is friendly to anyone who didn't see or play TB RPG before. A perfect introduction to the genre.

It's one of those things you'll be sorry if you die before try.

It successfully mashes up the genres of strategy and role-play…
Ummm, no it doesn't. There's no role play in here. None at all! The characters have a hidden characteristic that shows up with a little gameplay but you don't have any choice at all in how any character develops. You've got some choice in how weapons develop but, honestly, it isn't much.

This is a great game for sure but it's got about as many RPG elements as StarCraft. I couldn't even call it a hybrid RPG.

Noone said it's deep oldschool cRPG. With c as a very important letter. :)
And it's totally different from Starcraft. Probably because it's not just a clone of another game.
