Not sure what to make of this "weapon degradation bug". I've heard it exists and is tied to the game being 60fps when it should be 30, BUT I started playing on xbox360 and then later moved to PC and while weapons do wear out a lot faster than DKS1 I can't say I really noticed any difference between the platforms.
That´s probably because, AFAIK, the degradation rate is actually exactly the same on all platforms for the most common actions (hitting enemies).
The difference only takes place when hitting dead bodies (or bodies vanishing upon death) and friendlies, which generally causes more degradation than usual - probably a way to punish players for superfluous moves and ganging upon a single enemy.
Since it´s not particularly intuitive, I´d prefer if there was some in-game explanation for it, because as it is it´s perhaps a bit too sneaky for its own good.
There are some moves where it may occur more commonly on a killing blow - in particular pancaking because a weapon spends some time within a body afterwards.
Personally I wouldn´t be surprised if the 60 fps degradation rate is the intentional one - it´s pretty obvious the mechanics is supposed to be notably bigger deal than in DS1 (weapon degradation bar in UI, rings slowing degradation or items changing looks when broken).
I liked the weapons wearing out faster, personally.
Me as well, it encourages using/trying out more weapons and it doesn´t come with the hassle of having to maintain items one by one since resting at bonfires returns everything to full automatically, therefore is a fun feature in my book.
If dx11 is going to be $10-15 I'm sure it will be worth it.
Yeah, that´s about the price I think it should be sold at to people who already own the game with DLCs.
From what I´ve seen so far, the enemy changes seem mostly cool - I really dig that they seem to have included new invaders with AI á la DLCs (in addition to the Forlorn dude) and I really like touches like a lone Syan knight in FoFG, hollow soldiers attacking the giant-trees or Heide knights´ reallocation.
That said, I´m a bit wary of some other potential changes, mainly the supposed increase enemy count - if it´s done sensibly at a select few places then I´m all for it, but in some of the videos it seems like player was taking less damage than usual, leading me to suspect they may have increased enemy count across the board and balanced it by making the opposition less hard-hitting, which is not the kind of mix I´d be particularly fond of. For that reason I´m, atm, sort of glad the changes are exclusive to the new editions.
Also, personally I think they´ve made the various versions thing way too confusing - particularly in naming the old-gen "GotY" versions the same as the current-gen editions when the latter come with enhancements not available in the former.
Looking forward to the new iteration, at any rate.
