I've been considering replaying the Mass Effect series, but the price of Bioware Points keeps putting me off.
I have two competing thought processes clashing whenever I think of replaying Mass Effect.
I'm a completionist who likes to play game series in order, and want to complete all missions available, but I'm also obsessed with getting value for money.
I replayed Mass Effect 1 before playing 2 (including my first playthrough of Bring Down the Sky) and played both games again just before the third came out.
But whenever I think of playing the series again I look at the prices to 'complete' the game with story DLC and decide to play something else instead.
Basically, to complete the Mass Effect Trilogy, I'd have to pay $144, which is the same cost of buying four copies of all three games and still having $24 left over, and the games, besides decreasing in price over time, are also often on sale while the DLC is still at release price and rarely if ever seems to be on sale.
So for the past five years I've been waiting for something that may never happen, and this is certainly a big part of the reason I haven't bought either Dragon Age Inquisition or Mass Effect Andromeda.
It would not surprise me if, instead of discounting and charging normal money for the DLC or bringing out a complete edition, they just let them die with no possibility of buying them – much like Neverwinter Nights Premium Modules
I suspect I'm the only one weird enough to continually delay replaying a game or playing a sequel because I refuse to either overspend on or ignore extra missions, but I thought my insanity was worth sharing.

I've had a look at the story DLC prices (I don't give a stuff about extra weapons or armor)
Kasumi – Stolen Memory 560 Bioware points
Overlord – 560 Bioware points
Lair of the Shadow Broker 800 Bioware points
Arrival 560 Bioware points
Mass Effect 2 total: 2,480 Bioware points
From Ashes 800 Bioware points
Leviathan 800 Bioware points
Omega 1200 Bioware points
Citadel 1200 Bioware points
Mass Effect 3 total: 4,000 Bioware points
Mass Effect total: 6,480 Bioware points
According to Origin, 1600 points is 32$. Not sure if that's Australian dollars or US dollars. Either way, let's do the maths….
If I buy 6,400 points that will cost $128.
That leaves me 80 points shy for what I want… sigh…I can also buy 800 points for $16
Now, I can buy all three Mass Effect games for $30 total, but would need to spend $144 for DLC.
When I think of how many full games I can buy for $144, it's a lot.
As a bonus I thought I'd work out what I'd need to complete Dragon Age,…
Dragon Age (Because if I was buying Bioware points I'd get all the DLC for this series as well)
I already own Dragon Age Ultimate Edition which I bought using real human money, so don't need any points here
Seems there's only 2 story DLC for this game: Mark of the Assassin and Legacy at 800 Points each, so $32 to complete Dragon Age II.
